Persona 5 DLC Price and Release Dates

that's good, thanks. why not just show all of them

Atlus is weird. On the one hand they release footage from nearly every dungeon and boss fight in their PVs, on the other hand they release statements to the tune of 'don't you go posting footage/media of our game because spoilers.' and pursue extremely aggressive DMCA/content ID takedowns against people who violate the spirit of such announcements.

I suspect limiting their promotion of DLC costumes to just MC/Morgana/Ryuji/Anne comes from that two-faced stance they have about spoilers.

Atlus generally doesn't put manpower towards creating additional costumes unless there is a business justification, because they already create a ton of content in the games themselves. Costumes are extra content. With Persona 5 they are making DLC costumes because they know they can sell them. If they couldn't they probably wouldn't make them at all.

They're not going to sell much DLC at these stupid prices. Season passes are cheaper than this by A LOT.

Yeah, they would have gotten me with a Season Pass, but not the way they did this. I won't be buying any of the DLC unless there is a generous sale in the future.

Prepare to be disappointed then. I can see many fans will be paying for Persona 3 and 4 DLC at the very least and all this fanservice is so hard to ignore. And it's not like this stuff is uncommon like the Tales Of series.

I really wish Atlus would give us some more value, make it cheaper, or make a season pass. I don't know how Sega usually handles DLC so maybe they might put out a pass or discount later on? Or a bundle?

As shit as these prices are, I don't know if Yakuza is a fair comparison. That game came out in Japan 22 months before it did in NA. 7 months is a long wait, but it's nothing compared to Yakuza waits.
That's true. But they could've still charge for them and get away with it, yet the fact that they never did makes it really cool move on their side. (Yakuza fans are pretty loyal, so most of them would've bought the DLCs.)

Actually, they handled Yakuza 0 very well. They even went to extra miles and did stuff that nobody expected. Like lifting the restrictions on using the share button, which is still haunting the Japanese version. It's really weird that they are handling Persona 5 with less care, especially since it's their biggest franchise.

What sort of costume dlc pricing from another game offers more value?
The season pass for Pirate Warriors 3 was $11.99 and gave you all of these:

Alongside a completely new island for higher level players and all of the following missions:
All's Quiet on East Blue!
The Decent and Dutiful World Government
Whitebeard vs. the Sun Pirates
Heroes of the Coliseum
The Surgeon of Life or Death
World Government Mega-Showdown
Pirate Mega-Showdown
Sky Island Treasure Hunt Survival

So, yeah. $7 for a handful of costumes is pretty pricey.

Well my ears shot up at persona dlc.... And dropped down again at costumes. Personally I think this is fine, the game will just be a complete experience
until the 900 spinoffs popup

Like past Persona games, I wont be buying any of the DLC, unless its free, then I might grab them.

Still, when I bought P4 Dance, it came with some DLC. I think some where music, others were skins. Didnt make much use of the skins.

i bought a lot of the costume dlc for the japanese version and i NEVER buy crap like that

i am a complete sucker but i regret nothing

Just to live up to my end of the bargain, I checked again when I got home and found the casual costumes were in my DLC list, so it was my mistake there. So only the phantom thief outfit and the two sets of school uniforms are in the base game.

Seeing as how the DLC list didn't make any mention of casual outfits or the freebie potion starter set, hope it's the same case where they are released alongside/close to release for free.

Side note, 800 yen a pop for these DLC, so I guess the pricing is comparable.

Edit: Wait no, if I'm reading this right even the school uniform is part of the DLC together with the casual outfits. Disregard my above statement. I've made a huge discourse only to arrive back where we were, lol.

Ah shit I forgot about costumes, normally I'd wait until they're all out until I start, like with Tales games but a month is a long time...

P5 game + SMTIV BGM + Costume Set --> About 69 euros then.

I guess I will skip the DLC then, and leave it for later.

The hell is the point of putting the DLC Persona on a delayed release, weren't they all available Day 1 for Japan? I really wanted Thanatos.

It wasn't. All the stuff came in waves as well. There's more on the list I still haven't seen, like the Velvet Room and Christmas costumes.

