PS4 firmware 4.50 add Boost Mode for PS4 Pro.

Many of us have said its possible in response to Cerny's own comments regarding the nature of the GPU improvements.

Your input is appreciated man, but the pat yourself on the backs shtick is beyond old.

I was talking to someone who bought a PS4 Slim in December because PS4 Pro didn't have this feature but if he seen my post he could have given Sony time to put out this update that is happening a little over a month after he pulled the trigger on a Slim,

Yeah if only we all took the time to read every single post ever written.

So wait... Sony just randomly stealth activated boost mode? And the results are good?

Murmurs about it being possible in past months, but yeah, besides some dreams there wasn't any concrete info it was coming in the next FW update.

Results are very good in some games (especially those with unlocked framerates), minor in others. Games with Pro support aren't doing anything at all. It's only games that never got patched.

I'm pretty excited to see what happens with this is the coming months. I hoped this would be a feature at launch, however, I'm excited they are implementing it now.

Yeah thats a weird thing to take the time to go dig up..."see guys, i told you!!".

Yes it's weird to dig up a post about a sneak update that boost the frame rate of some unpatched games on PS4 Pro in a thread about a sneak update that boost the frame rate of some unpatched games on PS4 Pro.

Yeah journalists and outlets who can make money out of what they do are often best sticking to NDA. The gamers? Well, lol, NDA????

Tbh there isn't really any point in Sony putting NDAs on beta FW.
I agree...then again, this is basically free marketing for them right now. Then when the NDA lifts, they get another wave of marketing when sites like DF cover the updates.

Thanks for getting the beta account chain rolling last night. Waited 4 hours in line but I am all set up.

General Question:
Anyone have a list of games with unlocked frame rate? I must have about 100 PS4 games and a weekend with nothing to do since my wife is in Puerto Rico.

Also..how can I get a frame counter going? Do those capture boxes (El Gato) do it. Going to Best Buy in an hour to get some 3D blu-rays and will pick one up if they are able to do so.

And is this really a sneak update, it's part of their next firmware..and it's in beta.

If only someone would have said something before December that could have warned you about the chances of a Boost Mode

Lol nice it's like when Jeff Rigby becomes right later on

i mean back then most people where probably, saying "hey look its onq again" nothing wrong with him showing he knew what he was alluding to.

I guess you have to be up on literally every little NeoGAF subplot to know this was even a thing. Kudos to the guy for throwing a dart at a dart board.

He said that he felt ripped off & Sony should have mentioned it at launch my post said if you give them time to test games we might see a update that boost frame rates of some unpatched games. so yes if only he would have read my post.

And yes it was a sneak update because no one knew about it until it was released even though it's the biggest news about the update next to the USB harddrive news & it wasn't even mentioned on the PlayStation Blog.

I played some of the maps for CoD Ghosts where the frame rate used to drop to single digits, and it ran way way smoother on the Pro. Very cool update.

What maps were they? I mean yeah some of them would drop down from 60 to 30 and maybe mid 20s if a lot was going on but single digits? I've never seen that in countless hours of play time.

You are correct though, drops are virtually non existent now on boost mode, anywhere, multi-player or campaign.

Yeah thats a weird thing to take the time to go dig up..."see guys, i told you!!".

He has an obsession with being "right" and has some Nostradamus complex where he likes to pretend he predicts things are going to happen...

In reality he just makes random, vague statements, rarely based on any evidence whatsoever, and then gets to quote himself all over threads when he was "right."

In this case "boost mode" was something everyone knew was possible

I hear what you are saying..
But how are you gonna assume the guy you responded too was around to see your crystal ball prediction. It's a Batman thread and it doesnt look like he even posted in it.

That explains it..
Thanks for clarifying. Done trying to make a point with him.

Fucking weird.

Does anyone know if MS NDA FW?

Np! It was actually a GAFer who suggested the idea, and then another who provided the first code which turned into burner account #1. Great community response all round! Hopefully something that might not be needed again if Sony just go opt-in for betas, no RNG invites. I know wave 2/3 normally catches everyone, but it usually means waiting 1~3 weeks longer than your gaming friends.

