Immigrants in general always have whether literally by building our railroads, tunnels, bridges, factories or other physical items or from technological advances they discovered. You can even look back as recent as WWII for pretty big technological progress from people who were escaping persecution in their home country. Even the disparaged whites that weren't considered white until decades or more later build a lot of what is now America. Immigrants and slaves and those lower down in the rungs of society have constantly added the most to our country but yet those are the ones we are supposed to have the deepest hatred for.

The Ghostbusters video's (undeserved) backlash was probably enough to keep him from ever speaking out about anything "political" again. I like to imagine he's doing better things with his time like raising his disabled daughter (which he raised a bunch of money for her operation, if I'm not mistaken).

I mean, is that really hard to understand? A lot of people use those terms and have always used those terms to mean something entirely different than what people get offended by today. They're not literally saying "haha, I hate retarded/autistic people", hence it not being malicious. Not saying they should be throwing the words around, just saying it's gonna take time for them to go away and that dismissing this destiny guy for using them a few times is probably a bit extreme.

Did you actually listen to the "rant"? Watch the video again. There's nothing anti-women about it. People turned him into a scape goat during the height of all the gamer gate sexist horseshit. James Rolfe is a wonderful person with a goddamn heart of gold.
As for him being a "phony". He's married, has kids, and makes all his videos pretty much solo. He does the production, writing, directing, and filming. His setup is way different than most youtubers that are just talking heads. He doesn't have the time to play new games, and films were always his first love anyways.
That's why Mike and Ryan are on the channel, they play the new games so James can devote his time to his passions. Take a look at his video about the last monster madness, it takes him about a full year to complete one of those projects, so he had to stop so he has time for other things.

While I didn't say anything regarding half of the points you made (heh), of course I watched the video. It might very well be I've been reading too much into it, since, as you said, it was at the height of all the gamergate horseshit. Again, it's mostly a feeling and I'd love to be wrong since I normally love the guy.
James' opinion wasn't even a political thing, it was just blown out to be. James just stated in the video he refused to watch the movie and nothing else really.

You're not associating with them, dude. There are hundreds of millions of people who play video games (and are thus, to some degree, gamers). There are vocal extremists in everything. If you're religious, would you stop associating yourself with your religion because a vocal minority are using it for bad things? You could use this argument for any group of people or somewhat larger size, any association, any ideology, hell, even the entire mankind itself. Do you you want to stop associating yourself with humans because there's a vocal minority of humans who say (and do) very, very bad things? It's silly.

FWIW, many of the NormalBoots people aren't in line politically with Jon. PBG is the most notable example. Not sure where the DYKG guy stands but it's worth investigating before you start dropping people.

I think that's the root of his ideas. He simply doesn't see that minorities are still discriminated against on a daily basis. So he just thinks that when people call attention to that discrimination, they're incorrectly blaming him (and white people) for something that doesn't exist. If no discrimination exist, then all problems the minorities face are caused by themselves.
He's pretty far off the deep end. But listening to him makes him seem more pathetic than hateful. He still is willing to talk to others about his ideas, so perhaps he can also be swayed by facts and get back on the right track. I would hope so. :-/

Also, that line, thats like the crux of his problem, because hes half ukranian (i think he said that right) and the other half iranian, who can be quite light skinned, he sees himself as fully white. Sure with a name like Jon, going around the world anyone could think that, hell I thought so too until he said he wasn't and then I saw his last name. This sort of hiding of his diversity of course leads him to believe some of this shit he spouts, cause it seems he never actually had to experience truly overt racism because of his skin.
