It was a really good, unique film which made bold choices. Action scenes were amazing. I wish I felt the love as others do, but the characters were muted to the point where it was hard for me to develop much interest in them, or what happened to them. Still, as a visual experience it was well worth the price, but I have no desire to watch it again.
Edit: also agree that the villains were kind of silly. They were more ridiculous than intimidating, and for this film to work I think it needed more than just bog standard wasteland mutants.

Really good movie, about as good as Babe Pig In The City
Easily. And I still strongly feel that the film's stature will only grow with time. Repeat viewings keep showing more layers to it and also show just how masterfully Miller and his crew put the thing together.All-time top 3 action films.
Not to pick but this could be a case of Seinfelds not funny since the Max franchise created the "bog standard wasteland mutant" to begin with and just about everything post-apocolyptic with those kind of characters have been ripping off the Max movies since the early eighties.
Top 2 for me.All-time top 3 action films.

Top 2 for me.
The villains i felt were very literally and philosophically angry relatives. Max found himself in the middle of a family spat and the motivations felt teal and personal.
Nobody was looking for a fountain of youth, or a map to a new world. They wanted to get away from an abusive relationship.
It was inspired and perfectly executed. In summary you are wrong. Good day sir!

Argh, I just don't get the hype for this film... Yeah it looks gorgeous at times, but Max is played terribly, TERRIBLY by Tom Hardy. His Max just doesn't work for me at all. Furiosa was more of the main protagonist for me over his muted performance. Just feels weird that the main character feels subdued and a bit out of place through the whole movie.
I guess I was immediately annoyed by the opening of the film, with all the crazies. The film had a manic beginning that gave me a headache, then Immortan Joe or whatever his name was... what a ludicrous looking villain. I just thought he looked silly (same goes for flamethrower guitar guy - don't get all the people proclaiming best movie ever because of THAT -yes I've basically seen that in previous threads). Yeah sorry I just did not gel with this movie. I wish I did, I went cos of the universal hype and I seem to be one of the few who doesn't rate this at all. Hate being out of the loop, but it just rubbed me up the wrong way. Sorry!
They're showing this at my cinema next week and I cannot wait.
Best movie ever made
.It's a masterpiece of minimalist world-building. It says so much with so little.
Yeah that's what I was talking about. Got the film on Bluray asap but never got round to watching the black and chrome version. They're showing it in my area too, but it's the Black & Chrome Edition.
I'm basically with you. I don't share your criticisms, but on the whole; I don't get what the fuss is all about. Cinematography was incredible, and I found it to be enjoyable (and better than the rest of the series, except maybe 2). But everyone on GAF treats it like one of the best films ever made, top whatever action movies of all time, etc., etc., etc. on and on and it's nowhere near there for me. Probably doesn't rate in my top 20 action films. It's fun, I just wish I liked it as much as everyone else. I liked the world in the game more.
All-time top 3 action films.
I adore this film, but as an action movie, would you really put it above the likes of Robocop, Terminator/T2, Aliens, Die Hard, Raiders of the Lost Ark?
Yes obviously; do you not?I adore this film, but as an action movie, would you really put it above the likes of Robocop, Terminator/T2, Aliens, Die Hard, and Raiders of the Lost Ark?

I am half tempted to watch the originals but feel they may be slightly dated now, as I have never watched them, other than that i could get into the Video Game perhaps, is that any good?

I had the same thought. Watched Mad Max. It was bad. Skip it.
The only interesting thing about it is that it takes place in some weird low-key dystopia they really only hint at.
One of the few movies I had to go and watch a few times in theaters. It has been a while since I've seen a segment from a film that made me want to yell from all the exhilaration. It's so good. Also, plus 1 for these ridiculous closeups, really added a punch to those chase scenes.
What a godlike film in every aspect.
Termintor isn't really an action movie. Robocop isn't beloved for its action. T2 and Aliens should make the list. The other two...
Nah.
Yes obviously; do you not?
Where the fuck is my Mad Max: Wasteland?
