Gamekult editor on graphical differences between the Zelda Switch/Wii U version

Honestly? The game ran BAD at last E3 on Wii U.
Like really, really bad frame rate-wise.
I'm not that surprised to read this.

I'm more curious about the pop-in as it's sort of bad on the Wii U. My hunch is that it's bad on both versions but I would like a DF video on it.

Yea, I'm curious as well. I can handle the frame rate dropping occassionally but pop in is very distracting to me. Hopefully Switch version isn't too bad.

In french here.

Rough translation courtesy of Coffinhal:

Strictly talking about the tutorial area :
Strong aliasing
Worse sharpness
Serious framerate drops
Visual issues with cutscenes and when getting out of the inventory
Too many actions (using a power+rotating the camera = "framerate death")
5 sec loading time when you get back to the Home menu
He installed every patch available
The plateau on Switch is bad framerate related and it gets better after, but in the plateau it's nowhere near what the Wii U version is

So basically they half arsed it, and send out the beta version. Got IT! They might as wel have cancelled it and said "Thank you Wii U buyers for all the support you have given us over the years. You drool, we rule!".

The framerate is mostly fine. It does drop in certain segments such as when there is a ton of alpha effects on screen and the plateau area is a strugglefest but that's to be expected. The Switch version has issues with the opening area as well and we don't know how it fares in the more intense combat sections either.

You're not playing some broken game.

LOL, the only thing Nintendo half-arsed here is the Wii U itself, but we already knew that 5 years ago. A better performance would likely require paring back the game itself.

How Nintendo thanks Wii U owners ...

Because us Nintendo fans are crazy, we'll just buy their next box anyway. :(.

At least we aren't as rabid as Sony Fanboys on forum (gosh they are toxic, not talking about the fans here, but the downright fanboy bullshit fanboys can spew), but Sony Fans are not crazy that they just buy any box handed to them (as PS3 has proven :) ). Nintendo fans however :(....... sigh I feel ashamed at myself.....

I mean, I know I will not be able to withstand the pressure and cave in... and just buy the next Nintendo branded hardware. But I mean:
* Seeing Wii U owners off like this (even though they were amazingly loyal to you :( )
* No Power Supply with a 3DS
* Needing an adapter for the headphone jack on the GBA SP.
* Suing the people that catalogue your Nintendo power publications so that they won't go lost with time.

The list goes on and on.. we Nintendo fans are just masochists by this point :(.

If the game ran so bad, surely Edge would've said something. As for graphic fidelity, well, it *is* a Wii U game.

I think edge did say something but since they mostly played on switch it was downplayed and probably didnt effect their opinion.
also they gave skyward a 10 so i wouldnt rule out a hint of nostalgia building tolerance to these things

With the game being leaked and all, has no one uploaded new Plateau footage of the Wii U version?

There's this which im not sure if its been posted or not.

Most impressions are coming from pirated copies using various ways to play the game. It may or may not be affecting how the game plays. Some people say the frame rate is fine others make it out like it's unplayable. A couple people have said theres a town where the frame rate hits single digits quite often which seems off. I cant imagine Nintendo would release a game in that state but who knows.

1. Sales of WiiU even compared to N64 or GCN show the opposite of your narrative - not even Nintendo fans blindly buy their HW

2. Holy mother of generalisation @sony fans.

3. If being a Nintendo fan makes you feel like a masochist - how about some emotional distance? You sound a bit unhealthily attached to them

Oh, didn't know that. Makes sense it runs like shit for those guys since and serves them well.

I remember being at a friend's house one time, he had a modded ps3 -even though I always forget that was even possible - and had Uncharted 3 loaded from the hard drive I believe.

Game did all sorts of wacky things, like loading taking forever, framerate dropping like a rock and young drake getting stuck in places, going through walls and breaking cutscenes. And that was like half an hour worth of gameplay.

I was so worried the game could be that badly optimized, but did nothing of the sort once I later played the retail version on my ps3.

That's not to say BTW won't run like shit on WiiU, but I would completely disregard the opinions of those playing pirated copies based on what I've just told.

