Media Create Sales: Week 10, 2017 (Mar 06 - Mar 12)

Not really.

Otherwise it seems that sub 1M sales are expected.

It still has a chance to barely cross the million mark first week. Maya-san reported a big increase on pre-orders from the last week.
I think the expected range should be between 900k-1050k.

Yup, that sounds about right given the usual drop for G versions.

But really makes that 2m forecast from Capcom a bit puzzling. I do think it'll get there eventually, but in just two weeks?

I wonder if they were planning to release it earlier in the month, but ended up delaying it because of a certain console.

It probably won't outsell it at launch because of install base at time of their respective releases, but it's definitely going to outsell it long term. I mean it's freaking portable MK8 versus not-portable MK8.

it's still a port. Mario Maker 3DS outsold the WiiU game, but not by much, and on a much bigger installed base. The games were also released closer to each other (as in: MM WiiU had less time to be an exclusive)

However, if Nintendo plays their cards right and actually waits a little more than usual before releasing another Mario Kart on Switch, it is true that the WiiU version might be outsold after a while.
We'll see, I guess :)

Looks like the guy who always get his video game magazines early is teasing an announcement for a Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth sequel in this months issue of V-Jump. Apparently loads of DQ11 screenshots too, so hopefully things pan out :)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Nojima Online took 10 minutes to sell out of their latest batch of Switch hardware https://twitter.com/ENETJP/status/842672595170340864

Too much, 9 minutes is the sell out time for something that sells well, but 10? Everything sells out in 10 minutes, flop confirmed.

Seriously though, how big is Nojima Online as a retailer? I also wonder how big of a re-shipment they could've got.

But Mario Maker 3DS was an inferior port with removed features, I know that stopped me from getting it, it still did pretty good.

I expect a true Mario Kart 9 with the inevitable 2nd version of the Switch, if they make it more portable or beefier only time will tell.

I wanted to update with photos, but the photobucket doesn't work at the moment.

I've just checked Bic Camera in Shinjuku and obviously, Switch is sold out. They have a notice with new stock arrival on Sunday 19th. But again, it will be just raffle units. From 9 to 10, pick up tickets time, at 12 the results and from 12 to 16 the time to buy Switch for the winners.

Yodobashi Camera was even in a worse situation, they don't have stock, and neither any notice about when they will recieve a new shipment. They don't let constumers to take Switch's pre-orders.

The situation seems worse than the past week. No improvement should be expected.

Maybe Nintendo is waiting for next week, since Monday 20th is a national holiday and the start of spring vacation for students. Also, the Splatoon 2 Splatfest is the same weekend (25th-26th), so they should have ready more units for these events.

But for the moment the system is still completely sold out and the situation is not better than the past days.

In theory there are 2 more weeks with shipment determined from this FY forecast, this and the next one. The weekend of the 3rd week marks the beginning of April.

Welp, from what can be read in the community thread, SK PBS will have really poor legs (or worse than usual)... At least
the next game is teased in PBS
I guess.

Why's that? Is the game crap?

It doesn't sound particularly good yeah. A bit of jank, bad balance, bad AI, and the characters (DLC or not) have no different stats, it's just the weapons. Netcode doesn't seem good too, but tbf, that was the case in previous games as well.

What was the reason why someone would expect different stats on the characters themself?

You could level up your characters in other games and they had different stats. That counted a bit for the multiplayer of EV for example.
But those games have locked weapons to each characters, doesnt they? Maybe people thought it was like this in this game too, then it makes sense. Trailers looks more like a "standard" shooter i think (as in weapons not being locked to specific characters).

Well, at the very least it got off to a good start with first shipment being sold out and digital version topping 10K on its first day.

Now that PS3 is officially discontinued, it seems people started to buy some units and now is sold out at Rakuten.

In five minutes, SHIBUYA TSUTAYA opens. There will be an event at 10:00am.

EDIT: MHXX on Switch.
Kojima didn't deny it

Well, I'll probably regret doing this, but here's what he actually said, via Mochizuki (WSJ)

@mochi_wsj

Capcom didn't deny Monster Hunter on Switch. I asked if it's coming to Switch, and Mr. Kojima said "Hope you enjoy it on 3DS first."

Yep, two tweets about it from Mochizuki: 1 & 2 (edit: whoops beaten)

Wonder when they'll reveal it. Is there any event in Japan in the coming months that would make sense (before TGS obv)?

Maybe during whatever country-agnostic Direct-style event Nintendo will hold during E3 (a la Switch January event).

The photos that I couldn't upload before.

Bic Camera:
Switch new shipment will be sold as raffle units on Sunday 19th (抽選にて販売致します)
PSR VR will be also sold as raffle units on Saturday 25th.
Yodobashi Camera just have the Switch console sold out and no notice or chance to pre-order.

