To quote Matt Lees on twitter, "So weird that all these dudes who gleefully supported women being harassed have turned out to be... bad?"

Seriously, It always annoys me how obvious it can be that someone is a bigot, but there is no backlash until they step over some very specific thin line where now everyone is ready to acknowledge it.

Here's another one:

JT: Let's say the French see an influx of Islamic immigrants, who come in and say: "You don't give us enough handouts", like, "you're being racist", and they are rioting - what are the French supposed to think?

D: I don't know! I'm not French, I'm American, we were talking about America! Why are we going overseas again?

JT: But it's all intertwined! It's the same situation, they just speak a different language. I don't know why this is so hard for you.

D: Because it's not the same situation. Those countries are in dramatically different situations. You can't compare them.

JT: That's like you saying a man ate a sandwich in France and a man ate a sandwich in America, but these are not the same situation.

D: We're not talking about a basic thing like eating and consuming food! We're talking about the complex interactions and crossraods between culture and demographics and economy and geography. These are very high-level social issues that manifest themselves in far different ways across countries. We're not just talking about eating food.

JT: You speak pretty, my friend, but you haven't convinced me.
This is from the livestream right?

This always seems to happen on a YouTube channel for kids doesn't it? These people never grew up and their casual racist slurs turned into twisted views of the world.

Regardless, some of the shit he said, you don't just shake (or maybe you do, seeing Glenn Beck's arc) and in the long run it's going to bite him in the ass.
His, weren't the kind of casual "Oh damn PC culture has gone too far" remarks that most people would shrug off.
He went balls deep in this rhetoric, and i think that cuts out on his mainstream appeal.
And his videos are very easily digestible by a large audience, it's not MDE style stuff, which is abrasive to begin with.

He stands to lose a lot from this, i think.

I don't think a vast majority of his viewers will ever even hear of this, dude. Unless this hits really mainstream media.

Well it was a problem for PDP, and i think Jon did far worse.
He can probably retain most of his core fanbase, but expanding beyond that could be a problem if people start to signal boost and decry his views and shit he said.

Could mean getting dropped by sponsors or not get space on a bigger channel/outlet (be it TV or whatever) because of it.

The problem is, nobody's gonna talk about Jon's hideous views. PewDiePie is on a whole other level of popularity compared to Jon. Come to think of it, when PDP got cut off by his sponsors, they even talked about it on a news segment on French radio (that's how I first learned about it). He's thatbig.

Jon's career won't be affected in the slightest. People are still gonna support him, whether because they won't know about what he said, or because they agree with him. And that's the most depressing thing about it.

This, I wouldn't know if it wasn't for neogaf.

There is a Bureau of Justice Statistics. I checked their articles on homicides but couldn't find any data regarding homicides by race and income level in the same chart. I did find this series of charts showing "rate of violent victimization" per race, income level and residential area. Shockingly enough, it doesn't support JonTron's claims.

Edit: Or I guess this is showing crimes victimized by rather than committed?

Isn't that about victims? (Hence the word victimization?).

So I am a bit out of loop regarding totalbiscuit. Is he a total fuckstick or what?

He's got one foot in the pool but swears that he's above it all, despite uploading two awful commentaries on it where he basically just peacocks about his audience size, how he doesn't give a fuck, and how bad Gawker is.

I hope it turns out that he didn't watch the stream bit. If he did and still went ahead with the soundcloud crap, then he is indeed a fuckstick.

I don't know how he can lecture people about rabble-rousing with a straight face when that's basically what he built his YT channel on. I guess it's okay to go after devs but if you want to get a condemnation of full blown racism... that's gonna take some time in TB's world.

Like legit, I've learned that Destiny has traveled beyond America (that StarCraft worldwide traibing) but has Jon ever stepped foot in another country let alone outside his house (the dude somehow lives in diverse NYC)?

Yeah I edited, I checked their articles on violent crime and they all seem to be regarding victimization rather than crimes committed.

When did Jon support women harrassement?

J: "You speak pretty my friend but you haven't convinced me ... Look, you can speak flowery language about all this stuff..." (approx 1:13:30 in the YouTube video)

Interpretation: I'm too dumb to understand what you're saying.

---------------------------------------------

J: "Have gotten rid of discrimination in our western countries. That's fine, that's great."

D: "No, no we haven't! What do you mean?!"

J: "If you don't think we've gotten rid of discrimination you're living in a fantasy land."
(approx 1:14:30 in the YouTube video)

I think this is my new favourite Dumbest Thing Jon Said in the video. There's a ton to choose from but this might be the most obviously nonsense.

Well he said to Destiny he has been to Iran once (stated elsewhere it was when he was really young).

But he mostly uses his Iranian background for jokes and isn't really too into it (no way he actually knows Farsi). Which is fine, it's just that it's weird he uses it as a defence when he never really cared for it in the first place.

It's basically just him deflecting and trying to make it about a Gizmodo article and the evil media trying to come after Youtubers.
Someone should drill it into their heads that the reason why is that Youtubers are now big enough to become under scrutiny of the media.

If they think this is bad then they shouldn't have worked so hard to get popilar.

