Mass Effect: Andromeda |OT| Ryders on the Storm

I blew up the base instead of freeing the prisoners. And afterwards Jaal was like "oh it's ok girl, I know you didn't save them like I demanded that you do but it's cool"

Seeming lack of choice and consequence on a choice that looks big.

I did the opposite and
the lady was pissed at me in the ship, then we arrive on the planet and we're all best buddies

There are a lot of problems with this game but so far I am loving it despite those problems.

I'm excited to get out there and explore after the opening sections of the game tonight. It's by no means a perfect game, but I don't think it deserved nearly as much shit as it has gotten so far.

I'm really enjoying the multiplayer but I've had 2 crashes in the past hour. Mess. I guess I'll go back to single player.

He wouldn't talk with me afterwards citing our argument from before.
Wait when do you pick your class? Is that during character customize? Lol
Nevah!

Any time you like. Classes are basically gone. Ability selection is entirely free form, no restrictions whatsoever. In the place of classes are "profiles," sets of bonuses unlocked and levelled up by skill point placement, granting focus on play styles like classes did. Ie the soldier profile is upgraded by investing in combat abilities, and offers a lot of weapon use and combat ability bonuses.

this mp is worth $60 by itself christ

Only if they fixed the terribad rubberbanding problem. Played about 8 hours of MP in the trial, and easily more than half of the matches I connected to had some level of rubberband lag, from minorly annoying to outright unplayable. Really enjoyed it when it wasn't lagging, but that just wasn't often enough.

A boss looking FemRyder seems easier in cc?

Welp.......played the game for a couple of hours, saved and exited, then booted up the game again to find my save game gone and all of my settings reset.

Maybe I'll come back to this game later, not feeling like doing that over again right now.

Ok thanks on the classes...

But you cant use the toggle wheel and pause to issue strategic commands any more?

Strategic commands? Not in my third person shooter / sexy time simulator, thank-you-very-much.

No more commanding your troops (outside of targeting specific enemies).... they've gone full-on TPS.

Man, the bug on PC where the game freezes when you alt-tab during one of the load screens (the landing/take off scenes) is super annoying.

Gameplay is pretty solid thankfully but man these bugs are annoying.

How rewarding is exploration?

Barring that question I'm just about ready to jump in, I think. It looks like the videogame equivalent of something you'd see on Best of the Worst and I'm fine with that.

After giving up on making a male and going female during the trial, I decided to take another go at making a male with the full game. I think I've settled with something decent enough. Found myself preferring male Ryder over female one. Some of her line delivery is just a bit off at times. Male Ryder is basically Nolan North so he wins. Still one of the worst character creators I've ever had the displeasure in using in a RPG.

Seems that it being full release has helped since there is a larger playerbase. Had only one iffy but bearable multiplayer game today out of about 10. The caveat being I'm east coast so probably will have a lot of decent hosts compared to some regions.

Finally did a couple rounds of silver. So many more credits but significantly harder. Definitely need to unpack a better gun than the base shotty.

Spent an hour or so putting together a Ryder I liked, and I was reasonably happy with the result. After hearing about how difficult it was to make a good-looking white character I decided to try to branch out for once, and I'm actually happy I did:

(Sorry for phone camera pic, I haven't figured out how best to take screenshots in Origin.)

I think I'm reasonably satisfied with her, but man the complaints about animations were no joke -- my biggest problem is that she's always staring at the fucking ground. She has such awful neck posture, which makes her look depressed all the time, and makes the already rough lighting on her face look even worse.

On top of that, this is far more minor but it really frustrates me that I can't use the analog stick to rotate my characters in the menus. I feel like that's a really standard feature that these games should just have at this point. It was really egregious in character creation, when I couldn't really make the character look at the camera in useful ways, but I'm sure that's been complained about to death.

Those two problems aside, I'm having a good time with the game. Started on Hardcore but frustratedly turned it down to Normal after dying in a somewhat long stretch on the prologue planet because I couldn't save before the battle, which tilted me a lot. I'll probably do an Insanity run after beating the game when I feel much more comfortable with the controls, but Normal actually feels like a pretty reasonable difficulty.

In my opinion, not very. I've reached 100% viability for two planets, and there isn't much to find outside of enemy camps.

