Switch isn't the start of a new generation. Devs have the tools and engines to support a device in the Switch class from day one for years.

The only third party game currently announced for this year that I could see hitting 170k is DQX, but even that is doubtful IMO(especially considering the PS4 launches first).
I think Minecraft will easily beat that. But my broader point is we have little idea what is coming out in the next 10 months and given all of the positive indicators the doom-saying is way premature.
Minecraft definitely will, but then it's not Japanese.
Nintendo getting Minecraft so early is definitely something they deserve credit for.
why does every switch thread always turn into fanboy wars?

Support for most indies was only available in 4.15, and shipable support is actually still a week or two out, so there will be a delay on that front.I wonder when these UE4 games are actually going to materialise...

Publisher games take a while to make. Remember the start of this generation when people kept going "No one is using Unreal Engine 4!"? They're also the class of developers least interested in getting on board early (or maybe at all).
Unreal Engine 4 is built to be easily upgradable with every update so that they don't lose devs along the way.Can devs using 4.15 right now easily upgrade to 4.16 in their Switch games in development? Can Sumo patch Snake Pass Switch to 4.16 as well if that benefits the game?
It's a lot harder to coordinate business meetings with a foreign entity if you have not established an office in the same country. You can't just contact NCL through Nintendo of America or Europe to discuss your engine working on their hardware without significant bureaucratical delay.
Koei tecmo are doing the Japanese release of fire emblem warriors arent they? While i dont think it'll quite go that high it has a good shot at it

I'd be surprised if a game that already shipped upgraded though without good reason. The biggest change to Switch support in 4.16 is stability improvements, but I haven't heard anyone say Snake Pass has crashing issues.

You have to remember that Japanese games often announce 3-6 months prior to launch, but can have 3-5+ year development cycles.Sure, I'm taking into account Epic Japan's past comments though. If there's ~20 UE4 games coming to Switch, including games that were already announced, it's a bit weird that we know so few. Devs are making good use of UE4 now but it's still not an extensive list.
I mean it comes with a ton of stuff, but it's the kind of things you usually wouldn't go back to a finished lower budget game for.Ah, would've thought it came with extra performance buffs or something Snake Pass could use.

If 10 Japanese UE4 Switch games started development in January, you might not see them until 2020-2022.
Yes, for UE4 games already in development, you could see them much, much sooner.Ports though should be uber quick given how fast Sumo got Snake Pass done though.
Vindicated.
btw Snake Pass was UE4, not super hot on Switch, though quite demanding on other consoles too.
not true don't spread this false informationSwitch fares better CPU wise in comparison to ps4 than it does GPU wise
On a freaking handheld nonethelessIt sounds like it should be easier this time developing for Nintendo.

I'm just trying to caution that 20 games in development doesn't necessarily mean 20 games by the end of 2018 or whatever.
Change x86 with arm and they probably could.isn't it closer to a mobile phone than a PC? I mean it's not like Nintendo could go for a beefy x86 PC-like console next generation with a nvidia GPU and easily have backwards-compatibility, right?
Right, but I don't think that's weird.Sure but out the two we do know of one if a late port of a game out later this summer and one probably isn't coming out in 2018 as you say.
oops, sorryRead the exact words i used

Right, but I don't think that's weird.
How many Japanese games do we even know of releasing this Fall, much less next year, especially when we exclude Square Enix, who announces their games 10 years in advance.
Bomberman R Is at 500,000 copies currently worldwide.
We were referring to JP domestic sales solely.
What's the game at currently in Japan?
Right, but I don't think that's weird.

Yeah they're taking their sweet time... Maybe UE4 implementation wasn't fully ready for launch and it has been since only recently? Snake pass was a smaller game that didn't need so much time? dunno...
Yeah, exactly. I can't help but feel that, with E3 and TGS still to come, people are becoming a tad bit impatient or a tad bit too cynical when it comes to Switch 3rd party support. If, by years end, we're still having these discussions it's time to worry but now is not that time.
ARM cortex is PC architecture?
Also of course there was a port to (really export to) Switch option.
I'd still say it was more positive than what we know for Switch so far. A late port of DQXI doesn't compare to FFXV and KH3 announcements and Yakuza is bigger than anything else announced for Switch.