Honestly makes you wonder if JT has very specific understandings of negative concepts that allow him to avoid considering himself as affected by them, but to anyone outside him, they clearly apply. In a similar fashion, he's not 'racist' in his view because he hasn't actively screamed slurs at or tried to lynch someone, even while he has prejudices against people on the basis of their ethnicity, race, or religion.

Moved to the ethnically diverse city of NYC from his just as ethnically diverse (if not more) diverse home state of California to advance his career as an international entertainer.

Dude is a shining example of the immigrant success story in America and he wants no one else to experience it, not even someone who might have the exact same background as his Iranian father.

What a selfish human being.

What bothers me more than him being a dumb racist fuck is the idiots defending him and pretending it's about "balance" or "neutrality". The worst of which is "he shouldn't lose his job guys!!!"

What, bigots are required to be supported financially at a governmental level by "right" leaners now? Sounds like communism to me.

The market is always right and should decide everything but which racists keep and lose their jobs.

Yeah, I've noticed a certain element of the current crop of racists is VERY careful to not use certain words. Can't be racist if you don't specifically say the N word. Take that, liberals!!

Just going to post this because some people keep mentioning how H3H3 called out Jon on his actions once before. This is 100% sarcasm.

I'm just listening to TotalBiscuit's SoundCloud conversation on this now. Basically he skirts around anything Jon says other than briefly saying he doesn't agree and some of it is clearly wrong before putting like 28 minutes of effort into bashing Gizmodo. He even says that far-right extremism has risen in part because of bullshit from "Old Media".

EDIT - oh my god; near the end of the video he says that with concerning political issues in the modern landscape we shouldn't waste concern on comments from someone like JonTron. So basically a complete dismissal of what's said because there are bigger things to worry about.

EDIT 2 - and at the very end he closes off the video by saying Gawker Media are a bunch of bullies and suggests this article was made for this purpose only. What fucking nonsense.

What i'm talking about is further growth, though.
He has well produced videos, he could've been bigger than he is, i think.

Anyone else?

I have subbed to Destiny but if most of his stuff is MOBAs or online games I'm not sure how much of his content I will actually watch.

I genuinely don't mean this to body shame him or to point fingers, but from my own experience:

You'd think that someone who... is no Adonis... would have experienced discrimination because of his appearance himself.

His absolute lack of empathy is extremely alarming.

Jontron is getting eviscerated on his own subreddit right now. It's pretty glorious.

(Especially since I kind of expected the opposite. It's reddit after all.)

That is the curse of the self-confident (or the self deluded) who find some success in life, and assume others who are minorities, non heterosexuals, women, or not experiencing a societal priviledge - don't need a helping hand, or a change in attitudes to see similar success.

That subreddit got brigaded by /pol/ and /r/the_cheeto so the mods decided to lock posting and relegate all discussion to some megathreads.

If there's one thing we can take from this debate with Destiny, it's that there's no longer any discrimination in the US.

We did it, guys! WOOO!

TotalBiscuit's manner is pretty painful. It's like pure, filtered smarm. Plus dat weird Americanised English accent.

His point about how little Gizmodo waited for comment is valid, but it's irritating that he's deflecting any criticism of the actual article to Gawker politically and how they handled the creation of the article rather than what JonTron said.

I can't believe he's just not talking about JonTron at all.

So on point

His old newgrounds and YouTube account was "TheOnionKing". People are basing it off this: http://i.imgur.com/u3f0d.jpg

TB first SoundCloud was very preachy. Like baptist church preachy. I believe around the 15 minute mark you can hear how his speech patterns start to follow a certain tempo.

Carefully paced. Pause. Say your last line. Repeat the last word you just said. Repeat with the next thought.

I called out H3H3 around October when he started showing signs of GG and alt-right humor. And now he gives out passes to people to make anti-Semitic "jokes" because he is Jewish. That's now how it works. I can't hand out Black cards.

Hmmm, /pol/ and /r/the donald are rushing to his defense, could this be a sign of how his shitty attitude is drawing a certain fanbase and highlighting that he is actually a shitty person?

Nah that can't be it, both sides are bad, it's just his opinion you gotta respect it.

Apparently the whole Americans think someone is smart even though they're saying something stupid because they have have a British accent is actually thing...

So expect people to push TB as some calm and reasonable messiah.

All i can think of while reading that is how close this is to the origins of Voldermort.

Every villain comes from somewhere. The more we can recognize why people adopt the beliefs they do is precisely how we change them. Believing that people are inherently evil/stupid/horrible and unchangeable just means that we'll never have real, lasting change.

TotalBiscuit's podcast was like a bowl of ice cold water to me.

He is right. JonTron's views lack factual foundation and he is absolutely wrong in almost all of the things he brought up in that talk with Destiny, but that does not give me the right to be part of a witch hunt.

H3H3 has done good staying the heck away from this debacle, though, which is on another level. (Although posts right above don't sound great...)

I remember seeing a video H3H3 made about how feminists trigger him and I was like "People on GAF think this a is a cool dude?" I heard of him first through a GAF thread BTW.