Just got the Tempest. Really enjoying it so far. Not nearly as rough as I was expecting based on impressions and reviews. Feels like Mass Effect to me.

I'm playing default male Ryder, sounds exactly like Nolan North. (Although I know it's not)

Seriously. I considered switching and playing as Fem Ryder just because the voice basically is Nathan Drake. It's bad enough when Nolan North is in so many games without doing an accent, but when you are paying someone to do VA and they end up sounding exactly like NN you dun goofed.

Super closeups during conversations need to stahp! That would help a lot.
After the luke-warm beginning, I'm at the Tempest and am really into the game. The problem is I need to start over because my custom broRyder looks so derp and I cant get past it, lol.

Power wheel gone hurts. I loved setting up combos with my squad.

Literally the whole reason I bought the game.

I haven't touched the single player yet and have no plans to do so until I'm satisfied with my progression in the multiplayer (and maybe after they've patched some of those annoying... quirks out).

Still enjoying my time with this game. I think I pretty much enjoy everyone of my crew with the - at this stage - almost predictable exception of Liam. OK Maybe Suvi is a bit of a wildcard but otherwise I think they are all quite interesting.

I did too. I especially miss the ME1 PC implementation, which was more suited to a mouse than any of the later games all developed by Bioware in-house.

Yep to be honest, im not the greatest of shooters, i liked the pause, assess, target, issue power/skill, unpause and destroy....

I mean it was like a huge part of the fun for me.

These decisions theyve made. so far the set peices, ships, planets look amaxing, but they make these siginifcant game play changes and its not the same ME...

Currently i am flabbergasted at these charater models and standard movement animations when not in armor.

Previous animations were so much better, wernt they? Yes, yes they were, its been a while but i played all 3 twice. Where is the dance club in this game that will be the true test. I bet there is no god damn dance club.

I'm about 20 hours in on the PC version at this stage, and I'm pretty happy I decided to stick with it honestly. The first ~5 hours were a bit up and down, but once I got near the end of the main mission on Eos I was really starting to enjoy it. It feels like a Mass Effect game to me, and the issues that are there aren't that bad as far as I'm concerned. Sure there are obviously some crappy animations, and I actually shot a Kett 200 metres into the sky, but I've hardly seen another bug. I've seen much worse in other games. It looks great on PC and Ultra settings too, not a single crash in 20 hours either.

The worst part so far is parts of the dialogue, mainly with crew members. It seems like it was written by a teenager from Tumblr. It's some of the most corny, cringe-worthy shit I've ever heard. Like the conversations with crew members can go from "Hi I'm Pathfinder" to "Can I bang you?" in two sentences. That aside, I never put much stock in the conversations in previous Mass Effect games anyway, so it really doesn't bother me that much. The rest of the game more than makes up for it in my opinion but YMMV.

Disappointing aliens so far.

Both new species we discover in Andromeda (so far for me) and both are bipedal humanoids? Angara are basically Twi'leks ffs.

After playing literally all day I'm definitely enjoying the game more.

MP, even the noob bronze level is too tough, I worry it will discourage people. It's like they expect you to just suffer and lose and slowly build yourself up. Only game I won today had a couple folks around level 8. Played maybe six games with level 1-5 people and it was a joke.

Relating to this, I really think the cover system is a big step down. MP as before expects you to make smart use of cover but it just seems so random, this auto-cover system is anything but smart. Don't take away my control.

Oh whats her wierd eyes cora and dude bro jog the same? Hrm thats werd. Maybe theyre related?

Yes Avina i want to know about immigration.

Tell me more.

The black guy squad mate is alright. But crazy eyes cora, idk about her.

I like the arm scanner and jet pack though.

Despite the jank and some seriously questionable design decisions, the game is starting to click with me. It is Mass Effect. I'm probably 7 hours or so in.

On the contrary, they basically have the voice of the most well known voice actor in the industry, without spending too much money (it's the first important role of Ryder's actor).

Also, I never again want to play a sci-fi game with "ruins from an ancient vanished superior alien race that must be figured out centuries later" trope. This is so played out at this point.

If Aliens exist, then ruins of an ancient vanished superior alien race likely exist too.
