PS4 firmware 4.50 add Boost Mode for PS4 Pro.

If the game is locked at 30 then this will only stabilize that, which is cool. I bet just cause 3 runs better. Maybe some developer will unlock the frame rate.

Could someone try Assasins creed Unity on boost mode?

I am reaaally curious in particular for this game.

I think its a great sample of what sort of improvements in performance boost mode brings.

Everyone that has a pro and signed up for this should've had priority dammit, I'm a salty bitch.

Seems Sony use the true RNG method

A) Fairly dormant account, only signs on occasionally, PS4 only owner
B) Daily user, PS4 and Pro, also uses PSVR

Bloodborne loading times are noticeably better from comparing with and without Boost mode, hadn't progressed far with my current character so couldn't really get into any demanding scenes to compare performance.

That's certainly interesting since the Pro already loads many games faster. I never really bothered to tell if they were already patched for the Pro or not, but now it has me wondering what exactly boosts the load times in those games. I previously thought it had something to do with the faster HDD SATA connection. Maybe it still is, but for whatever reason, the Pro also makes it run at base PS4 speeds when running an un-patched game.

Now I'm seriously thinking about what SDD speeds would look like with Boost Mode enabled.

This is a good thing to have, some games were designed around the ps4 base spec and never had caps applied so the extra grunt from the pro may benefit the game in some way, either less dynamic res scaling or higher fps.

I believe you. I have little doubt they did it intentionally to emulate the boss explosion slowdown that lots of shmup games have. But it's done in such a way that the slowdown is achieved by spamming so much crap on the screen that the machine gets bogged down, so I wonder if the boost mode here will power through that.

Cool, I didn't realise they did it by straining the engine.

If it does change behaviour it might help us a bit with understanding how beast mode works.

There's a lot information out there on how they do the graphics in Resogun.

We won't have long to test as the pro patch is due any day.

You can forward the message with an invitation to another person and then he goes to the link, gets the code, redeems it.
My Twitter follower just did that to me, so I got into beta.

Thrilled to hear about this. Already love my Pro, but obviously this is outstanding to hear.

Any idea if all the Beta codes to try this firmware out have been sent? Any received one in the USA yet?

Everybody's been asking for a BB Pro Patch...
Now that we've got a Beast mode, everybody's saying that BB's framerate is 30 fps stable and that the real issue is frame pacing?

Come on GAF, I know y'all want to Bloodborne Beast mode bae for tonight.

Yep, First time I play a Battlefield game, I've just started my first match with Boost Mode.
Won 58-0.

Yep. You're already dead. That guy with 3 more frames than you is in Beast Mode.

lol I think you know what I mean.

Previously on console I wasn't worrying about whether the other player had superior hardware that might give them the edge in a 50/50 situation. I'm confident I'll still be doing well in Rainbow 6, for example, but it's those close calls where you think you should have got them first that niggle at you.

I've said before that if there was a 'Pro' label beside the player on the scoreboard, like there is with Wii-Wheel players in Mario Kart, then I wouldn't mind it so much.

The reality is I was already looking at Switch as the only device I'll be doing PvP on for future releases, this just rains on my parade of being able to play older PS4 games without that feeling.

It was always the frame pacing.

I was able to play Dark Souls on 360 quite happily despite the awful frame-rate in some areas. Bloodborne gave me headaches.

if a pro patch literally only adds 4k UI it would still by nature see the same benefits that this beast mode provides for non patched games because it's not running downclocked hardware

That isn't just what a pro patch does, there are various new bits of hardware and hardware features that the PS4 pro has beyond just being a faster Ps4.
It's a little like having a new console in that regard, which is why we are likely to see Pro games performing better later on down the line when game engines are more efficicently using the new features.

You've got all the DCC stuff all the half float variables as a couple of examples

Come on, your ping vs. their ping has always had far more effect on an MP game than a few extra frames here and there.
