Having a Banderas moment

Wait, I've got it. Since they realised it would be the fourth major entry in the franchise, they went all in on the Voyager homage.

This thread is comedy gold, I laughed so hard
And honestly, as a ME fan, I am kind of depressed: the original trilogy was nothing like this.

After playing BoTW, and Horizon, I don't think I'll be able to tolerate this level of jank. I'm interested to see how it is received critically considering the early feedback has been tepid at best.

The Witcher 3 has facial animations that are clearly still "video game", but they are still quite expressive. Horizon does this weird thing where it's half "video game" and half "realistic", so it looks ridiculous more often than not. It does a great job with everything from the bottom of the nose up. Mouths though? Mostly awful.
Horizon facial animations are not terrible in my opinion, do they suffer from a form of uncanny valley? Yes. Terrible? No.

These problems seem like something PC modders can fix. Replacing the eye textures would go a long way to fixing some of these uncanny valley issues.

It would be uncanny valley if the mouths looked semi realistic, but they don't. They move like rubber puppets. They don't look almost human below the nose at all. They have super expressive eyes, and sometimes decent forehead animation, but that's about it.

Every time I see that Pingu lips comparison one, it fucking kills me.

I really hope they do some kind of minor patching for it because there is no way I will be able to un-see it when I play.

Didn't someone from bioware say they would patch the pingu lips? Or was it just someone who said that bioware had said they would? I can't remember :/

It's like they decided to avoid mocap and manually animated movements using an inexperienced new hire.