...hate me...
Now we have two shitty versions of the game !

Wii U: downgraded visually and no feature on the gamepad to not compete with the Switch version
Switch: bad performances because it's just a port from the Wii U version ...

Nintendo isn't Nintendo anymore

How lucky that the game is universally praised then.

Seems like Nintendo is still Nintendo hun 💅🏻

Sounds like the large scope, poor Wii U hardware, 2 platform development and the launch deadline have worked their toll. It might actually be the best it can be though.

It's possible, we have no idea how shitty their storage option is for their "homebrew".

These are simply softmodded WiiU's that run the game exactly as any other Wii-U. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Honestly the real disappointment is that the Switch version seemingly didn't receive any graphical upgrades as far as I can see, besides resolution.

How lucky that the game is praised on one out of 2 platforms.
By all accounts Nintendo has completely failed to release a quality product for the Wii U, and its sad that they've decided to release their very last game for the system in such a poor state.

All accounts meaning one well respected publication (Edge) that had almost all positive things to say and the rest being completely unverified sources?

Not bursting anything, I don't give a fuck since I will be getting the switch version.

However, you still don't know how the game works, maybe it needs to stream data from the disc constantly and their SD cards/hard drives are slow, maybe they're lacking a mandatory patch. Maybe the game is just poorly optimized.

You won't know for sure until you see a retail game running on a Wii U this Friday.

It apparently doesn't run well with loadiine. Running it off SD like some are doing might not be ideal either. Plus you have many using methods to break region locking etc.

I'm curious how the eshop (full install) version will run vs the retail (partial install + streaming). GTAV ran better using both disc and hard drive which might be the case again with Zelda.

I get that the cave section looks worse, especially the light shafts when the door opens. But honestly it didn't make sense for the light to shine in that way. The sun never shines right into the cave from what we've seen. I do think that the blue light colouring Link is a disappointing omission. But calling it a downgrade? U don't know, we've also seen that the draw distance has improved a lot since last year at E3. If anything it seems they've optimised the different aspects more than a downright downgrade.

Lol Really?

I can't believe an adult would write things like this.

Sounds very disappointing if true, but Edge didn't say anyhing like that. Plus can the difference between 720p and 900p really be that big? All the Wii U games i have that are 720p look absolutely fine on my screen. Framerate though......

Still hyped for friday for the Wii U version but i DO hope we hear something from DF or NX gamer on thursday.

I would be over the moon if the Wii U version holds up, as that'll be the version I will get the game on (pending impressions).

But reading through the article from the OP as well as impressions from people scattered throughout this thread is not giving me very high hopes.

Honestly I am not getting a switch I am done with Nintendo for various reasons and at this point I'm happy the game is coming out at all for the wii u considering I bought the Console specifically for this game.

So fps drops, chugging, graphical downgrades etc are disappointing but I am still super juiced to pay this game

I wonder how many impressions are from people playing it through Loadiine, as the game exhibits some extra problems with that method just as Twilight Princess HD did before it.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. If you're running it from USB and SD it's bound to be worse.

It seems everyone always assume any type of downgrade would be cause of the multi systems.

But there is also a possibility the game was downgraded independently of the hardware cause well, they wanted many things and couldn't have it stable enough.. They would have just favored content and scale over details.

Pirates are installing it on the console flash storage, which should be the fastest option available from a data reading perspective.

I've read that it takes like 15 minutes for the overworld to load, which is why I think that your question has "not many" for an answer.

GAF overreacting? Well I never.

To be honest thought almost everyone was "I have to play this on the Switch or it will be hot garbage" and now people are drifting towards "Wait... I already have a WiiU".

Only 3 more days.

What? Those tweets say virtually the same thing as the last line in the OP.

Stop overreacting, we still don't know anything from a reliable source. Someone mentioned there is a Day 1 patch coming for the Wii U version and since DF didn't have the kind of framerate problems on the Switch preview event that are reported now, I wouldn't even be surprised if the same is true for Switch as well.

Gaf gonna gaf I guess.
