Ghost Recon: Wildlands Open Beta: February 23rd - February 27th

Ehh, I'll play it again.

This game went from highly anticipated, to wait and see after playing the closed Beta.

Terrible characters, couldn't care less about the story (which is frankly unneeded, give me a text briefing...don't need the cringy cutscenes/story), squad/character chatter is eye roll inducing, vehicles controlled horribly (especially the chopper), AI is dumb, side missions are uninspired, graphics were subpar along with a myriad of glitches and technical issues.

That said, the old creed still holds true...coop makes everything fun. The gunplay wasn't too bad either and the draw distance was pretty amazing.

Might be a good 'two-weeks' game, feels like there's a lot that needs fixing.

Seriously though, Ghost Recon doesn't need the bullshit, melodrama 'story'. I'm not even against the idea of the open world, MGSV style approach the mission your way gameplay, but man...everything outside of the main missions felts empty and trivial. Would have preferred a smaller world if it meant tighter and more focused gameplay. Basically more Ground Zeroes.

This post was way longer than I anticipated.

Missed out on the closed beta so this will be great will DL the Xbox and PS4 versions and decide where I want to play the retail version.

Do we know if the PS4 version will have Pro enhancements in the beta?

I swear to God the last several major open betas and free weekends have occurred on weekends I've been away from home. It's some kind of curse.

At least the enemies drop super quick, which is a night and day difference from The Division, and a seriously appreciated one.

But that was from the starting area - and I've got no idea if enemies get spongier as you move up in the game's difficulty rating, or if that difficulty just means more vehicles, sniper and more organized attacks and defenses.

I think it was jackfrags, but he had gotten to play through a lot more and mentioned how there are a lot of bosses, but they're just as fragile as the regular NPCs. Well, maybe a little tougher, but still just takes a few shots to bring them down.

Thats great to read.

Are you talking about a beta being unpolished? Old build perhaps?

We've played this "game" long enough to know a beta this close to release is very indicative of final quality in this regard. Also past titles would prove this point. As I said. The last game was unpolished AND unfinished.

I want to try this on Xbox One this time in addition to the PC version.

I found what I think is it on the Xbox Store as it says "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Open Beta" but at the bottom of the page it says it's a closed technical test that will be available on August 25, 2016.

Can anyone confirm the download size of the Open Beta on Xbox One as 22.34 GB?

pre-load up on NA PC, 23.55GB.

That's odd as on PC it is 19.51 GB for me, maybe due to participating in the Closed Beta and still having the data, I don't know.

Edit: Yeah, the Open Beta game tile replaced the Closed Beta game tile in the Ubi Games List so it just must be using some leftover data from the previous beta.

Steam pre-load is live. 29.9GB install/24.1GB download.

Edit: The beta goes live at 6am ET.

Didn't really like what I tried in closed beta . I'll give it another try. Hopefully this runs better too on PC, but I doubt it.

Nvidia need to release drivers for this. Hopefully they tweaked several things already and it's not just the closed beta experience plus another region.

Had a good time in the closed beta, and I'm curious to see what they've fixed going into this one. Getting pretty close to release, so I'd suppose the game is basically in its final form save for what they bring in a day 1 patch. I'll definitely be checking it out for a while at least!

Fix those shit helo controls pls.
I didn't get into the closed Beta, but I hope they've listened to all the comments like this.

Flying choppers is my go-to activity in GTA. I don't need it to be the same, but 'not shit' would be a big step in confirming my purchase.

Looking forward to trying this with friends as I played the closed beta alone and found it quite underwhelming.

Vehicle control in general was by far the most disappointing aspect of the closed beta. Fingers crossed they got their shit together since then.

Much more fun with friends, we took some missions serious and others for fun but both were more rewarding and entertaining than soloing.

Fingers crossed that they are going to attempt to implement some community feedback. Mainly, helicopter controls. There were like 30 threads about that alone in the official forums.

I think these betas are little more than glorified demos.
The game is out in a couple of weeks, no? There's probably time to do very little.
If only more took NioH as an example.

But they are 2 different games tho. Division is an RPG. Wildlands is not.

The only reason I hold out hope is that there were changes made based on feedback between Division closed and open betas.

Edit: Popped over to the ubi forms to see if any official change notes have been posted, only this

We will have this data up for you shortly. Don't have an exact time frame but it will be up by tomorrow at the latest.

...and that was posted two days ago. Yeah, not looking like anything has been changed since closed. Ugh. Just new area to explore. If this game launches without addressing the god awful helicopter controls...I might have to convince my friends to hold off on buying it.

I keep clicking the Preload button but after selecting directory and stuff it kicks me out straight away saying "check internet connection & hdd space". Both are fine. Anyone else have this problem?

edit: n/m. Installing through Steam instead of Uplay solved it. Stupid Ubisoft piece of garbage.

A community manager or someone involved in the development of the game said the Closed Beta was not a final representation of the experience nor was it a demo of a completed area of the game (gameplay, visuals, etc).

Whether that holds true or not, we should find out in short order (well, to a certain extent that is considering the Open Beta will feature two new areas compared to the Closed Beta, however, I think most of us are just looking for vehicle handling/squad tactics/gameplay tweaks so it should be immediately noticeable).

PSN, 21 gig download:

xbox:

for PC its on the uplay splash page, 6.6 gig download.

I'd recommend trying out the beta if you were thinking of buying at launch, i cancelled my pre order after the last alpha; will just wait for the patches and price drop on gold edition. Horizon Zero Dawn and Mass Effect will just keep me too busy right now.

I have the game pre-ordered and pre-loaded on Xbox One. But I'll be playing the beta on PS4. Looking forward to trying it out.

Excited to try this with friends this time. For whatever reason, my invite option didn't work for the closed beta, and my friends had to sit it out and hear about it from me.

I did hop in with randoms and had a ton of fun.

Hoping we get a chance to see if they have more clothing options too.

Considering the Ghosts make such a deal about how clandestine they are, it was disappointing to see I couldn't dress to look like a rebel or local, only a tourist or blatantly US Special Operator.

The opening splash video from the community developer or whatever said that a second area is opened up for this beta, along with the area from the closed beta. It looked snowy and I don't remember any snow areas from the closed beta so it should be neat. It unlocks to play in 4 hours so we'll see then!

Really looking forward to seeing more of the game; hopefully some improvements as well. I enjoyed my time with the previous Beta. Solo or coop this is a fun game to play.

Shooting was fine in the last beta, but everything else was broken as fuck, the pointless civilians were all over the place, walking towards walls, just walking around not giving a fuck about the terrain. Or standing and watching you few feets from you while you are sneaking around the perimeter of a drug compound strangling people.

Graphics were a mixed bag, some of the effects and textures looked really good like how the ground turned to smush after a rainstorm but overall it was pretty ugly to look at at the highest settings.

The vehicle handling was also shit on pretty much all of the vehicles, and who thought that it would be a good idea to have infinite ammo with no cooldowns on a vehicle turret? Division had the problem of trying to balance rpg systems with a tactical shooter, this one has the problem of trying to mix whacky sandbox adventures to that and based on the 6 hours i played the last beta this has done that mix a lot worse than the division.