I wonder if the switches strong early sales will influence capcom at all. It's clear that the switch is going to perform very well in Japan and i don't think they will want to miss the bandwagon. If sales are slumping as much as expected maybe they should try and jump on the switch whilst it's the hot ticket in town.

Looks like Game Freak are hiring "motion modelers" for a consumer game project. Their job will include creating models of deformed cel-shaded humans, monsters and items. Candidates are required to have experience in modeling "WiiU/Vita class" human character models using Maya.

It begins...

Some days before E3, Capcom should announce something via Direct.

I dunno, my money is on a September reveal, but maybe I'm wrong. Before E3 would be early (less than 3 months)... though I guess 4G was announced roughly 4 months after vanilla version, so...

By the way, Kojima's comment about 3DS first wasn't just a goof or anything, he said the same to Famitsu when they told him some fans wanted to play on Switch:

――ちなみにファンの方からは、Nintendo Switchでも遊びたいという声があるようですが......。
小嶋 まずは3DSですね。

So, yeah, there are two major scenarios that could happen, and they involve the West as well.

The game came out today, so we won't hear about "main-MH" games for a while, since Capcom is trying to sell XX as much as possible; any official news of a subsequent release could impact its sales. Also, it would be a curious decision from Capcom (and Nintendo) to not bring XX in the West as well, since the most recent installments sold pretty well in our region. But...how could they bring it? And how it could impact Japan as well? Basically, here's the two possible scenarios

1) In a few months, Capcom will announce Monster Hunter XX HD Version for Switch, with a release slated for this Holiday in Japan, including bundles and all the usual jazz. At the same time, Capcom announces the Western release of MHXX on both 3DS and Switch, maybe simultaneous with HD Version in Japan, maybe a few months later. This would be a pretty similar situation to what happened with Monster Hunter 3G (3 Ultimate for us): a game that had to wait a while to see its Western release because Wii U's SKU was holding it.

2) No announcement in Japan, but MHXX is announced in the next few months (Direct, E3, whatever) for the West. 3DS-only, since Capcom would just bring the Japanese game over here. Probably this year as well, since 2018 would seriously be too late and would damage its sales potential.

Long short story, we'll have to wait and see if there are MH Western announcements in the next few months, I think there could be a possible link between a Switch version and the game's Western release if no announcement is made, let's say, until September / October.

Also, as a corollary, am I the only one who believes Capcom could give to Monster Hunter Stories another go? Not a sequel, of course, but a G version. I could also see that G version being the one released in the West, either for 3DS (probably Nintendo would directly publish it, opposite to what Capcom does with other MH games - remember how they have "more surprises" for 3DS coming this year? ) or as a 3DS/Switch multiplatform everywhere. I mean, we're speaking of the same company that has given to a massive flop like Gaist Crusher a second run with its own G version.
Actually, honest question that is quite inherent: is the anime still on / renewed for a second season? Genuinely unaware of how it's doing, of if it's sill on. That would obviously change things :p

I don't see the point of bringing MH XX 3DS to the west at this point tbh. So likely announcement for Switch version in Japan first, and then quickly said at E3 or whatever for the West some weeks later.

edited but was in response to Mpl90.
MH XX 3DS. As in, if there is a Switch version of MH XX indeed made for this fall, there would be no point in localizing the 3DS version as well, especially since we got X (Generations) in the West on this platform.

Hellraider

Member
Since the moment they announced X/Generations for the West I have felt that the plan is to release XX as a cross-platform title and have only the Switch version make it in the West.

It wouldn't surprise me if both versions come out after all, too. 2017 will still be a viable year for the 3DS.

I expect Monster Hunter on Switch by the end of the fiscal year. Nintendo seems confident in the system based on the production increase. Either that or Pokémon. Or both.

I don't believe Capcom has missed a fiscal year since the series started, so that's probably a safe bet, unless people are expecting yet another 3DS game.

As Nirolak said, I don't believe there are any doubts when it comes to when the next MonHun will get released. There definitely is going to be one this fiscal year. The questions are on which platforms and what it (they?) will be like.

We should also not forget about Stories, like Mpl90 said. If Gaist fucking Crusher managed to get a G version, stories should have no difficulty in getting one as well. Add to the fact that the potential G version would still be outsourced like the vanilla was (again just like gaist crusher) and the anime will still be running for another 6 months and chances for a Stories G game get pretty high.

I also find suspicious that 8-4 didn't do Generations but that's tinfoil hat category. :p

What about PS4? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Given Capcom's statements, I'm expecting it on both. Probably PC and maybe Xbox too.

They have two mobile games next fiscal year to boot. Very global strategy for a series they've said they want global success for, and are actively taking measures to ensure it.
