The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Preview Thread

I wouldn't be surprised if the only difference to both versions is resolution and that's it. I'm pretty sure they wanted to give the same experience to switch and wiiu owners, they said so themselves.

Switch

Pretty sure this isn't from the final Wii U version since so far Nintendo has only sent out the Switch versions. So this comparison is pretty useless.

Framerate is noticeably worse in the Wii U version according to Edge and that tweet made recently in this thread.

....what?

Someone posted a picture of it installed on their Wii U. It's leaked on the pirate sites.

To be fair to that member, they did say they have the Wii U version preordered. Still illegal though, but at least they're still paying for a copy I guess and just couldn't resist playing early.

Plus some magazines like Edge were sent both versions.

Resolution, draw distance, and sound. That is from Nintendo.

Fuck I really need to find a way to forget this game for 3 days. With all the spoilers going around, the youtubers acting like kids who can't keep their mouths shut, the impressions of a growing number of people... This is getting unbearable, this is the part where the hype stops being fun lol

The video shows him booting it from the Wii U dash. In the description he explains he pirated it and justified it because he has already paid for the switch version.

Hype stops being fun in the last week

Same. Say what you want about Nintendo's 3rd party support and shitty pricing modules, but they almost never push lackluster products. I reckon that the Wii U version will look and play fine

Welp. Those look identical. Someone prove me wrong for $400.

I think the Wii U version is shaping up to be a great product, the only difference being resolution and more frame drops. Totally fine if that's the only way to play it.

With that being said, the portability of the switch version is really appealing to me. I get that some only want to play at home, but knowing that I am going to play this [seemingly very long game] over the course of the next few weeks, taking it with me where ever I go, sounds awesome. I really don't think I'm going to be able to escape this game because of that, lol.

Regardless of which version you get, this game is looking better and better.

The most a Zelda game has sold is OOT at just under 11M. Tons of gamers have never played a Zelda game
Even when Zelda was at it's height in popularity, there were tons of gamers that never played a Zelda game. This is not something anyone should be surprised of.

French journalist from gamekult is reporting severe framerate problems from the Wii U version of the game, especially when you use the physics items.

I'm gonna need more impressions of the frame rate for the WiiU version. The graphics look good enough, but it's the performance that has me worried.

I sorta hope someone with an early copy goes into one of the more denser areas. So far the game seems pretty smooth on the plateau
I've been watching the stream on and off and it really doesn't look like it's gonna be an issue. Just like the Switch version it is said to be worse in the GP, around heavy weather, and during heavy action with a lot of enemies but not enough to ruin the experience.

People still love OoT and plays at a constant choppy 20 FPS.

Looks like I will be picking up the Wii U version. Looks close enough and saves me $300 from getting a Switch and its really more of a 'sit at home on my large TV kind of game' than a '2 hour bursts on a tiny screen game'.

Yeah, if only I could play my Switch version on the TV too!!!

Yep looks like the lighting was changed (downgraded?) in the Wii U version compared to last years e3 build.

Here are some more quick comparison screens. I only see very very minor visual differences so far outside of the resolution, but the dynamic lighting change is disappointing.

I am so torn right now. I'm considering what you're doing, cancelling my Switch/BotW/Pro Controller preorder and just keep the Wii U version. I don't mind paying for the new system, but will get little use outside of Zelda. If the Wii U version is good, that saves $370 until Mario Odyssey drops.

Finding it tough to actually cancel though!

Some of the lighting effects were likely downgraded slightly for performance reasons.

All he's trying to say is that he's happy he doesn't have to blast through $300+ to play one game lol

I was just messing with him.

It is pretty shocking that literally some of the first moments in the open world stutter so badly.

Nintendo wants to give you that Bethesda jank feeling early, so they can blow you away later.

Or you can have an inherently better version of zelda and have the switch for when Mario comes out.

Yeah the game stutters a fuck ton on Wii U, like way worse than on Switch. I'll stay to the Switch version when I'll be able to afford it. Don't really want to play the game in these conditions.

Money aside there is literally nothing whatsoever keeping the Switch version from being a 'sit at home on my large tv kind of game' since that's the entire concept of the system.

Maybe someone can correct me, But I believe it is because the GP is in a pretty elevated and central area there is more to draw all around link in the GP as opposed to other points below.
