Colin Was Right: Xbox's E3 Gambit (Feb 23)

I've never been more excited for a Microsoft E3 Press Conference. This is gonna be a make or break moment for them I think.

Scorpio is fine but the pro was a mistake.. Colin please.

Oof, nailed it. Colin's constant talking-up of the Scorpio gets me confused...

Edit: To be fair, Colin has gotten much better (I think) about how he presents information in his videos, so I can't be too hard on him.

Pretty much. At some point he and Greg need to admit they were wrong.

Pretty much. We know practically nothing concrete about the Scorpio to make any determination, let alone in comparison to PS4 Pro.

I personally think the pro is an option for the well informed gamer which is why you don't see sony pushing it hard at all (hell the slim gets all attention) . Ultimately, the priority will always be the base ps4 and I'm sure the pro is doing fine in small quantities.

The pro has been selling out since launch, it's still hard to get in many places in the world. It's more than just "doing fine".

same will be said for scorpio

Pretty much, a good unveiling of Scorpio and Microsoft first party games would keep interest in the console, if they fuck it up then its sales and attention will likely diminish.

We get on Colin about him not seeing the Pro as something that made sense but he mentions in the video that he may be in the minority. I'll give him credit for that because he is.

Great video nonetheless.

The PS4 Pro, is like the Plus version of the iPhone. It's not the face of the brand, it's for people willing to spend just that bit more to get just that bit more.

We know very little of Scorpio to quantify what it really is, or how it will relate to both the PS4 Pro or the XB1.
But I can't see it doing much more for XB1 than what Pro is doing for PS4.

Colin seems to be making a lot of assumptions about Scorpio that aren't substantiated. Scorpio may well be just like PS4 Pro; an iterative improvement on what has been before.
People made similar predictions about PS4 Pro before it's reveal and we all remember how disappointed many got after that reveal.

PS: why oh why Colin, is MS putting it's game on PC a mistake?? =/

Good video. Even if, as Colin consistently alludes, the Scorpio is a new generation, though, I just don't see how it's going to change anything as a $400 box (at the cheapest) against a $200 PS4/Xbox One S that plays all of the same games.

Because that's what it's going to be battling.

I agree with the last two minutes or so as well. It is just more interesting when Sony, MS and Nintendo are doing well. For gaming purposes, that is. Not the "Sony needs competition" stuff.

Every time I see one of these threads I wonder, did he steal the name for his blog from Colin Cowherd? Cowherd has for years done a feature every Monday called 'Colin was wrong, Colin was right'

I think the only reason colin is cool with the scorpio is either the following scenarios:

A) ms is losing the war and desperately wants a do over with a new gen (he stated this)

B) assuming the scorpio will have next gen leap which in turn justifies its existence unlike the marginal pro upgrade.

Either way you can't just ignore the current xb1 userbase.

I have yet to see a Colin Was Right video where he was actually, you know, right on every level. First post nails it.

It really looks like the Scorpio will be a next generation console unlike the Pro. At least they try to market it like an Xbox Two.

Doing so, it will be the first console to blur the lines of console generations as we know it.

If this is true it's going to be weird. The Playstation 5 has to be released sooner than we might think.

Really liked Colin's perspective.

One thing I will agree with Colin on is that MS need to do something about their first party content cos it is dire.

I can't see Crackdown 3 being a big seller, and Sea of Thieves is a very weird one (people seem to be hot on the Destiny model so I don't want to totally write it off).
On top of that, the previously mentioned lacking support with indies and JP studios compared to the competition.

Look at the enormous turnaround Sony has had since the early PS3 days with it's exclusives. MS need to invest in it's first party material, and stop relying ont he Halo/Gears/Forza trifecta with a couple token efforts on the side.

If either of these scenarios happen then of course, but I think it's a pipe dream, and much like PS4 Pro pre-reveal, I think people are over egging this and going to be disappointed.
They're both upgrade boxes for a reason but people keep treating them as new consoles.

I may well be wrong though.

If all he did was agree with the majority, then no one would pay him any mind.

if Scorpio start beating PS4 in US/UK but still lose to PS4 worldwide, I think Sony will keep riding this gen out. not rushing PS5 to release.

Yeah. PS4 Pro is there as an option for better performance. I doubt Scorpio will be anything different, just more power to push further but in the end, the same games. These new consoles are just kinda there, a nice option but not exactly trailblazing like a PS5/Xbox 5 would so I find it hard to see the game changing excitement of it all. From Microsoft's perspective it's probably healing a few wounds and setting them on a good road into next gen with Xbox 5 which is probably worth it. Sony showed with PS3 you can build up good consumer will and ride the wave into another generation, Microsoft need to use Scorpio as well as Xbox One/S to do that but you know, hardware alone isn't the solution, do better with games and fix them too, Halo MCC. Users need to trust you and Microsoft fail a lot.

Why do people think a $400 Xbox that plays the same games is going to cause some sort of explosion?

And people need to stop acting like Scorpio is a next gen console. It's not. Games will only look marginally better than the Pro and it's. it getting exclusive games

I think MS is going to prioritize Scorpio and try to leave the X1S as the secondary option.

This is going to depend on price point for sure but I do think MS is trying to reset the table.

Their first party games will never match up to Ninty and Sony tho, I don't think anything will change that so well have to see.

"I think putting your exclusives on PC is asanine"

*touts Nier Automata as an advantage PS4 has over XB1*

This.

If MS want to gain back market share a more expensive box won't be it.
I'm not saying it hasn't a place, but it definitely ain't a silver bullet.

Please tell me how a console that's likely $400 at the cheapest is going to outsell $200 PS4 Slim/Xbox One S consoles? Especially seeing as they'll all play Red Dead Redemption 2, Destiny 2, and Star Wars Battlefront 2.

It's not going to happen.

Pretty much. At some point he and Greg need to admit they were wrong.
Colin and Greg wholly believe that Scorpio isn't just a mid-cycle upgrade, but an actual next-gen console. I don't think that's the case, but they've argued that it's the Xbox 2, just completely backwards compatible.

I haven't seen the video yet. But that type of thinking is just wrong.

It's basically that, he was fair in his explanation of it and of course the unnecessary shade at the pro.

This.. to be fair I don't think this is a next gen upgrade..i mean you're gonna be behind by the time ps5 launches.
