Conor McGregor and Floyd have agreed to terms on a fight

As much as I love watching Conor fight his Cardio is indeed rather poor and is gonna be his biggest problem. Not that he's a boxer of Floyd's level anyways but that Cardio in the later rounds is really gonna be what does him in

Yeah, he'll have to go all out in the first 3-4 rounds and hope he gets very very lucky. I call a TKO in Mayweathers favour in rounds 6-8. Still 50 to 1 for a Conner KO win in each of the first 4 rounds, so worth a few quid just in case he lands a lucky shot.

He finished him with BJJ but the setup was with strikes.

No it wasn't. They were standing, Conor lunged for a takedown, Nate took control from there.

The setup Nate did was all on the ground, which has zero relevance to how a boxing match might go.

Nate touched Conor up a bunch in the second round because Conor had gassed completely after the first. It'd be a little strong to say Conor gave up in the second, but it was close, and the conclusion (regardless of form) was sort of inevitable after watching the start of that round. I remember we were all in some shock at how much he had gassed out and how all of a sudden he was just eating Nate's punches, not even because of technique issues it would seem, but literally just standing there from being dead tired. I can think of several other fights that went similarly, though Rory Macdonald-Lawler R5 certainly jumps to mind. Biggest difference in the second fight to me was just Conor being way smarter about his cardio, and it was still a reasonably close fight.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
The thread title should change to McGregor and Mayweather agree to fleece fools of their hard earned money.

Wonder if Floyd would take a dive for a guaranteed 3 big pay days rather than 1

The rematch and trilogy fight would do mega numbers

A matter of if Floyd cares more about a huge payday to go out on or an undefeated record for his legacy

What? Formless is absolutely right. Conor gassed, slowed, dropped his guard and was getting tagged with hard shots by Nate, which prompted him to go into panic grappling mode and get submitted.

Undefeated has done more for his earning power. It brings a lot of attention to his Promotion/Camp. Every dude there wants to be the next Mayweather, undefeated and super paid.

He's not going to keep unretiring forever and he spends WAY too much to coast one payday. He eventually wants TMT to sustain him, so he'll hold on to undefeated for the talent it attracts more thsn anything.

This is a very real possibility. I can totally see Mayweather doing this so he can cash in even more on a rematch.

Floyd's not going to take a dive to a fuckin mma fighter. That would be the first line in his obituary if his happens. His entire career/legacy over shadowed by that one embarrassing night. Floyd wants to make as much money as possible in the easiest way as possible. Getting a name guy, who will sell the fuck out of a fight, yet won't be as much of a threat as a traditional top ranked boxer is like the best of both worlds for him.

Why not a pure stand up MMA fight? Seems like the best of both worlds

Because Floyd is not an idiot and holds almost all of the leverage.

.

I'm not saying he will... I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if he did do something like this.

I guess so. I mean contain it to pure punching but put it in an octagon so it takes out the ring control experience, and I think we get a more interesting fight

It was probably just Conor mouthing off but...

He walked Michael Conlon - Irish fighter, got screwed at the Olympics, raised middle finger to judges from the ring, called the whole AIBA cheats, that guy - into the ring for his first pro fight in New York last night. He had a go at some reporter, told him the fight with Floyd was close, he was going to take over boxing etc etc.

But he said the fight with Floyd was close. We'll see.

People think Mayweather is going to take a dive? Can I have some of what you're smoking?

This feels like some stupid carnival attraction. I'm damn near convinced Floyd works for the UFC the way he keeps promoting the fuck out of them with his diatribe. He'll probably throw the fight and lose in some ridiculous way if this has fuck all to do with his boxing record.

I can't wait to see Floyd fight a bear next.

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
The motherfucker had a shitty upbringing, struggled in school and focused his attention on boxing over academics.

Now he's on his way to be a billionaire by the time he hits 50.

The motherfucker is pretty smart.

I had a decent upbringing, did well in school, can read...and am broke as fuck.

Can't knock that hustle.

I honestly feel bad for people like you who see money as the only measure of someone's intelligence or worth. Donald Trump has multiplied his coffers by being elected, so I guess he has a brilliant mind too. Take two steps back and you'd realize there's actually very little smarts behind an incredibly rich person becoming richer.

Floyd got to where he is through a lot of hard work and talent, but he isn't smart. He might have hired smart people to manage his money for him, but the man himself is one of the worst living examples of a sports celebrity. A vile person in every way.

He's a smart boxer. He's smart about his boxing career and how he's managed it. Being smart isn't limited to just book smarts. The fact that he's been able to take his style of fighting, which is absolutely not crowd pleasing, and turn himself into the biggest draw in history of the sport is saying something. I mean, there is no real specific metric but people don't just luck into wildly successful careers in any field without a certain degree of intelligent in that field, that's all anyone is saying I think. Also being vile and being smart are not mutually exclusive.

I'm not too well versed in boxing or MMA, but this kind of sounds stupid to me. I mean how can one call this accurate judging who is the better fighter if MMA fighter can't grab or even kick?

It's going to.determime that a professional defensive boxer can outbox, but not knock out, a non professional boxer. Expect nothing beyond that. Other than really fun trash talk beforehand. And two guys much richer after the fact.

It's judging who is the better boxer.

If Floyd were in the octagon he'd get killed in two seconds.

A lot of people think if Conor actually makes it the 12 rounds that's a failure for Floyd anyway.

Then it would just be a one-sided grappling match where the world's best boxer isn't even boxing. Who wants to pay just to see Floyd Mayweather wriggle on the ground for twenty seconds?

I think he means basically a kickboxing fight (with maybe little gloves). Floyd wouldn't do so well over many rounds in this format.

Conor wouldn't wrestle him, he would kick the shit out of him.

Essentially yall got conned into paying $100 for Floyd/Pac, said you'd never watch again, and are now getting conned into paying $200 for Floyd/Conor with same exact result

Time is a flat circle even simulations would be far too optimistic to account for

Pleaaaaaase. He would neutralize those fists as soon as possible otherwise that jab would be cutting him up all night. A couple of leg kicks and then comes the takedown.

Ninja Scooter pretty much addressed this post for me.

All I'll add to that is this: Floyd had an incredible career after several decades of boxing. He made very smart choices, became his own promoter, cultivated his own image, and then walked away with his health in tact and several hundred million invested for his children's futures. The man won at life. So many good boxers - great boxers, even - before him, ended with nothing, not even their health, and some of them millions in debt.

Floyd is young, rich, successful and he has his health. That doesn't just happen. It doesn't just happens to be by luck. It's the result of a lifetime of smart decisions.

Granted, this doesn't change the fact he has said and done awful things, of course, but like I said, regardless of what you think of him, evidently, the motherfucker is pretty smart.

So basically have Conor approach this like every other Floyd opponent? Conor should just sit back, show up and enjoy the show because he's not going to do shit but get punched and get paid. He has absolutely nothing in his arsenal to bother Floyd. No jab, no reach and size. Floyd sleepwalking to UD12

Even in a boxing match Mayweather will lose easily. He is not so good anymore, old, soft punches. I'm sure even I can take him easily.

And I'm willing to prove it. I don't even ask for 100 million to do so.
5 million for the attempt will do just fine.
