South Park Creators backing off Trump.. "Satire has become reality"

Matt and Trey really should have signed creative control of South Park over to the brilliant minds in this thread. I know it's their show but why should that mean they get to write about a topic they haven't already hammered into the ground? Cowards.

Man it's fucking hysterical how the only ones lobbing out insults, derogatory shit, and anything resembling policing peoples attitudes here are the ones acting like we're just the worst human beings around for daring to have a different opinion on a fucking entertainment product than them.

Like Jesus fucking Christ.
You're really saying only one side here has been making insults? You're being very dramatic here

Wait, what the fuck, this was an actual thing?

People getting raped to death = comedy?

The way they built it up and presented it, yes it was funny.

Edit: Funny to me because I didnt expect him to do it, just like a lot of people didnt expect Donald Trump to do the things he said he would do.

That was a disturbing part of the episode.

The comedy was that Mr garrison had his "fuck em all to death" as his campaign slogan, talking about the immigrants. In this case Canadians. Then he actually goes and fucks one to death

Thays not really Trump he is Canadian

I believe that would be Trumpdeau.

Also, way late to this... Trump was not featured in any of the last season episodes. They substituted him for Garrison, as everyone here knows. I am sure that they are going to give Herbert Garrison a really crazy narrative next season that will go in its own direction. But man, they are right... how can they top real life right now?

Garrison was gonna fuck everyone to death.

Damm just realised that Ubisoft are alt-right pandering cowards. They are developing and publishing South Park The Fractured But Whole and so are supporting Matt and Trey, people(if you can call them that) who dont attack Trump every chance they get(which means you support Trump) and so by associatioin they support Trump as well.
Guess I'm going to have to boycott there games, really sucks because I enjoyed For Honor Beta alot.

Ya know, there's something eerily prophetic about that. As in, more people should have taken Trump's words literally.

Does it really matter the most now? One could pretty easily argue that it mattered a lot more during the election where they might actually influence voters.

mmm yeah? the guy is destroying everything in his power position, them doing it now is a nice way of "protesting" tbh, criticize the fuck out of all the shit he's doing. And i'm sure as hell it matters more than any possible topic they want to tackle on the show's new episodes.

They are still the pussies, but I didn't want to invite a conversation on a topic I really don't care much about.

Easy for the South Park creators to use their platform to make jokes against progressive movements but Trump is too "difficult" to make fun of. More like, their fan base will revolt if god emperor Trump is rightfully lampooned

Trump was "rightfully lampooned". More so than any other person or character in the history of the show. What the hell is this thread?

Scared.

I'm willing to go out on a limb and assume a portion of Trump supporters mesh with the South Park audience. They have nothing to gain lambasting Trump.

See, hear, speak no evil.

Lol you skipped over the entire thread to post this, didn't you.

That's like saying a portion of Trump supporters mesh with the Pokemon audience. I mean, yeah, probably, but it says nothing about who Pokemon is for.

You watched the lastest season of South Park? In fact as the poster said above me, did you even read this thread?

I'm not a troll nor am I the only one to call them cowards. Seriously they need to be going ham on Trump satire to convince their "both sides are wrong" audience that Trump is truly the worst. Donald Trump is the easiest guy to parody and South Park is a show about current events and everything Donald Trump does will be a huge current event 'til he's out of office. But they think liberals are whiny so fuck it both sides are wrong.

There's no validity to this. There's no way anyone who watched last season would think they were saying both sides are wrong. They've already said that if Trump won he would fuck the country up beyond repair, that he had no clue what he was doing, that he was a jackass, that he was saying racist, xenophobic, and sexist things, that his followers were brainwashed by a racist homophobic nazi-esque nostalgia movement, that he wanted to blow a country up because he was insulted, he destroyed Canada, and he was raped to death. How much more do they need to run this into the ground? Saying they're cowards is just funny after everything they've said and done. It comes off as trolling when people say something so hilariously untrue and then leave the thread.

Garrison is basically a Trump stand in. You can say Trump raped himself to death.

That being said, I've always been uncomfortable with South Parks use of rape jokes.

I didn't read the entire thread, I confess. This is my initial reaction to the OP posted, as I think I am allowed.

I understand they have gone at him during the campaign, but if they won't go at him while he has actual power, it comes off as fear. And, to be honest, I don't blame them; I wouldn't want Trump angry at me at this point either. As it stands, it's one less voice calling him out.

The hell? Most of Hollywood has been vocally anti-Trump. Madonna even said something about blowing up the white house. I will not be surprised if Gaga uses the superbowl to voice a similar message. No one is afraid of shit.

They've already angered every group in existence.

Yeah fear by the guys who kept wanting to show Mohammed against CCs wishes even when their actual lives were in danger.

What?

The hell does that have to do with South Park?

