What i mean by magnifying is that I think it's worst on the internet than what it is in real life. For the most part I see people be pretty respectful to each other in real life. I think the majority of people are against racism in real life is what I'm saying.

I just try and ignore stupid people on the internet. It's full of them.

You mean 'Until they get to the ballot box'

Well, yeah. When people have to say these things to the face of other people, they usually turn out to be chickenshits. But then the question is, what is a person's true self?
The one they offer when they have no fear or the one they publicly show off in the real world?

That's a good question. I would hope people are better than that. There is so much trolling, and joking on the internet that it's hard to tell who is being genuine or not.

Using Word Filter to replace "controversial" with "probably racist" was such a good decision.

It's amazing how people conflate freedom of speech with the idea that consequences do not apply. Never mind that freedom of speech only refers to legal and governmental matters, not moral matters. Furthermore, do people not realize that freedom of speech is an outdated and incorrect concept (relative to what we're told)? If we recognize limits in freedom of speech, then you cannot say we have freedom to say whatever without consequences.

Mhmm. I was somehow always worse at doing blood draws whenever patients said shit like that to me during the primaries. Always took a few tries for some reason

Probably not a good thing to admit to doing lol

But hey physical torture of people is cool cause the other people are assholes right?

White youth/millennials leans slightly conservative. It's just that there are a lot more non-white youth/millennials than previous generations and they push the bar to the left a lot.

That's not really supported by polling. Trump got more white millennial votes than Clinton, but less than Obama. We've also seen an increase in the number of young whites that reject the Democratic party for being too centrist and go independent. Across all ethnic groups and parties, younger voters are likely to have more "liberal" views than older voters.

There's just a lot people heavily unhappy with both parties, which can absolutely have an impact.

I had to just leave the Palytonic forums, the few people on there that are upset about this are going to kill my brain.
Don't move to a red state. There are hundreds of people I know with similar views.

I spent the last 18-ish years in a red state.
Never again, I refuse to ever live in a red state again.

Huh? I'm not very good at blood draws, some times it takes a few tries. I always have to try from the area between the knuckles on your hand because that's easiest for me.
Please be more responsible when it comes to people under you care.

Don't let them get to you, they're just trolling and trying to make you feel like this. Ignore them, they'll be relegated to the dust heap of history when all is said and done.

Do you get a bunch of people telling you racist shit in blood draws? Is it like:

"Hey, how are you doing today? So if you could roll up your sleeve, and I'm going to-"
"Blacks are genetically predisposed to crime"

Basically the TV is always on, and most people tend to watch the news. I had a few people tell me that the punishment for treason in this country is to be hung by the neck until dead.

The next time you get that one, wait until the needle's in 'em, then ask "what if the rope can't support Trump's weight?"

Come on, what Titanoboa did isn't right - but its hardly torture, its some discomfort and far less damaging than people expressing those opinions in the grand scheme of things.

idk a doctor couldnt find my vein on my forearm so they used the wrist and they missed like twice, hurt like shit

EDIT: I wasn't being racist no worries

I truly hope that Playtonic can hear all the people who appreciate what they've done over the vile noise. I for sure am going to show my support with my wallet.

The fact that channels are basically full of people saying that this was the wrong decision reveals literally everything about the wider gaming community and why companies need to stop making such milquetoast statements whenever this shit goes down.

Not directed at Playtonic, who have definitely done the right thing, but in general the larger publishers need to use their influence to shape the community towards positivity rather than the (somewhat ironically named) outrage culture that has developed.

"You aren't okay with racism? Well I'm outraged!"

Due to what people were saying here, I took a look at the steam discussion forum for this game...

Holy shit. What a wasteland. I am genuinely shaken by how many people suck. I keep feeling like I have a general understanding of how deep it goes, and then I am proven wrong again.

It is really fucked up...

To be fair the people who are angry about it are more likely to post and tweet than the people who are not... but yeah, it's fucking sad.

Cutting ties with someone over their very racist opinions and beliefs is somehow worse than the racist opinions and beliefs themselves, to some.

Yeah, the steam forums are full of shitheads, but that's true most of the time, on most issues. I do feel bad for Playtonic having to take a bunch of shit for doing the right thing. I sent them a congratulatory tweet. People should feel free to tweet them and thank them for their stance. Don't let the assholes be the only ones talking.

That's good. That's damn good. I don't need this loser tainting one of my most hyped games.

Mhmm. I was somehow always worse at doing blood draws whenever patients said shit like that to me during the primaries. Always took a few tries for some reason 🤷
That's not good. That's gross malpractice and you could (read: should) lose your job for that, at the very least.

Judging solely on the more...outspoken Rocket League players, I can't even imagine how bad. Is there any moderation on those forums?

This is fantastic advice. I think I'll write them up a letter of appreciation. What they did is a fantastic gesture of human decency and the idea that they could be punished for it is galling.

Yep, and consider commenting on their Kickstarter page as well. From the times I've seen people get mobbed, they tend to be especially appreciative of kind words.

