White House Press Briefing: Facts are demoralizing

You have to realize that voters have short memories. Trump can't blame Obama or Clinton in 2 or 4 years, especially when Republicans control all 3 branches. Obama got blamed for the economy in 2010, when he was trying his hardest to fix what happened on Bush's watch. He was blamed for TARP which was a Bush initiative. Trump can complain all he wants or say falsehoods too. But if he doesn't deliver or fucks up like Bush on Katrina, voters aren't going to care what he says. He has to produce results that they care about. Deporting people might make some happy for a day, but not having health insurance will piss more off for years. And he has to do all this by getting the Republican Congress to go along. Who here thinks that they will let Medicare barter for discount drugs? Not me. What is going to be interesting is when Trump fights with Congress or when Congress won't carry his water anymore. This will be like Jimmy Carter who had different ideas on what it meant to be a Democrat compared to Congress in 1974. And he had 61 senators to work with.

Helpful graphic for those trying to claim Spicer's pic proves media lied about size of inauguration crowd. (L, top in my post: Media, R, bottom in my post: Spicer)
But I can't see the hundreds of thousands of people waiting outside the blockades, unable to get in. That was also 3 hours before he started his speech, crazy that they made everyone wait so long in the area right around the podium too.

That's me being facetious, by the way, before people start yelling at me.

HBO should bring back The Newsroom. This is great material for the show

People gave Sorkin shit for how overdramatized the show (and his writing in general) was.

Look at us now. This season would have been the Empire Strikes Back of fast-talking and emotional beats backed by The Who.

I imagine a scenario which would actually break the hold he has over some of the populace will occur when he announces at a press conference that he's made America great again and brought back everyone's jobs and saved the blue collar worker, while some actual blue collar worker is watching him on TV, having lost his health insurance and not had his manufacturing job brought back at all, and says "Wait, no you haven't, what about me?".

It's not gonna be some talk about Russia or his pettiness or any of those things, it'll be when it actually personally affects these rural voters that they turn on him.

Precisely this.

When it's a year or so into his term and the people who voted him in on all his promises are seeing nothing beneficial they'll HOPEFULLY revolt.

He'll give them a scapegoat to vilify and there's plenty of options given how much stuff they hate.

China, Globalists, Establishment, Mexicans, Muslims, whatever.

Yep, no shortage of scapegoats. They'll swallow it, too. They always do. That's the go-to strategy when you can't blame Hillary or Obama any more. There's always a scapegoat.

WORST PERIOD GENERATION PERIOD EVER PERIOD

Probably the only line I disagreed with in that scene. Baby boomers are orders of magnitude worse both in terms of attitude and harmful legislation.

For what it's worth that whole first season was the main character learning why he was wrong, or at least mostly so. This scene right towards the end of the season finale delivers his realization in two words:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5bqAVUkUgw

Sorkin played everyone with that thing in the first episode, cuz it feels so good to be righteous, like Sorkin often does, but he was undercutting that self-righteousness.

They're talking about Trump lying on the Japanese morning news

Shit is surreal

I was literally just about to post this. I'm browsing through three morning news shows while preparing to head out and all of them are talking about Trump lying, the bad turnout, white nationalism and the Women's march.

Just in case people are curious how other countries are reacting or if they just believe Trump

International media is ALL over Trump's shenanigans.

He may be able to swindle the US media by holding their precious White House access over their heads but the foreign press smells blood and will embolden his detractors.

They are talking about this in Japan? How are people reacting? Is it a professional "wtf is going on America???" basically?

Best part is that this is BURNING HIM ALIVE.

Like, genuine suffering. The kind you or I might feel if a relative was dying. He feels about ratings and his self image being validated.

these guys are going to be out of a job soon because reality is catching up to anything they can dream up

I mean, maybe they can roll with this? I mean, with Onion-tier news getting ignored in favor of dresses by CNN, maybe the Onion could become our nation's most hard-hitting news outlet by year's end.

Excellent. I'm glad people are aware of this & calling it out abroad, as well. If the Trump administration hopes to go full-1984 to sate his ego, everyone needs to point it out & prevent it from becoming accepted. And Japanese News viewers are far more likely to accept the truth than Fox News viewers (And, in fact, many news viewers worldwide).