If they do, great. The more people putting on the pressure, the better. They said they won't, though. Because life is imitating art? I could be wrong, maybe they really are out of ideas for him, but I personally feel like it's folding.

I'm sorry. If proven, I'll gladly eat the crow.

It's not about humor for me or business. It's about exposing a problem so it can't be ignored. Maybe that's why I may not be catching the drift.

The he'll does that have to do with South Park?
I'm wondering why you think the guys who've pissed off every group in the world would suddenly be 'afraid' to mock someone that their entire industry is mocking. South Park thrives off being edgy and controversial. When every popstar and comedian is lambasting Trump, Parker and Stone may have another reason to back off than cowardice.

Parker and Stone are firmly in the middle/libertarian. It's been clearly established many times over. Both sides try to claim them as their own but from their own words:

Q: Are you two guys liberal or conservative? Me and my friends have had debates about this.
Parker: We avoid extremes but we hate liberals more than conservatives and we hate them [conservatives].
Stone: I hate conservatives but I really fucking hate liberals.

That quote is from early 2000s this one came out when Team America was released.

Q: I don't know if you've heard about this, but there have been essays written about the concept of the "South Park Republican."
Parker: Yeah, we have seen that. What we're sick of—and it's getting even worse—is: you either like Michael Moore or you wanna fuckin' go overseas and shoot Iraqis. There can't be a middle ground. Basically, if you think Michael Moore's full of shit, then you are a super-Christian right-wing whatever. And we're both just pretty middle-ground guys. We find just as many things to rip on on the left as we do on the right. People on the far left and the far right are the same exact person to us.

These is what I meant by "all sides are stupid" ^

It was better from Seasons 2-11 (probably right before the Family Guy episode) because it was an absurdist comedy with bits of satire in there because they had the ability to make a show reference something that literally just happened. But now that it's ONLY satire? It's horrible.

Yeah, I ditched the show sometime around then as well, caught a few here & there since but never really got into that direction

The game was cool though

South Park is the Jontron of TV shows. Once entertaining, now pandering to "anti-PC" channer bullshit.

Oh yeah, saw a bit of the season before last and nope'd right out from that mess

last season wasn't very funny so if that means no trump means funnier episodes i'm ok with it

season before the last one was gold though, loved pc principal

They are right though. South Parks portrayal of celebs has always been funny because it's an extreme portrayal of things about them eg Cruise packing fudge and hiding in the cupboard, Gibson being a nutcase, George RR Martin being sex obsessed and never finishing a story, Russell Crowe fighting around the world.

But you get to Trump and you literally can't beat the real thing. We are talking about a narcissistic, ego maniac, white nationalist who is a reality TV star and allegedly molests women and loves to get peed on while also owning Beauty Pageants

If anything Garrison felt like a watered down Trump

They also kind of wrote themselves into a corner by having Garrison as Trump when the real thing would have worked better

I think there is a legitimate question of what the point of satirizing Trump would be exactly. As a genre, satire is basically meant to expose the stupidity or evil of a certain person or group of people. Do we really need satire for that at this point when Trump and co. are so clearly acting out their evil fantasies in front of us? They already ran Garrison's version of Trump on a platform of "fuck them all to death," so how do you even top that? Another point of satire is often to shame at least some people into acting better, and when we're dealing with the literal modern day resurgence of Nazis, do think we can shame them into behaving better?

I guess my thought would be that the time for laughing at him is over. I don't think we do ourselves any favors any more by laughing at pee jokes, how he has trouble getting down stairs or anything like that. It's time to take him seriously, like the threat he is.

Considering extreme liberals and extreme conservatives as equally abhorrent is not the same as claiming they're both sides about all issues. No one in this thread has given concrete examples in South Park where they equally went for/against both sides of a hot button issue. If you feel different, please give an example. Anything.

What? Garrison Trump was the greatest.

He fucking matches up to Trump like a T... him and Trump are both easily set off by the insults and always trying to prove they are better than everyone.

Seriously Garrison is a dude who built his own Segway thing because he hated air travel after 9/11.

Extreme conservatives are Neonazis in favour of genocide.

How do extreme liberals pull off being equally abhorrent?.

Anti-fascists and anarchists who want to destroy society and kill everyone to the right of them who disagrees with their ideologies.

Considering some didn't get PC Principle I might doubt it.

Expand please.

Seriously Garrison is a dude who built his own Segway thing because he hated air travel after 9/11.

Yeah... and he comes pre packaged as a racist/sexist/xenophobe... not to mention he also changes his opinions on the whim just to please someone... like wanting to bang Richard Dawkins and changing his view from being pro religious to being an atheist.

20 years of saying both sides are bad, then the first time one side immediately comes right out and says with evidence "no, we're actually much worse", they distance themselves. Matt and Trey can both fuck off