That assumes that one actually wants to buy a large number of the DLC packs. Not saying that the prices shouldn't be cheaper (the costume DLCs should be 5 bucks max), but few people will buy them on bulk, most people will pick 1-2 of them and be done with it. That's like arguing that all the DLC for Dawn of War 2 together is over $100 (which it is, with expansions excluded) with no season pass being available for all of it (except for a heinously overpriced "complete" edition) when realistically no one buys all of them.I think they expect people will only pick up one or two of them and want the maximum amount of profit out of it. Sure, season pass would be better, but the question is whether it brings them more money than what they have planned.

Man, I gotta wait until July to play Persona 5.
Why though? Do you really need extra, thematically not fitting costumes to enjoy the game? It's not like there isn't already several costumes for each character in the game based on seasons etc.
It's all fan service cosmetic DLC, even the personas.

I usually skip this kind of stuff, and while the Persona 4 and Catherine outfits/themes will add variety, I'm not thrilled about paying for them.

What a ripoff.

And if you buy these, that means you support these kinds of ripoff practices, so shame on you.

Value is subjective, if you feel like the value is worth it for you, then go right ahead, if it's not, then don't.

I'd personally buy the Catherine set straight away, but it'd be a bummer to have to wait a month to do so.

Edit: The SMT4 set is hot too. Digging the idea of BGM stuff coming with these.

I got the JP special edition and yeah, won't be double-dipping. Not worth 7 IMO. I didn't really like changing the battle music though.

Also steered clear of the persona DLC because at least early game they make things too easy.

Good thing I like playing the first round vanilla. Hopefully by when I do a NG+ playthrough the costumes will all be out and at a lower price.

Hey look while we bitch and complain about the DLC we should be happy it's not locked up in some loot box casino esque shit and you can just buy the DLC costumes that are most nostalgic to you. Instead of appreciating the trade offs like free dual audio, we gotta complain about the DLC. Honestly I live in Canada so the price is easily $4-$5 extra and I don't mind supporting Altus.

I think I'm going to get the P3 and P4 sets (mainly because of dat music). I had also planned to buy the SMTIV and P4DAN ones, but I also expected the prices to be a bit lower lol.

Or we can continue to raise our concerns with any business model regardless of whether or not it's the literal WURST THING EVAR. If you like it, that's fine. I'm not thrilled with the setup, and to this day haven't paid for costume DLC because it's rarely at a price point I like. May we both enjoy our lives.

These month long DLC rollouts are such a dumb idea. By the time they finish releasing I've beaten the game, or am far enough into it that buying DLC would be a waste.

.

Fair enough. My biggest problem is the cost of a single costume pack (and I wouldn't be upset if I wasn't interested in them).

I guess I just expected it to be like P4 where you can just buy the extra costumes or get them in optional side content.

By some accounts, P5 is taking 100+ hours to finish. Atlus probably assumes most people will still be playing it a month later.

If they can split up the DLC and give each pack a little boost of marketing hype, more people will buy them as impulse purchases rather than if they just dumped everything at once. It may not be great for customers who want their pack of choice at the start, but it's probably a sound business decision.

The fact that the Dancing All Night DLC is all original costumes makes me think we're getting P5DAN.

Well considering DJ Taku Takahashi said he was remixing a Persona 5 song for a future Persona title is pretty telling. I wouldn't be surprised if one was announced on the 26th during ATLUS' livestream of their 2017 line up.

I won't complain about it... but I'd really rather have a P5 Arena instead. With all characters from 3-5 playable and in Gulty Gear Xrd's art style.

Atlus pls.

don't do this for me — do it for the world.

Oh man, imagine P4 characters older like the P3 gang in Arena Ultimax.

I paid for two costumes sets for the original Japanese version iirc: Persona 3 and Catherine sets maybe? you also got the battle themes so it's not just a skin. I got other sets for free too so I had some variety. It's not the first time they sell this kind of DLC Persona Q had some powerful personas DLC too.

If DLC was a standard during the ps2 era they would've sold this kind of DLC as well.

It's really annoying to not see the pound value for the dlc. Any dlc i buy will be for new game plus so the dlc schedule shouldn't really be an issue.

I'll CUT them some slack because this dlc is useless, it won't add single player content of any real worth..
But i'm not thrilled about the move in itself...

I would buy Devil Survivor costumes. Will probably get the Catherine and Raidou costume sets since they look pretty good. The Persona costume sets other than the one for Dancing are all really disappointing though. School uniforms are boring as hell. Persona 2 had so many great character costume designs and they just went for boring school uniforms? Bleargghhhh.
