Gran Turismo Sport Beta Thread

This reasoning was discussed during the GT5 era, and it is simply not true. If you're that concerned about breaking your thumbs, you should be equally concerned about breaking any part of your hands or wrists - the best option in that case would be to let go of the wheel entirely just before the impact. It's a bad idea to hold the wheel in such a bizarre fashion the entire time just in case of an accident. Typically, race car steering requires significant physical effort, and you need the best possible grip in order to maintain control. In many cases it would be essential to hook your thumbs around the rim simply to gain enough leverage to turn the wheel in a consistent fashion. Gripping the wheel properly means you're less likely to have an accident in the first place.

Search for racing onboards on YouTube - it is extremely rare (and very strange) to see anyone holding the wheel like that. And if you look for onboard crashes, you'll see most drivers don't even let go, and don't end up with broken thumbs.

I'm far from knowledgeable on this, but I did do a rally training day and was advised not to hold the wheel with my thumbs inside do to possible accidents and breaking, Maybe that's just them covering themselves though.

Yes I think that must be where this originates. But again, a quick search through WRC onboards - none of the pro drivers do this.

I remember playing GT5 Prologue and thinking how perfect and photo realistic that was. I didnt play the final GT5 and only played GT6 in splitscreen. I will be blown away when I will get my hands into this beauty.

Youtube video on the first page makes this obvious it's a Beta I suppose. That dark cockpit and complete lack of interior lighting reminds me of some of the darker interiors in Forza that sometimes show up. That same track in the rain is a beast (first race).

Am I the only Driveclub player that isn't THAT impressed with the visuals?

I know it's 60fps, more cars, etc.

I'd still choose Driveclub over this in terms of visuals, despite the lack of better AA. The lighting, track detail, reflections are all better.

Do we know anything about FFB wheel support? Anybody try a Fanatec wheel with that adapter thingy?

Really hoping to get an invite so I can try this on my Pro. Also really interested to see if my Fanatec wheel will work.

Highly doubtful. Sony is now blocking Fanatec from the PS4 unless it's a specifically licensed wheel. The Fanatec even worked in WRC 5 but doesn't in 6, so don't expect it to work in Dirt 4 (sob.) Sony has really turned into Microsoft of last gen, this gen.

I dont like the handling model in driveclub so the choice is obvious for me

Bleh, not me. Anything more than 20 yards from the car druing daylight in Driveclub looks awful (minus snow races). Muddy distant textures, aliasing, etc...awful in Driveclub.

I do hope they add more "life" to the tracks.

Any experienced sim racer get their hands on the beta? Would love to know the physics impressions, tire model, etc. I mean, I always love that GT games have amazing graphics and lighting, but that is not what I need improved in this franchise to get me excited. GT has always killed it in visuals, it is expected at this point. They need vast improvements in so many other areas so this doesn't turn into another offline lapping simulator that feels lifeless after a few dozen hours.

But then if you look outside the track... the trees, the buildings, the people.. it still looks like fucking shit.

The cars and the lighting look almost photo realistic especially in the replays but the track looks like slightly upgraded PS3 graphics with improved textures and they haven't moved the game on as much as the cars. Just my view though, need to look at more footage.

I think that is an early build issue.

Also its different from track to track. Nürburgring is already at a good state.

- Fans reacting and you can see one in the middle following the car with his head:

- The marshals weaving flags. Car off track, first marshal weaving yellow flag then the next marshal the green flag:

Hmm yeah it does look better in these. Anyway, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be an asshole . The game looks great, but I feel like those little details on the side of the tracks have always been kinda missing?

DC is very very overrated to me. It has very blurry and an unrealistic look. Especially with the AF system they have in place. Some tracks look better than others but it's a "close up" good looking game for sure. The only thing DC has going for it IMO is more track detail and polygons but at the cost of actual texture detail (Especially in the distance)

I prefer the lighting and textures overall in GT a lot more overall, even on ps3. I am not really a fan of muted blurred out details and textures just to impress people that look at things up close and say a game looks great. Most of your time will be spent looking ahead , especially in a driving game. This is why some xbox one titles look a lot better than some ps4 games that had AF issues. It's literally worse than ps2 textures after a certain distance. Turns to a solid mesh of color and while DC isn't always that bad it's bad enough for how they implement textures into their game. I believe motorstorm has a huge huge problem for this, but for the type of game it is it's alright, one reason why I wanted HD remaster on PS4.

The really bright daytime lighting is bad in Driveclub in comparison to this, but the less brightly lit conditions are great and yeah I prefer Driveclub's visuals overall due to the dynamic ToD and weather.

If only the handling model felt as good as GT does.

