...and change the lighting back to the way it looked at E3
I'd favour that indeed.

They still have time to add it back in, don't they?
I mean Nintendo has to read these forums to know that we're disappointed that the lighting was changed, right?
Maybe because it messes up in the larger shrinesWhy would they change it in the first place?!? It looks worse...
GAF I was at the Switch Fan Event in Munich this week. You can even see me several times in the background in this official video:
https://youtu.be/XzSr4Nmk_OM
Right after the beginning I'm right behind Aounuma, the guy in the white shirt
Now the important part:
I've played the demo of Zelda twice there and was baffled by it's weak graphics. 30fps, often less, framedrops, low textures, low resolution, no AA etc.
Now I'm watching the video linked above where they say they play the final version with Aounuma on this particular Switch while the other devices are running the old demo.
In this video to me it looks like stable 60fps, much better resolution, lightning, textures and slightly more details like grass and stones compared to the demo I've played twice
What do you guys think about it?
I would like to know if the lighting, if it is actually changed for the worse on the Switch, could that be a result of not enough time working on the port? We're not talking about adding effects to the Switch game, but rather taking them away, giving the WiI U a visual advantage in some instances...
That would not be a good look for Nintendo.
Why would they change it in the first place?!? It looks worse...
Yeah, already I saw a demo where they got summarily wrecked with one laser beam just for going a little bit too close. I think this was near the horse stable that is left of you leaving the plateau for the first time.
My theory about the 5 pillars is that 1 is linked to clearing some amount of shrines and the 4 are related to (and includes the insides of, but not that the dungeons are entirely the inside of) the monsters. Not super original or thought provoking but it seems to be the likely path. As much as I'd love 5 dungeons of course.

I'm still hopeful that it is just a bug as it doesn't make sense. We know there is still dynamic lighting in the open world for the most part. The beam from the Guardians was posted clearly showing that's still in full effect. I believe the glow from the Rune bombs still illuminates Link when outside.
But interiors for whatever reason the gamma got jacked up super high and things like chests and panels don't cast light on Link anymore and lights in general don't have that same bloom and brilliance to them.
The biggest tell that it might be a bug is that one little patch of light inside the Shrine of Resurrection that still shows up when the doors open. It's like they disabled certain surfaces from being affected by light or turned off certain light sources from affecting specific objects. It's odd.
This sounds like an issue with the specular map of the ground material then. Which does indeed seem like a bug.
Various other issues in the opening cave wouldn't be affected by that though, so if this is the result of a bug it's a much deeper bug. It would make more sense if it just is nowhere near optimized yet (on this particular version). Though the fact that it's present on the "final" retail version makes me doubt this. Day 1 patch incoming?
this is by far my favorite. this kid's vibe is a delight.

I hope the WiiU version ends up ok.
My Switch purchase has been moved to late May, but I can't wait for Zelda.
Will be fun to play an upgraded version later to compare.
Did anyone find out why you need 3 GB of free internal space for the WiiU version ? Is it like Xenoblade X and you'll need to install data to improve the loading times ?
Dual audio does not seem to be an option in the game. (Credits to BY2K.)

I have no clue. Maybe it was something that didn't work right after they ported it. I don't know how it works. I just know Aonuma said it was last spring when they decided to make BotW for the switch as well.

E3 was the WiiU version.
They ported the Wii U code and enhanced certain things - why would they change the lighting I wonder?
It's entirely possible (and quite likely, really) that the different lighting isn't due to the game being ported to the Switch. It's likely an artistic decision that now applies to both versions.
What. So the Japanese dub is on the cart, but they just didn't add a feature to chose the dub separately from the text language? That would be so backwards.
Probably old but apparently you can't change Link's character name this time around and instead he's specifically "Link"
Nintendo may be ditching that whole link to the player concept and building more on Links character.

The lighting could also be a change made in order to improve performance in other areas of the game ...

So wait, dual languages are in the game - as in coded into it, but you have to change the regional settings of the system just to to hear it?!?
I see why Nintendo decided to call it the Switch...

Yeah. Wouldn't surprise me.
It's not like it's that big of a deal - but it's hard nowadays to get excited about a game's reveal when downgrades are such a thing...
N kind of shot themselves in the foot. I was considering picking up a Nintendo Bitch day one but the comparisons show the Wii U version as being just as good so I'll go with that.
Gonna save myself $400 (until we get a 3DS style price drop at least).

Nah it's easy to get excited. I'm excited right now. Let's wrestle.
I wanna hear the soundtrack more then actually play the game.
You know what I would like to see? NPC's fighting monsters. You'd be wandering the world and you could come across a skirmish between some monsters and friendly npc's. That would be dope and really make the world feel alive.
