I'm 5 min from Metrotown. What time are they there?Dastardly Jerks said:Any VancouverGaf heading to Metrotown tonight to see the Sedin twins at the NHL11 launch?
It has been for almost 2 years.OnPoint said:So I had a chance to play NHL Slapshot on the Wii today with fellow NHL GAFfer Kassatsu. Of course, he picked the Pens and I picked the Sabres.
The game was a hard fought battle, but Kass prevailed due to his previous experience with the game. It was 2-1 -- I scored with like 11 seconds left to make it look respectable.and more so, I suspect, having better hockey game skills than mine
The game itself was pretty fun. The controls would take some getting used to -- I constantly checked when I meant to shoot -- but it wasn't bad by any means. The players might not look like their real-life selves, but there are reflections on the ice now. Take that 2K Series.
All in all, best hockey on the Wii so far (unless Blades of Steel is on the VC and I somehow overlooked that).

I'm really on the fence with Slapshot. I might wait to pick it up.
Hey, me too. I can't really spare 4+ hours tomorrow night though, school is kicking my ass right now.Socreges said:I'm 5 min from Metrotown.
Too bad Lolongo isn't going to be there. You could give him some pointers.Dastardly Jerks said:Yeah sorry, meant tomorrow. I want me a Sedin photo op. My buddy and I are going after work (from Granville) tomorrow night.
They've made the playoffs 5 of the last 6 years. Only 3 other teams have done that. they've far and away been the best team of the last expansion. havent won a playoff round, but they probably gave chicago their toughest test outside of the finals, wings fans might even say the same from 07-08. oh and they play in the western conference, where hockey is, just betterGuileless said:I know they made the playoffs, but I just can't make myself interested in them. I want to follow a team in a real hockey city.
Guileless said:I've now totally given up on the farce that will be the NBA season. (Plus I live in the Grizzly TV market, which should be explanation enough.) I'm going to follow hockey in 10-11. I've been to one Predators game about ten years ago, and the last time I watched much NHL was back in college in the late 90s. I started watching when I was playing NHL 94 every day and was captivated by the Rangers winning the cup. So a nominal Rangers fan, but now I live in the Predators TV market. I know they made the playoffs, but I just can't make myself interested in them. I want to follow a team in a real hockey city.
I need an interesting East Coast team to follow. Any suggestions? I'll be getting Center Ice so it can be any team. I just need east coast because I don't stay up late enough to consistently watch a west coast team. I don't want to watch the Rangers because of the Dolan stink (I live in Memphis remember. No longer want to follow team run by an idiot.)
Also any good book recommendations about the modern NHL?
If you want an interesting East coast team i think you should take a look at Tamba Bay, But since you want a team in a real Hockey market that shouldnt be an option though:/Guileless said:I've now totally given up on the farce that will be the NBA season. preds should actually be an interesting team to follow this year. shipped out aging, concussion prone arnott and brought in the younger and faster lombardi, who many had pegged as the #1 center available in free agency. preds are a work etchic/heart and soul type team, while they'll miss arnott's shot, the speed and two way play of lombardi is a great fit in their system. the kid's have got to step it up this year and we've got some great prospects and probably one of, if not the, deepest defensemen prospect pool in the league.
the real hockey city i can't argue preds-age shall remain an army of one!!
must be, see also: titans choking against the ravens a few years backGuileless said:Thanks for the info. That is consistent performance. But the inability to win a playoff round sounds a lot like a certain basketball franchise in Memphis. Something in the water in Tennessee?
Kave_Man said:Ontario-GAF is LeafsTV just replaying the entire 2009-2010 season the last few days?
Shouldn't Leafs games be considered garbage programming as well?nourali2 said:Yeah, me and DopeyFish discussed it in the other page. Pretty neat.
I think it's just crazy how much LeafsTV I've watched this past summer. It helps that they're literally showing hockey games 24/7 instead of the usual garbage programming.

The Internet said:Just a question about NHL 2011 on the XBox 360 - do they have downloadable roster updates? And how often do they have those? Or are we stuck making all of the trades/number changes?

Yeah, apparently there's already a roster update and a patch for some problems from the demo ready to go for NHL 11.funkmastergeneral said:I think NHL 2010 had something like 10 roster updates throughout the year, including one at the beginning of the season to fix any transactions that happened between finalized rosters of the game and the season start.
Plinko said:That's another reason I usually wait to pick up the NHL series until later in the year--the league and player's association don't allow rookies to appear until they've actually played a certain number of games. I believe it's the only sport to do so.
I tried to pull the goalie so we could goto OT but the stupid EA guy came over The hockey tape they gave out for an OT win was weak though.OnPoint said:So I had a chance to play NHL Slapshot on the Wii today with fellow NHL GAFfer Kassatsu. Of course, he picked the Pens and I picked the Sabres.

I was really tempted to pick up NHL Slapshot today as well but I didn't feel like dropping 59.99 on it.
