[SteamSpy] Nier: Automata hit 200k copies in less than 2 weeks

No, a press release about the total sales at some point in the future. Of which PC sales will be a quite nice. Duh.

I wouldn't expect a press release anyway. I would maybe expect it as an aside statement when announcing dlc or that Nier remaster that we all want, damnit!

Wouldn't we probably get sales numbers when SE releases their report for FY2016-2017 since this game is still part of it? I think it would be released before E3?

The most surprising thing is that as far as I can tell a lot of those copies weren't day one sales. It's been selling quite strongly every day since release which is not always the case. Glad so many people are playing this great game

Is there any chance that some Atlus/Sega exec is checking SteamSpy at the moment?

Lol.
Valkyria Chronicles released 2½ years ago and has 900k owners now. Their response was Sonic Lost World a year later. Then, crickets.
They have the numbers themselves without having to check other companies. They're just incompetent.

I agree.

Incompetent is the only word capable of describing SEGA right now (regarding PC, of course).

That's great for the team and SE for taking a risk on this title. Also comment about FFXV is pretty on point as well. Even if they release the "complete" version next year it's not going to do nearly as well as releasing simultaneously or at least within couple of weeks to the console release.

SE might have lost tens of millions $$$ revenue because of that. Now, it's somewhat understandable given that the were focused on shipping the game but one would think if they had resources for Xbone port, why not PC.

Considering Nioh was able to do 230k in NA without digital alone, I'm guessing PS4 overseas sales should be around 500-700k in total.

Add PS4 Japanese sales: 300k
and PC sales : 200k

Nier is most likely already 1 million+

Pretty sure that Nioh number included digital.

Wow amazing and so deserved! It's great Square didn't give up on the franchise after the first title. I hate how easily IP can be written off these days

Assuming that most people bought the game on Steam and I don't think thats the case there.

That isn't true. Most of the other online retailers eat into their own cut for cheaper prices, where squenix still sell at the same price. Regions with the significantly lower prices are region locked for this game iirc.

I hope this leads to more IP ideas from Taro not just more Nier, these sales are impressive.

The Nier / Drakengard universe isn't that much of a constraint - just looking at Nier, D3 and Automata back to back shows the breadth of concepts it can support - and the backstory in Grimoire Nier provides even more variety. If it's necessary to tell the story he wants, I'd not object to a wholly new IP; but I'm not sure it's completely necessary to step away from the vague umbrella of the Nier / Drakengard world(s) when they're so flexible and could function as a useful brand to tie together several very different games that are united in their unorthodox narrative approaches.

I agree with what you're saying and I for one would love more games in that umbrella but I wouldn't mind something potentially brand new with its own universe.

Hypothetically speaking if he even wants to do something a little different.

Great news, just wish they'd at least gotten one patch out by now to fix some of the issues.

Put. Vanquish. On. Steam.

I've lost all hope on any of Platinim's older library coming to Steam, Sega will just end up porting another old Sonic game nobody asked for.

Feb numbers for Nier's digital sales in Feb (5 days) add a further 38k to the total, so its definitively north of 300k units in Japan now.

Ridiculously good for an install base of 4.5m PS4's.

I'm pretty sure we mentioned this 1000 times on gaf by now but..

all.3rd.party.japanese.games.should.be.on.pc

The demand keeps growing and growing.
Atlus and Sega said no to so much money, it's unbelievable. Management should be fired.

Square-Enix is pretty timely with sales on games outside of their Final Fantasy archive catalog. Noer Automata has a good shot at 500k on PC within the next year or so.

It is extremely obnoxious how people keep insisting on this.

It's a weird case. It's pretty broken out of the box because of the fullscreen bug, but a simple fix makes it a generally well running port. Overall I'm having a very good experience with it, so calling it a bad port doesn't seem appropriate. It runs way better than Dishonored 2 when it came out, for example.

On the other hand, it really should be able to display at1080p without an external program.

It's pretty much exactly like Dark Slouls PC port. Really bizarre limitation in display options, but once you fixed that the game ran and looked beautifully.

It is different in that in DS this was by design, where in Nier the limitation is clearly a bug.

Probably the best game I've played in years (along with Horizon, and no I haven't played Zelda yet). I have a few critiques but the excellent combat, deep and emotional story, and wonderful OST have firmly placed it into my best-of-gen list.

This was also nowhere on my radar until I started lurking in some of the pre-release GAF threads on it.

If the game can't even get prerendered cut scenes to run right, calling it a bad port should not flare up your defensive mechanisms.

Dark Souls was From's first PC work.
Platinum has, what, released 4 games on the platform before Nier:A (and that's not counting Bayonetta PC port they have stashed someplace)

I picked it up on PS4 (Pro) despite having a way better gaming PC since I don't buy games with Denuvo, hopefully they remove it down the line once they feel they've left it in for long enough to justify it's inclusion because I'd gladly double dip on PC and I'm sure there are people out there that also dislike Denuvo but don't have a PS4 that would be their first time purchasing the game if it were removed.
