Destroying a team filled with arrogant players and cancerous heroes is always fun. And so gratifying.

On a related note, Troll is pretty good this patch.

Every time lmao.

If you lose it, that's game over.

Rapier is too much of a liability.
One of the longest games I've played was with a 7 slotted Medusa who had 2 rapiers at one point and we still didn't win. Granted we were against a Spectre.

Is a fully slotted Sniper the hardest hero to siege against though? At least you can reach a Medusa.

Really you just need to ask yourself a series of questions if you want to buy a rapier:

1. Does my hero even have any business buying a rapier? On most if not all supports, this is a hard no. Other heroes, they really have to gain something significant from doing so. Yes the damage is technically good on every hero, but you have to factor in the slot, and balance the risk of dropping it with sacrificing that slot. Gyro and Medusa are heroes that absolutely benefit from rapier and could easily be a core late game item on them to seal the deal. PA or Razor on the other hand, while they like the damage, don't gain near as much from having a rapier. I had a game where I was Medusa, we were losing badly, the enemy Razor bought a celebratory rapier and I ended up getting it. We were able to win the game off of that alone.

2. Does your hero need this to seal the deal? While you might not normally buy it on a hero like NP, the game might be in a state where the damage from a rapier might allow you to backdoor and win it for your team.

3. Is the risk of losing it worth it? Do you have the defensive items you need like BKB, Linked, an Omniknight, Mek, Pipe, GG boots, etc. Does the other team have something that can consistently pick off your hero? You have to decide whether it is a safe enough move.

Most important: Do not but a "we lose or we lose" Rapier unless you are absolutely sure that is your only potential way out. In the game I mentioned earlier, that Tusk wanted to get the rapier because he thought the game was over either way. I explained how we still had a chance and they a lost rapier would easily close they chance.

I'm onto attempt #6 of my all hero challenge with Templar now and it's depressing as fuck. I've hated playing so much today that for the first time I'm seriously considering deleting Dota, it's just not healthy.

I play a good amount of TA, if you link some games I might be able to help you.

when you get 3 ultras in one match as sven and each time someone keeps jacking the last hit on the last enemy :(

Thank you! Here's my most recent game for example: https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/2992274340

I really have no idea what I'm doing. I even looked up 'how to play' videos and watched a few of them, but still feel utterly hopeless in every game with her :( I can't do much meaningful damage and I'm super squishy.
Well, first of all lets talk about your items. Desolator is good, and core on her, but you really need a mobility item on her. Blink is best, and usually recommended. It is necessary because the Meld hit is so easy to whiff, and it is the main source of your damage. You can blink on someone, Meld and hit easily. Dragon Lance you can also make a case for, but IMO there are better items for her. Some people like Treads on her, but I prefer Phase because of the move speed and damage. She is more reliant on damage than attack speed, since you want those big Meld hits, as well as the Refraction hits. Depending on the game you might want BKB.

For your skill build, leave a value point in Psi Blades. Extending range seems appealing, but you can easily manipulate the lane with one point. Max Refraction like you were doing, then Meld. With one point in Psi Blades at 1 or two, you can use your positioning to hit the enemy hero with pure damage and get last hits and denies. Watch creep health and be ready at the right angle to try to get a LH/Deny and hit your opponent at the same time.

Use traps liberally, mark common spots opponents will go through. Put one in Rosh pit, put them on rune spots, etc. For what it's worth, they do NOT block neutral camps.

For the most part, your core is Phase, Blink, Deso.

Edit: one more thing, remember that blink is not cancelled if a damage instance hits your Refraction. This means if a Veno gales you, you can still blink as long as it hasn't ticked through all your Refraction charges.

Reminds me of 2014 when I just spammed mid doom going phase boots > radiance and got 1000mmr out of it.

This doesn't seem so successful though 😃

Thank you so much! I'm going to have another go at playing with Templar now :) I tried blink a couple of times and they were by far my worst (I think one game I did like 4k damage, and went 0-12) but you're right that mobility is a big issue with her, and I like the idea of phase boots rather than treads.

I'm so bad with the traps that I've pretty much given up on levelling them, I guess I should get one point though because they were useful at slowing escaping enemies in my last game, and I like the idea of putting them in the rosh pit, on runes etc.

That's super useful to know about refraction and blink dagger too, thank you!

I think one thing I'm really lacking is farm, judging by the amount of net worth I usually have almost the lowest in game, so I'll focus on that a lot too :D

Edit: It's going badly again x_x I'm going to try and support to mitigate my damage to the team. This is awful.

Why is it every time, LITERALLY every time I pick Lifestealer I am on some shitty ass team that picks 4 cores after I have chosen Lifestealer (and said I was carrying and put myself in a lane)?

That hero is cursed on me. I laned with a guy who last picked a drow ranger who proceeded to bitch at me because I was out CSing him when we already had a jungling Prophet so the only place I could get levels was in lane. We then proceed to lose because we a) have no supports and no one wanted to buy wards until I fell on my sword and did b) Drow and me couldn't farm well enough because, surprise surprise, we took each others farm.

Eurgh.

Every game I've played the last month has been 4-5 core carries...some games have even been with 2-3 late late game carries.

I've just stopped caring, and honestly, I'm having a lot of fun now.

This isn't high mmr btw, around 3k on my smurf.

I have not used cocaine
900th game of dota was an absolute stomp last night. Slardar+blink>crush is so damn satisfying. 3 of us were some how on the same page while the other 2 were able to farm all game. The WK even randomed and then bought all the wards+courier. It was like a fun game of dota where people try to win, communicate, and work together.

If you need more farm, stacking camps and knocking them down with Psi Blades is an option. Particularly with ancients.

Also with traps they are great for chasing an enemy too. There is nothing wrong with hitting D to detonate them either. Years ago it used to be there was an animation for using that button, but there wasn't if you selected and detonated them manually. You can still detonate them manually to choose which one you want rather than the one closest to you.

I'll watch one of your replays when I get back home.

If you got stuff like a baby to take care of that can demand 10+ minutes of your attention at a time then ranked isn't the mode for you.