Replays are league ahead of Driveclub, and one other advantage they have is the physics, seeing car behave realistically adds to the realism.

Would love to see if they get close to DC in the rain but doubt it.

Why do you have to do this? Can't we just enjoy GT without bringing in other games?

Tbh. The racing genre isnt that big nowadays so comparisons are inevitable... but something smells abt that comment. Not sure if its a stab to X1 from a PS4 fan.

It's just my opinion, not everything is fanboy related. I enjoyed Forza but I think this new GT looks way better. I can't have a comparison? People are just so sensitive about other people's comments these days. :/

Wow this looks so much better than the new Forza.

I feel like "looks better" isn't really useful when comparing GT and Forza. Forza's style is so different. GT tries to look "real" or like TV footage, Forza Motorsport makes everything look "Hollywood". If the sun is shining, it's the perfect grand day for racing, if it's raining, it's a dark grey and brooding. It does to racing what Battlefield 1 did to WWI.

Forza uses that style to keep a basically perfectly constant 60fps, GT prioritizes graphics over framerate much more than Forza(at least "Motorsport", not Horizon).
Also we haven't seen this years Forza yet.

Personally I prefer the "real" look, but I don't have a problem with Forza's "Hollywood" either. What I don't like if the "real" is overdone like in Driveclub sometimes and I no longer can see road ahead (because of sun flare, road reflection, rain etc.).

What I mean is, the difference is too much in the style, that a non purely technical graphics comparison doesn't really make sense in my opinion, because it comes down to preference. Even technically the comparison is not really fair as Forza does nearly 100% perfectly constant 60fps on 30% less powerful hardware and every asset and shader is done with that goal in mind. Can we not say that both achievements are very impressive but on different levels?

I stand corrected. Yes you can have a comparison. Sorry for my response :)

All good Edammer :) And yes TylerDurden GT looks more "REAL", that is what I meant. And why I think it looks better.

But seriously... I don't know if I will buy the new GT. I hope it's not going to be another grind fest. :)

I just can't believe how good this game looks. Are they doing something "different" with the lighting, or what's going on? I mean I have a high end pc and nothing comes close to this.

Some of yall still looking for invites but has it been confirmed or known that anyone else got in recently ? I dunno, I still check my notifications like a zombie every few hours but it ain't helping.

Any of you actually in? I have yet to see anyone post they are playing :(

I always feel it's the cars and subdued color tone overall.

The tracks here look very similar to other racers that are now out, however the cars have that PD lighting/reflections to them. I've actually found PD's gameplay tracks to be subpar detail wise (5 & 6), but the cars/weather/TOD has made up for it.

They do their full quality cars incredibly well though. Those trees are looking nice most of the time too...haha. I am/was hoping to get good Beta time in on this. Whether early or open. I don't know if I'll buy Forza 7 or GT: Sport...or both. I'll probably buy both eventually. I usually get Forza day one, but this will be the first GT on my PS4, so I'm curious how it will turn out.

Not much to talk about, only one track, I only have one car I can race in the multiplayer. I keep getting GT3 class cars as rewards, but the onlymultiplayer race is a GT4 class race.

Yeah, the beta has been locked down for sure so far. Maybe a few euro guys from this thread will get in (I have no idea as I still have no idea how they are squirting in such low numbers that a whole board like this can't really get an active member in)

I wish we were best friends so I could game share haha. But seriously, how do you feel the textures and handling compare to the past games.

If I get in I will probably play then look at the little things like AF, people, trees etc

Handling seems the same, visuals obviously improved, the stuff off to the sides visually has never bothered me in the past.

It's called artistic talent.

Crazy I know, but graphics are more than specs, gpu features and buzzwords. Knowing how to use the technology helps too.

Here's your proof.

Blah... I was hoping I could run it in G27 emulation mode, which worked great on PS3. I really don't want a Logitech wheel with it's grindy gears. Might have to get a T500RS at some point.

As daft as it sounds, one of the most important things for me in a racing game, besides how it feels to drive, is the noise.
I want to ramp up the volume and feel like i'm driving the car in my living room.

I never ever get that from GT.

has anyone got any Race footage of this with decent car noise? it either seems to be generic engine sound #48 or an overly noisey straight cut transmission noise.

Did they downgrade the trees? I'll have to check when I get home but after the first upgrade in visuals, the trees had that Uncharted 4 like Sheen to the leaves. Looked really good. Now it looks like a combination of pre upgrade and post upgrade..

So I went and did a thing and bought a G29 today... I haven't owned a wheel since PS2, and I sucked then. I'm know I'll be awful. What have I gotten myself into. These Beta vids are influential, plus I got Dirt Rally and DC to mess about in.
