The Waggle-Free Nintendo Wii Appreciation/Collectors Thread

So I'm trying out some different games and I've come to the conclusion that 2D games seem to look the best on my HDTV. WarioWare and Taiko no Tatsujin look wonderful despite being in 480p for example, whereas anything 3D and particular anything trying to look realistic doesn't hold up well. I need to play more games though - I haven't spent much time using it on a HD set overall.

I would recommend just continuing to play for more than 15 mins. You'll forget pretty quick that it's 480p.

Are we gonna have a 10 years topic today? Can't believe 10 years passed. Next year will be ten years from Mario Galaxy, time sure goes fast.

I think im doing well with my collection.
I have alot of the obscure games that jumped up in price these past couple months. I got em for cheap.

Dokapon kingdom
Fishing Resort
Ivy and Kiwi?
steelbook cursed mountain sealed
steelbook metroid prime trilogy
fire emblem radiant dawn
fragile dreams farewell ruins to the moon (excellent game, got grave of the fireflies vibe to it)
The last story sealed
Pandoras tower
and quite a few others

I'm very proud of my wii collection, hell i might even just mainly focus on the wii from now on, I do have the foundation of something great here.

I might just go ahead and bite the bullet and cheat a bit online for the two 5 dollar xseed games, victorious boxers and sky crawlers innocent aces.
I'd only be missing ju-oh the grudge and rune factory frontier.
Finishing all the xseed games would be a nice little accomplishment for me.

all good games aside from Rune factory which suffers from the runey system.

I'm fairly close to having all the Wii games I really want myself. I think I have around 20 left to grab. I went by gamestop the other day and it seems like the prices on the Wii stuff has gone up quite a bit. I'll probably have to stick with Gameover and online to finish things up.

It's almost Christmas, so game prices jump up quite a bit. It might be a good idea to hold off on the online buying until feburary. Just get the cheap rares first. Gamestop will always be somewhat constant with their pricing.

Figured I'd post a picture of my collection thus far. I think there are a few more I'm missing that I'd like to have:

Ordered a few more Wii games for Christmas: Trackmania and Geometry Wars Galaxies.
The former is especially obscure on Wii despite the series being a quite known name on PC.

Hey all! I still remember when I got my Wii, a Wavebird, and Twilight Princess one January after it came out. Still have it, and since then I softmodded it (Future project). I have a few questions.

1: How is the Wii 2 HDMI attachment?

2: Does anybody know more about this game that came with an exercise bike? It's similar to the LifeFitness bike that came out for the Super Nintendo. Apparently it's the rarest US Wii title, yet the PAL version is dirt cheap.

Here's my humble Wii games collection.

I wish I could do it without hacking the Wii...

Same for Dreamcast GDR.

T_T

I got a used Wii on the cheap specifically for modding it so that I could keep my original. I am glad I did, you have to rip apart the system way more than I expected. Fortunately there are so many Wii's out there picking one up on the cheap for a long time shouldn't be a problem. I'd highly recommend this route for anyone wanting to keep an unmodded system and $40 + a hard drive isn't too much of an investment.

Also having all the box and disc art for every game is pretty rad.

Picked up Zack & Wiki, Excite Truck, and Major Minor's Majestic March today. I had Z&W before but I haven't played the other two outside of a bit of Excite Truck. I also grabbed Prime 3 since it was dirt cheap. I hated it the first time I played it so it will probably just collect dust but I'll give it a second chance just to be sure.

Hey guys, I'd like to know if the Wii versions of Sega's arcade Model 2 Gunblade NY and Model 3 LA Machineguns are solid ports, and worth hunting down on this compilation.

Dokapon Kingdom got stolen from me back in the day(over 30 Wii titles stolen out of my luggage), that was one of my most frustrating losses. It is my all-time favorite party game.

They aren't bad ports, and you should be able to find this dirt cheap, hiding (unjustifiably) in a shovel ware bin. Worth it.

Gunblade NY & LA Machine Guns + Ghost Squad + House of the Dead games are some of my favorite Wii games

So bought a Wii U not long ago, and honestly besides playing a few times at friends houses, totally missed out on Wii. I have one questions for y'all:

1. Any downsides to playing Wii games on Wii U versus original hardware?

The graphics are scaled/processed on all settings and not as sharp/crisp.

Is this really noticeable? Good conditions Wii's are almost $100. At that point I'm considering just getting a $200 refurb Wii U from Nintendo. Bonus points that I've never owned a Wii U either so I can play a few of that systems gems.

In short: Wii U > Wii.

The other day I was talking to someone and The Wii came up. We sheepishly admitted that we both preferred RE4 with the Wii Remote and bonded.

Hmm, conflicting reports. Will probably get a Wii U though. There are a couple exclusive games on there I wouldn't mind playing in addition to the Wii games.

Beer Monkey's post is honestly the first I've heard of Wii games being "not as crisp" as on original hardware. Mind that you'd need to get a decent (best choice would be the official one) component cable for the Wii as well in order to get any sort of "clean" image anyway. Wouldn't take it for granted that a used one comes with one (out of the box it came with old ass AV cables). So just getting a refurb Wii U that you can simply plop into HDMI and have everything look good is much more painless. Nevermind all the other benefits that brings (playing Wii games Off-TV on the GamePad screen [still using Wii Remotes, etc] - basically Tabletop Mode from the Switch but with last-last-gen games on last-gen hardware^^)

The Wii U has a fantastic lag free scaler and it has HDMI. It's the best way to play Wii and Gamecube games on a modern TV (CRTs is another conversation).

Thanks, I placed my order this morning along with a handful of games.

GC and Wii games on Wii U's vWii look noticeably worse than either GameCube or Wii original hardware. Any benefit of the Wii U's scaler is negated by the fact there's something wrong with picture quality when it enters vWii mode (blurry, badly scaled output). You can see for yourself when you compare a Wii U VC game with a pixel-perfect mode (GBA) vs. the same game within vWii (VC or an emulator in the Homebrew Channel).

I have a Wii connected to my CRT setup and bought a second Wii for my HDTV just so I wouldn't have to use the Wii U for GC/Wii games. You may be able to live with it but I think it's an eyesore and it sucks.

It never dropped in price, so yeah it's still pretty expensive yeah. Really do recommend giving it a try, even through some not so legitimate ways. I absolutely loved every minute of it. And there's one hell of a jump scare that I absolutely loved!

Bought a Beovision yesterday and hooked up my wii to test it, wii graphics can be so gorgeous with the right settings on CRT. It's almost unbelievable.