Why are you saying "we" when I was talking to someone who said they felt ripped off because Sony didn't mention a upcoming update when the PS4 Pro was launched & caused him to buy a PS4 Slim because of the lack of this feature?

Perhaps. But in this instance he was actually right lol.

I don't get that guy's sentiment nevertheless.

If one doesn't care for (even more significant) performance improvements for newer games getting pro patches, why does one even care for the boost mode enough to make it decide whether you buy a ps4 slim or pro. Even if you didn't know about those rumours regarding a boost mode it was clear from the beginning that pro was the right choice for those seeking better performance.

Great for Pro owners, I own the original one so a I envy you hahah.

Welp, maybe when there is a price cut I'll consider buying one.

The more interesting games are some older ones:

I'm more talking about Until Dawn (uncapped framerate, 20-40fps fluctuation), Killzone SF (30fps cap with one mode, but uncapped with another one), The Evil Within (struggles hard to reach the 30fps cap), Tomb Raider DE (uncapped framerate), all the Musous with uncapped framerates etc. pp.

I really hope we will see some impressions from DF, NX Gamer or VG tech with their tools on these games at some point.

Two games I'm going to be playing through, also Just Cause 3 which I bought today.

Forgot TEW finally had letterbox patched out as well.

I have a 1080P OLED and a launch PS4. Does this update make trading up to a Pro logical for me since I have so many PS4 games already? I am planning on getting a Scorpio too.

I have all those and would test them but I have zero way of proving a difference.
Hopefully DF puts out some videos. Think its time I subscribed to their Patreon.

Yep.

I been right over & over again while people tried to make me out to be crazy.

Don't worry. We can feel the petty buthurt in the posts.

Keep doing ur thing.

Lol

There's no Pro or PS VR in stock at Amazon UK and no date when they will be. I wonder what's happening with Sony supply chain.
All region 2 ps4 pro probably got bought to asian market, lol. I cant find any asia region ps4 pro that come with warranty, but I can easily find region 2 ps4 pro in most store but they don't have official Sony warranty so I had to keep waiting.

So if the cpu and gpu are both boosted in clock speed.
Did somebody test a game with dynamic resolution ?
Perhaps now it will keep higher resolutions and higher fps(because most of time resolution drops in favour of stable fps).
And did somebody test battlefront ? Its sometimes below 60fps.
Also i really hope some devs release an option for unlocked fps. I think its an easy thing to do for them and it would make the boost option even more appealing. Or even if this is easy to do make an option for higher resoluitons. Would kill for an battlefront on 1080p and 60fps stable.

Depends on how many PS4 games you have and how many are older unpatched PS4 titles. It might be better to opt for Scorpio if you don't have many unpatched titles. But it might be better to opt for the Pro because Pro will generally have the better console version of older such multiplatform titles due to the boost mode now being available.

Hey...I don't know why anyone would buy a Slim over a Pro. I think its a dumb idea.

But for someone to be like..well if you only listened to me you wouldn't have this problem..I would be like 1) I have no idea who you are and 2) There are 100,000 posts on GAF, sorry I haven't read them all..especially a single sentence in a post in an Arkham City video analysis thread.

Hmm, from the sounds of it, it's a activate, update to 4.5 , deactivate kinda deal right? Would love to get it on that!

My pro and psvr sit waiting patiently to test a bunch of stuff

Has anyone tried it with Until Dawn yet? I've wanted to try it for a while now, but the reports of crappy performance have always made me hesitate.

Of course, but not all pro patches are using the full strength of the GPU and CPU......

Boost mode is basically hit the ceiling......
That's not entirely accurate, they just use the power in different ways, for pro patches they take a bite out of the additional performance while utiziling some of the pro specific features to boost resolution and other various graphical settings, boost mode is exactly that, more or less the same as running stock clock speeds on a GPU then overclocking and running the same title. Older games may run better but they're not making use of any of the newer feature set
