Persona 5 DLC Price and Release Dates

The SE thing is completely your opinion. Considering the special edition in Japan was almost entirely digital/copy-able goods rather than actual, limited, physical items, I'm inclined to disagree. (Like it or not, the CDs have already been uploaded online.)

I much rather have a physical steelbook, bag, and plush than a collection of CDs I already have/can download, and a bunch of DLCs that are available anyway.
So... you are saying you can pirate the soundtrack and that's why it's worthless? Oh and then separately pay for the costumes.

The logic above is strange but I guess to each their own.

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?
These are really really high. Weren't they free in Japan for a while after release?

I believe besides the swimsuit, only P1 and P2 were free (or reduced in price) with Persona's 20th anniversary or something like that, and only for a limited time.

I could be misremembering though, it's been a while since I looked at Japan's DLC schedule.

I'm saying that I already own the full soundtracks for P1-4, and will soon for P5. The CD set holds no value for me personally, and anyone inclined to do so can completely invalidate all but its physical worth by illegally downloading it.

There is nothing truly "special" in the Japanese 20th Anniversary Edition other than the Artbook.

Meanwhile the Take Your Heart edition includes physical, special edition goods like the plush, bag, artbook, and steelbook. Things that can't be downloaded no matter how desperate the person may be.

Obviously I don't think they expect most people to buy them all. Seems like they are aimed for people who preferred specific games and franchises. Bless whoever is fan of everything they have to offer though XD

P4 and Catherine DLCs will be good enough for me.
EDIT: Oh god they got me, thinking about getting Izanagi, P4D and SMTIV too T_T

Yeap, it's a BS move by Atlus and Sega. However they know that people are still going to get the game and most likely quite a few will buy the costumes since this is a long RPG and having just one or two outfits for 80 - 100 hours would be quite boring. So basically they don't care.

Handling of P5 in the West is just all kinds of bullshit basically from how delays were handled to the long gap from Japanese release to the SE quality to this DLC business.

Makes one want to just wait for a used version to pop up on GameStop or Amazon. Not that I have nearly the patience for that.

Yeah it's sad to see, truly a botched launch of what is presumably a stellar game. It's not all Atlus USA's fault though, Headquarters should have let Atlus usa start translating it months before it came out in Japan.

These prices are pretty unreasonable. I would have bought all this stuff, but I can't reward this sort of chicanery. So, I will maybe just buy the Persona 1 pack and leave it at that.

I think piracy should be left out of the discussion. It's like saying that a game has no value digitally if it can be pirated. That's not the correct notion, IMO.

Also, it's disingenuous to say "I own soundtracks" so inclusion of such is not worth it. Much like DLC, there is value there especially considering that soundtracks in Persona games are quite good and free inclusion is free inclusion. Plus its a long game and since there are virtually no free costumes in the Western version, DLC for such is certainly worth something.

I can see that someone may place a higher value on the goods in American SE, but I will agree to disagree.

Oh, it's certainly not just Atlus USA, Atlus Japan is handling this game without any sort of consideration for Western gamers, which is especially galling since Persona 4/4 Golden sold quite well in the West and P5 would have likely sold even better but with all the delays and mishandling of marketing, who knows.

The Japanese LE with the amazing 5 CD music set is also.... 150 bucks or something isn't it? Lol.

Damn those prices. Would of bought them all for like £7 or something, but each ? No way

I'm sure there's enough content in the base game anyway, but hey if people buy them it helps support the persona franchise, I can't complain.

So to summarize:

- We don't get costumes in game anymore unlike the awesome selection in P4G

no more costumes at all included in the base game?? thats so fucking weak. so we're just getting nickle and dimed :( worst part is that people are just gonna eat it up so they have no reason to not do this. cheap bastards

If we actually want to compare, then keep in mind that Persona has never had "costumes" in their base releases. Persona 3 didn't. Persona 4 didn't. Costumes are always added in re-releases and enhanced ports to add more value to the product to get fans to buy it again.

Persona games without costumes in game:
- Persona 3
- Persona 4
- Persona 5

Persona games with costumes in game:
- Persona 3 Fes
- Persona 3 Portable
- Persona 4 The Golden

Atlus generally doesn't put manpower towards creating additional costumes unless there is a business justification, because they already create a ton of content in the games themselves. Costumes are extra content. With Persona 5 they are making DLC costumes because they know they can sell them. If they couldn't they probably wouldn't make them at all.

