I'm in.

*sign in Kickstarter, choose 35$ pledge*

lol...25$ to ship to Canada?

I'm out...maybe I'll get the SFC version at some point though.

Holy shit, how did I not know about this until now?

The really WTF thing about this news is that Unholy Night is for Super Nintendo, and will be available in february 2017 on a 32MB cartridge.

Wait, 32MB or 32Mb? If it's the latter, that's around the size of the some of the biggest SNES game. 32MB on the other hand is beyond the largest SNES games ever made. It's on par with the average Neo Geo game.

I'm in for a regular cart! I was hoping something like this would happen when it was shown off last year.

Looks like the turn around on this should be pretty quick too.

Feels odd the kickstarter is up after all the development work is done. I'm not a kickstarter expert (far from it) but it seems a little odd. That said, the KS price is cheaper than the Amazon.jp price. I'll keep and eye on it; love the fact retro hardware is getting new software. Thanks for the heads up!

Edit, nvm makes more sense after reading through it.

The kickstarter rewards are for a cartridge and box, whereas the Japanese release is CIB. This plus the original cartridge format means I'll stick with my play-asia preorder. This might hurt their kickstarter if too many people do the same: they should have done this the other way around, or included the Japanese package in the kickstarter.

Awwww, I was hoping they would go crazy with it since the technology has progressed so much in the last 20 years. Then again, 32MEGS was good enough back then, and is still good enough today for an SNES game.

Yes you are correct. Sticking with my Amazon Japan order. Complete in box.

Ah, good information. Thanks for pointing out the differences.

I'm undecided. I'd love to support this but at the same time fighting games aren't really my thing. I hope it does well though as I'd love to see some new retro platforming games.

Is asking for a Switch version port-begging in this case? Cause I gave my SNES to a best friend nearly 20 FREAKING YRS AGO!

Kickstarter for NTSC Unholy Nights cartridge. Min manufacturing run qty is 1500 carts so they have set up a kickstarter for preorders.

Clear black (smoke) cartridge $35 + S/H
Gold plated cartridge $70 + S/H
Box art, manual, and cartridge sticker included with each purchase.

edit:I didn't read the thread, I didn't see this was already posted but to add:
They have clarified that this release is also for CIB so depending on shipping could be cheaper.

Their shipping is a bit fucked up. The $35 pledge (game CIB only) is $25 shipped worldwide ($5 in the US) = $60, whereas for the $40 pledge (game CIB + controller), the shipping is $10 worldwide = $50.
The Japanese version CIB is at $42 + $5 shipping on play-asia.

I don't care at all about the controller, but I'm considering which cartridge style I like better. And a manual in a language I would understand. Hmm...

As much as I love retro gaming and certainly a new title being released for a retro platform, the trailer from the KS page doesn't do much to entice me. The quality of the video doesn't really show off the sprites or artwork well and there certainly seems to be a decent bit of slow down in what was shown.

That aside the NTSC boxart and manual art just plain don't look good. Slapping a high quality artistic render of one of the game's characters alone ontop of a tinted in-game background then flame effects for good measure? Why not have a stylized cover featuring all 6 characters? The same goes for the cart, that gold especially looks ugly as is.

Although it may be too late to get one by the time reviews and high quality footage from average players comes out to get a copy not at scalped prices, I'll be waiting on this one.

Wow didn't even peep that the Japanese release isn't related to this kickstarter. I'll keep my pledge, but I definitely want the SFC cart which seems guaranteed.

Ends in a few hours. Safe to say it's missing the goal?

Yep, so I pledged for a cart and controller (which is cheaper to ship than the cart on its own, which is odd). Just in case a miracle occurs.

What are my other options for playing this on a real Super Famicom? They're still selling this in Japan, right? So, Play-Asia or one of those similar places?

Yeah both Play-Asia and Amazon.jp are still selling the SFC version of the game.

Trying to figure out the whole distribution/completion of this game, it's so confusing. Wish there weren't so many conflicting things coming out, like how it's up on amazon and play-asia and even shipping?? It was supposed to be done in February and ship this month, but it sounds like they got funding to do production even when their Kickstarter failed??

So how is it? The gameplay looked pretty choppy when I saw the trailer for it. I preordered one from Amazon even though I don't have a SNES haha!

Considering the team's dev history I'm curious why they didn't make a Neo Geo release, lol. Folks like NGDEV Team proves it can be viable, right?

Got mine today.

The packaging and overall presentation is really nice.

The game itself is okay. It's nothing really new but it at least feels like a SFC era game and not some aesthetically unpleasing homebrew garbage that most games that are developed for older hardware end up being.

The lack of music tracks is doing my head in though.

More people have old SNES hardware than old Neo Geo hardware = more sales I am guessing.

The thing is, this game is a niche within a niche within a really old hardware

At least in the Neo Geo his dedicated fanbase will probably sold out this game there, specially if it was made by ex-snk

I guess that it was cheaper to made on SFC

This could use one or two enhancement chips.

@Ban Puncher : Does it run better than in the videos ?

It unfortunately looks jerky in motion but it plays okay.

Here is some unboxing and gameplay captured directly.

Unholy Night also didn't cost $700+ per cartridge like NGDEV releases.
