New NA Nintendo stuff (Pikachu N3DS XL, Selects games, MS Superstars Mar 24rd)

Everyone is often so quick to write the 3DS off as finished, and then Nintendo goes an announces more reason to buy one.

It makes sense. Switch is designed a home console that's portable, though not exactly ideal as a dedicated handheld.

They also have some RPG in the works (Oasis something? name escapes me) and Dragon Quest XI is being made for it as well.

Long live the 3D king!

Wow traitor 😡

Hmmm, still no details on that Pikmin spin off... Hope it's not going through some development hell. Or maybe they are taking their time to polish this one so they don't pull another Metroid Prime Federation Force.

Nice to have a XL with the proper SNES buttons.

Oh my god I want this so bad.

Dream Team has been more than full price new for some time. I'll get both Nintendo Selects eventually.

New Amiibo cards are cool. Will only buy one packet unless they are on clearance. Hopefully they point to a multi-sport game eventually on Switch. No need to rush as I won't have enough controllers for four player for a while.

I want it, I really want it. My N3DS XL's paint started chipping off recently, so this is killing me. The small N3DS build quality is so much better.

That Mario SuperStars cover is GOAT.

So aggregating that they are still adding Nintedo Select games and Star Fox 64 3D still isn't one if them.

Also sucks that the Pikachu 3DS XL is thr only one with SNES styled buttons. I really want the 3DS with those style buttons but that Pikachu 3DS is definitely not my style.

Yeah I don't understand why Star Fox 64 still isn't a Nintendo Select game. That's crazy. I'll just wait patiently.

Great to see continued support for the Nintendo 3DS. 60 million people own it... It's a great system with a fantastic library of games.

Exactly. Nintendo even say Switch is a home console you can take with you. Gaf is confused. If the Switch fails, the 3DS can keep Nintendo buoyant, while they release a successor. It makes great business sense to continue to support a system that already has a large amount of users.

I still love my new 3ds xl. I like the dual screen setup and the 3D effect, I have the option to use it or not when I'm playing my games. I hope Nintendo doesn't completely abandon the dual screen and 3D concept forever, cause I like it.

I've got the Majora's Mask 3DSXL, but may sell it for that Pikachu one.

would love to grab one of those Pikachu systems, but then it's time for the TN/IPS screen Russian roulette again...
unless you wait to buy (which means you risk it being completely sold out) to find out if they IPS screens or not...
ugh...

So...Yoshi and Tank Troopers in February, Mario Sports in March, FE Echoes in May, and two new amiibo lines for 3DS-exclusive games. Maybe the final BoxBoy game, too, if we're lucky? Not a bad showing of support in 1H 2017 from Nintendo.

I'm guessing that likely leaves 2H 2017 with Ever Oasis, Pikmin, FE Warriors, and probably at least one more game. That shouldn't be too bad either, especially when coupled with other third-party 3DS releases.

2017 is still looking healthy for the platform. I expect a poor-to-okay year in 2018 and then basically silence (or like a Wii U 2017) in 2019 from a first-party perspective.

I imagine a price cut has to be happening this year at some point for n3DS XL.

You do know that whole thing is massively overblown, right? You're only going to notice the difference between the screens if you're going out of your way to compare them.

Yeah, this is definitely not of the DS Lite cracked hinge level of terribleness. If I look closely at two completely white screens on mine, I can see a difference, but yeah, in normal gameplay where 99% of the time I'm looking just at one screen, it's not noticeable whatsoever.

Kinda surprised they're still selling n3DS XL for $200 when Switch is $300. Feel like the XL should drop to $150 and standard n3DS should be $100. But oh well.

Man I want that Pikachu XL. Have ZERO NEED FOR IT WHATSOEVER. But dayummmmmm.

You can get one of these now on Amazon if you don't mind spending 100 dollars over MSRP. It's the middle eastern version, which means it plays US games.

I wonder how's the online component in the Mario Spors games.

I have been wanting a new 3ds xl to come out. Mine is starting to feel a little worn. I would like to get a backup.

Are they shipping out any more 3DS hardware besides this special edition? They haven't shipped anything since November. People like to say they are selling out because of the holiday but local stores haven't received shipments in literally months while online stores have been sold out without receiving any stock that entire period as well.

I imagine Triple Deluxe and Dream Team were picked because of Paper Jam and Planet Robobot coming out last year. They were easy titles to pick to be Select titles.

Yep, that sounds right.

I agree completely with your expectations for continued 3DS support. I also agree that a price cut is coming by the end of this year for the XL model.

I'm hoping we see Detective Pikachu part one this year as well. Unless we're waiting till the game is finished to get it in the West. Surely with the movie coming the game will come at some point also.

Disagree, unfortunately. I have a TN New 3DS and a dual-IPS N3DS XL, and the latter looks miles better.

Thankfully, the Switch has a single display supplier..

I know their reasoning for putting Mario Sports Mix on 3DS with the install base and all, but it really would have been a perfect early life cycle concept game for the Switch that could have made full use of the consoles features between the motion controls, HD Rumble, touch screen, and IR sensor. Seems like a missed opportunity.
Couldn't agree more. At the very least, release on both platforms..

Also, Joycon local multiplayer would've been amazing!

That makes sense. And yet 3D Land and NSMB 2 still haven't been picked.

I can understand that in regard to 3D Land and NSMB 2. I think they have got on sale for about half-off every once and a while, but haven't been picked for Selects yet. Which is even weirder when 3D World is a Nintendo Selects on Wii U.

Quick Question:

I know this isn't the thread to ask, but the original launch thread is a bit quiet. I'm currently based in Hong Kong, and I am looking to purchase a 3DS (in particular the regular New 3DS). However, my conflict is I am not sure which version to purchase i.e., region. As such, for gaffers based in Hong Kong which 3DS should I get?

Thanks!

It depends on what region games you want. Do you want Japan, US, or Asia region games? You can get games and system from all 3 region in Hong Kong.

Don't ever get Asia region because of the limited games unless they can play Japanese region games too.

I mainly play US games because I won't be able to understand Jap games, as such would GAF recommend me to purchase a US based 3DS?