There are various casual/school outfits and butler costumes in the base game. And the swimsuit set is free.

I don't remember getting the butler outfit in base game.

I vaguely remember you do unlock the summer time school outfits when that hits in-game.

The swimsuit set and also their casual clothes were free for JP since they wear those in-game during certain scenes lol. I should boot up the game and check.

I guess I see your point, and yes, in base games there were no costumes. Still, what about the free DLCs that were released in Japan and for at least some of which Atlus is charging in the West? I guess the entire P5 release in the West irks me.

Sure, but it also has extra DLC, a better artbook and yeah, freaking 5 CD music set. This is vs $90 which has a $10 beanie plush, cheap gym bag and a steelbook.

Really? I thought it was confirmed that base P5 didn't have any costimes.

Also isn't butler costumes DLC in Japan?

Now that you mention it I do remember something like that too, but I could've swore the casual ones were unlocked in the base game instead of a seperate download. Butler one I was also pretty sure was free unlock, but might've been DLC? I'll check again later when I'm home.

WHO IS TELLING THE TRUTH?! It looks like factual information has been stolen by a phantom thief!
Found a link:
Persona Central confirming that Butler/Maid DLC was free for the 20th Aniversery Celebration via twitter.
The swimsuit DLC is also free, and rumors are casual clothes will be free too in the US.

So yeah some freebies via DLC but no costumes in the main game.

Maybe in Persona 5 Crimson?

Also there is the casual clothes DLC on the JP PSN store. There might be seasonal clothes avaliable though in game.

I think there's a valid argument to be made that the US LE isn't really value for month fro 90 bucks. I'm certainly not getting it, but realistically we have to realize that a 150 buck LE in the West isn't going to really fly. Then again, maybe it might? I guess the question is whether they should have attempted a much better package for a high price.

As far as free JP DLC goes, yeah that sucks, but the regular JP game is also 8800yen. You can say they're being stingy or whatever, but shit in Japan is just so much more expensive it's hard to compare. I would say the worst thing is definitely the long wait. With how localizations are increasingly getting timed for international launches, Atlus should have made a stronger effort towards that.

There we goes. Guess my memory failed me, I'm getting old. Hopefully Atlus USA follows the JP version and unlocks those in-game ones with free downloads.
We can only hope, lol. But US ATLUS is at the whims of JP ATLUS it seems like.

I'd feel much better if the Butler/Maid, Swimsuit, and Casual DLC were free. I'd be happy with those.

But I know I'm gonna get almost everything. Atlus got me paying them to fuck me with no lube, and they didn't even have to buy me dinner...

People complaining about paid costumes and prices when Tales fans have been suffering through this for nearly a decade now lmao.

Pretty sure they did though? By E3, most characters had already begun dubbing if I remember right. And you don't start dubbing until you have a script to dub.

Which isn't to say that Atlus Japan is without blame. A game like P5 probably would have needed to start it's localization a good year before the Japanese release for a chance at a simultaneous release.

Swimsuit set being the only free one has to be the most predictable move ever.

I'll probably buy the Persona 2 set though.

People complaining about no free costumes when Atlus included a soundtrack CD and art book for free with the base edition of P3. Free soundtrack with SMT Nocturne also. Sega Atlus is all about that paper.

so i went and checked and besides the swimsuits and the casual clothes, these should be the only extra costumes I got from playing the game. far right one is just protag's sleeping clothes and only he has that as an outfit lol. ignore morgana.

maybe spoilers

i wonder if atlus was able to enable the casual clothes as costumes without DLC cause it's kinda weird that's absent in their list. or it's going to be announced as like a free DLC for the first month or something.

also costumes are only active when you're in the shadow world

Hmmm...I probably won't be getting any of these.

Well, I'll get the swim suit one because it's free and I get something out of having my characters run around mostly nude time and again, for the ridiculousness and the sexiness in turn.

Haven't listened to the P5 soundtrack, but might've been cool to have those bgm options. I'd have liked the personas too, tbh (I really like Izanagi's design). But not going to spend that much for them.

Thing is though, usually Persona has so much style going on as a unified product that I don't think I'll miss this crossover stuff much. But yeah, too pricey by far.

Huh, so you don't see any costumes in Tokyo when running around? That's a bit unfortunate.

Overall though, I think I am just going to cancel my SE, get regular steelbook and grab a few costumes. The more I think about it the less the SE is doing for me.