As someone who has used UE4 a bit for hobby projects, yes, the "push button to port" is definitely a thing with UE4. It doesn't take into account debugging and optimization, but it truly is as easy as hitting a button to create a Switch build of a UE4 game.
Yeah I saw that, pretty impressive. UE4 Switch games are going to look very nice.
No...I played the game. There's a snake and some platforms. Sure, friction and weight are checked... but if that's too much work for the cpu, it's not a great sign for something like GTA is it.
a developer going by the name Shinoyama and Fukushima showed a vehicle game demo for Switch made with the aforementioned dev kit thats priced under 50,000 yen.

No one is talking about the fact that Switch run Casa Barragan in 720p, possibly even 1080p with a few adjustments?
I mean Snake pass port to Switch was completed within a week, that's extremely quick.
http://nintendoeverything.com/sumo-...-getting-snake-pass-up-and-running-on-switch/We got the code across onto Switch or at least certain parts of it in a matter of hours, so we started becoming more confident that we could achieve what we wanted and within the timescales we were looking at. Within seven days, we had it fully playable.
Those that often don't mention this don't also like to remember that switch can also run Crysis 3. Have no problem downing the system as not being powerful for ports yet platform already has visible examples of what a 3rd party could do if they bothered to put the effort and time in.
The Wii U could run Crysis 3, so yeah the Switch could definitely do so much better. The way people talk about AAA games being downgraded massively on the Switch is kinda ridiculous considering that.
It'll be nice to hopefully see some solid evidence of this at E3.
It has been evident, at least with regards to Switch, that Nintendo is clearly holding off on announcing games, whether it be first-party of third-party. I think this was really evident in the recent Nintendo Direct, where there were Japanese games like Fate/Stay and forgot the other.
It feels more like Nintendo wants folk to simply focus on what they have coming within the next 2-3 months, than 6 months to year timeframe.

Only reason we didn't see is because EA crushed the version that existed of it. Company has no problem giving us shit when they do when they finally show up on nintendo, but between them not publishing the star wars game on Wii or Crysis WiiU title I don't think anyone should ever give them the benefit of the doubt on nintendo platforms. They have been historically bad even during the snes and N64 era to consumers.
Same group is hypocritical and their post history shows it most of the time. They have no problem downing a nintendo platform that isn't even trying for mid range power while bitching that the pc shouldn't be compared cause people spend their money as they please to get a good looking game or a very smooth performing one or even outright customizing it as they please.
Getting back to the topic I'm literally surprised at nintendo switching development, OS, and firmware issues. Nintendo has ways to go but to see them just outright abandon one of their dumbest mistakes for 15 years is nice. Their OS like PS4 OS is utter proof you can do a lot with a light linux or bsd variant instead of using the crap kernel that is windows. Switch OS vs android shows that firmware/OS is huge when it comes to utilizing what's inside. Next to Doom 2016 utterly shattering concepts of what low level apis can do I haven't been more impressed by what companies do when they grow up with how they treat their software and what can be done. Nvidia and nintendo tagging up to do so is even more befuddling.
My serious hope is that they get employees or gain more awareness of what firmware or OS engineering can do when applied right. The same can be said for OS tweaks. Nintendo and Sony just ask Nvidia/Amd why Microsoft/Windows sucks when it comes to how games are synced vs what can be done. Lightboost strobing is very software based once you have decent hardware nor does it require pricy hardware, as that is what gysnc requires but not exploiting the 3d chip features a lot of displays use. None of the big 3 have responded to bufferbloat which is great for network performance but overall system performance as it totally minimized various impacts that networking has on cpy cycles, thread contention, cpu usage, and interrupts being used. Consoles are always performance starved so freeing up resources, offloading properly, using proper acceleration techniques, and minmizing bloat/overhead counts a lot.