Between Toomey & us voting Trump, I've never been more ashamed to be a Pennsylvanian, to be honest.

Nothing about this is okay. I mean, I get upset when I hear people are willing to take such destructive stances towards others, but I grin & bear it at my job(Mostly because we are required to be politically neutral & thus I'd take this stance even if I agreed w/ the client's beliefs). I'd certainly never practice malfeasance like this.

Doesn't seem like it

Steam forums are shit.

You ever wanted to see someone stan a game so hard it was against their own self interests, steam forums. You ever want to see a developer delete comments about its shit game with stolen assets it got on steam greenlight, steam forums

I agree. I'm gonna be honest, tolerant and good people need to be more of a presence in situations like this. It's difficult and it's a bit like swimming upstream in a creek of shit but honestly when the conversation and forums and tweets and all that space is solidly swamped with the shit-stains of the internet and the better people tut tut from on high (I'm including myself in that, I could certainly be more active in these things) and decry all of that...while not in those same public spaces saying these things...it lets them sort of control that space and I think that's why a lot of this shit is festering now.

The problem is they can be relentless and we simply don't want to be as relentless as them. They gather and mobilize to swarm, to flood these kinds of places with their opinions. And we don't. There are some amazing people on this website that have incredible posts and arguments and are really good at repeatedly responding to the few people like this that post on GAF but it needs to be out there in that space too. And I know a lot of people do that as well which I am eternally grateful for. Can you imagine if we all signed up and posted on the Yooka-Laylee forums thanking them, for every thread they start we started one saying we support them and thank them?

I also though, probably against the beliefs of many, have no problem lowering myself to their level as I think that assumes you can be effective or solve these issues with the more "educated" or intelligent position. And the way this world is currently, I definitely don't believe that's true.

Great suggestion. They are currently getting buried in garbage by JonTron fans. It wouldn't hurt to give them some support.

I have now officially ordered Yooka-Laylee off of Amazon. I never played the Banjo games, but I want to support developers who actually make an effort to stymie the encroaching march of xenophobia, and bigotry, in gaming communities.

Haven't you heard? Playtonic are the bigots for cutting ties to Jontron. They fired him because he has an opinion. They are censoring their own game to appeal to SJWs.

I backed the game on Kickstarter ages ago, but will have to get a new computer to play it (or get the Switch version down the line).

Not only do I not know all of the facts, but nobody can reasonably expect a guy like me (who has a LIFE, by the way nerds, way to jump to conclusions) to even brush up on a readily available summary of the situation and btw I have a right to make my very uninformed opinion heard, repeatedly

Hearing this in Jack's voice makes this flawless.

Okay, do people not realize they are responding to their friends in the opposite way of what those people want by posting about JonTron? The scariest part about this is the is almost literally nothing you or I can do to change the minds of the idiots we randomly meet on the internet.

They do. But gamers don't. If you think about the history of our hobby, it makes a bit more sense. That's why Gaf is an oasis!

I mean it's at all levels. Not just rank and file.

I'm not sure I agree with this. I think they do. Unfortunately, the GamerGate portion is really damn loud and they look bigger than they really are.

Absolutely. People need to voice their support on Twitter, forums, and other social media networks. The community supports the decision, and that support needs to be shown in full force. We can't let the haters or Josh Thomas' of Twitter be the vocal audience.

The fact that so many people are defending Jon's belief that white people should politically fight to keep their population as the majority sickens me.

I'm far more conservative than the average GAF member, but if that's a normal view among whites (I'm white), then I have been so unintentionally naive/ignorant.

=(

I got a lot of conservative views. I don't think of politics as "right" or "left" but rather "just be on the right side of history".

People like Trump or Jon Tron are just full of shit and everyone from all political sides should see this. They're not trying to be your friends, they just want to stifle progress and send humanity backwards.

Hence why when people come out to defend these assholes, they too are exposing themselves for not having humanity's best interest at heart.

Replace the concept of white in your thoughts with the concept of power and suddenly everything makes a lot more sense.

People hate giving up power, whatever form it takes.

Eurogamer put up a story on this on Facebook and the comments make me want to die. It's one thing to defend him, but to do it with your public facing profile and all that shit. The fuck is wrong with people.

That's actually the strangest part about this whole story- Jon Tron gave a measured response that suggests you may actually be able to get these people to learn if they start facing actual consequences. Maybe that's too optimistic, but I don't think any of us expected a response with even that tiny amount of humility.

If it's any consolation, I'm sure a lot of those people won't be able to be in a hospital at all soon enough.

I'm a pretty staunch librul, but I mean, that's all kinda gross of you man

Well I told a buddy of mine about this whole situation (he used to be a JonTron fan) and he had never heard of Yooka-Laylee before but liked Banjo-Kazooie back in the day, I've already helped make another sale by spreading this story.

Thanks for making this game super easy to support Jonny Boy.

They're idiots.

The internet was abuzz about the game and it being a game by former Rare devs before JonTron even got on board with this stuff.
