New Zelda: Breath of the Wild screenshots and closer look at full Hyrule map

These comparisons paint a favourable comparison for the Switch version. Outside the colour tint, reflections and draw distance are the most obvious differences.

However there were some recent shots comparing the e3 Wii U build against the Switch, and the lighting, lightmaps/shadows looked nicer on the Wii U. I still havent absolutely made up my mind yet...

E3 build vs Switch retail (or "near" retail), just like the screenshots in this thread. Those Wii U pics have been on the internet for seven months. It's entirely possible the lighting has been changed for both versions of the game.

I stole that first set of comparison images, scaled the WIiU to match Switch's resolution so that I could make a single-image comparison for easier viewing.

Ever since I was a little kid with an N64 and Ocarina of Time, I have wanted a Zelda game that was massive an expansive to the point where you could get lost in it. After all these years, Nintendo may have finally made the Zelda game I have always dreamed of...

Man, that is a pretty massive difference in quality, but again, we're comparing near-final Switch screens to Wii U shots from seven months ago.

Wonder why the images are 1500x844...? Seems like a weird res.

I was wondering the same... my best guess is that it's actually 844p at the version being demoed and they were either poorly rounding to 900 or they have it up to 900 in the final version but not the one at the presentation.

Anyone else annoyed that Nintendo's reusing the names of towns/areas like Eldin, Faron, and Lanryu? We've got like 3 games already with those places. What the hell?

we've got more games with "Hyrule" and that's not a problem

Totally different, as those are Zelda staples.

Though, I will say that Nintendo should start changing the names for those locales too.

fuck that, the names you're complaining about are being made into staples through reuse and that's fine

The most important difference between the Wii U and Switch is for me clearly the lighting model. I think that's the reason for the color hue in the Wii U, so that you notice less it's basically all ambient lighting.

Switch screens look GORGEOUS on my iPhone 6S Plus. The smaller Swirth screen will make it look like painting in motion in my hands. I'm prepared to be floored.

I'm going to have to get a Switch, aren't I? The temptation of taking this game with me anywhere is too strong.

There aren't many differences graphically between both versions, but the game looks awesome. The Wii U version is enough for me.

Cannot wait!

As beautiful as it looks, I still would have vastly preferred a more realistic look like the initial Wii U tech demo.

I really like this style too but think BOTW is better. I think what I really like about the tech demo is how clean it looks due to the high IQ. I wish BOTW had a similar amount of IQ.

It isn't about just the graphics tho. We will see how the performance and frame rate differ between the two. I feel like that will be the major reason to get the Switch version over the Wii U.

A fully explorable open world game with the visual style and IQ of that tech demo would not be feasible on WiiU, also I always thought it looked too clean and sterile. Character models with less emotive potential

Yes, what a boring art direction that tech demo had. Even Aonuma said that this was what we were gonna get if they had to make a Zelda game in a short amount of time.

Speaking of conventions, I do hope we don't see too many (any?) robots and mole people. They were kind of dumb to be honest. Also Blooper as a boss.

Also give us proper Ganon, not Demise.

For me the BoTW art style is perfect. It's visually striking, has its own character and is timeless. Too bad the hardware is not good enough to get rid of some rough edges.

At the hands on event the rep told me the map just for the demo area was the size of the entire TP map.

I cannot fu king wait for my switch and this game

The game should look great in handheld mode but blown up in docked mode...I'll reserve judgement until release, I guess.

Artstyle is amazing, obviously.

the game world and style really reminds me of looking at the designs and art of the instruction manual from the NES version.

As a long time Zelda diehard, I'm really interested to see where this one goes. Havent seen anything outside of the grassy hills so far so I'm curious to see what actual dungeons and other areas of Hyrule will look like.

So there are five pillars around Hyrule Castle after all. I guess that might throw a wrench in the divine beast connection theory, unless there's a secret fifth one out there somewhere.

Do we know if Link can dive underwater?
