I know you all are being sarcastic with the indie stuff but even reading it is giving me indigestion.

And hey, I asked this around launch and got some varied responses, so I now I want to see what things are like with the dust settled:

How as Mass Effect Andromeda? Bargain bin or summer
Origin
sale price range?

My (kinda baitey) Indie thread is still going strong it seems. Besides 2d plattformers apparently a lot of Indie-Games now are also Souls like games.

lol. Keep at it mate.

Speaking of indie games, I think i am gonna binge through Hollow Knight and TRY to get to the final area by later today. I need to clear this thing and uninstall it since I'm really not enjoying it when shit goes south in this game :/
Mind you, by 'going south' I mean 'boss fights that take forever for the boss to die because the devs thought I can go 5 to 10 hours with my pissant sorry excuse for a whacking stick and it'll serve my purposes just fine'

It's still a game worthy of GOTY as I can see the good in it; it's just not for me.

Speaking further about Indie games, Dust remains one of my fav. indie Metroidvanai-style games

ME:A will probably start being cheaper and cheaper soon...I'd say just wait until it's around the $15-$20 (or cheaper) range

If you aren't dying for a game to play or for a Mass Effect game I would say wait as long as you can.

It seems like Bioware have a few patches planned bu I think it is going to be 3 to 5 months before most of those plans have been implemented.

The experience isn't terrible at the moment and the game is perfectly playable but it is severely lacking that polish you'd expect from a large AAA open world game. I stopped laying after 20 hours and I'm going to wait for the patches before jumping back in, in which I hope the game feels a little bit more solid and the story starts to go somewhere.

There are so flaws that aren't going to be fixed like the characters and the way your main character reacts to situations, I just hate how passive you have to be in nearly ever situation and how the game just spams you with the same choice over and over again even when you reject it. It has seemed to lost a lot of finesse that the old games had which for me breaks the flow of the game severely and makes me hate certain characters :p

I finally caved and bought Planet Coaster. I could resist yet another sale, so here's to building my insane creative rollercoaster parks. I just wish I knew where to go for an active community. Like if the game has an official forum that is being used or maybe Reddit is the best place to go.

OH
MY
GOD

Full Disclosure: I'm coming off of a 3 week 126 hour BloodBorne binge.

I had seen Dead Cells in our "What game are you Literally" post, where many users have debated the use of "Literally".

I did not know it was on Early Access now. I bought it and I just spend the past 74 minutes smiling ear to fucking ear.

Guys, Girls, Animals, go buy it NOW! It's...
LITERALLY
ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!

I can't believe I have to go to work now, I'm going to be thinking about it all day.

EDIT: Ok I seriously can't stop ocd'ing. Example of why it's great.
1. Animation is on point. There are some things they'll need to touch up, but damn good.
2. Runs great. There is some minor graphic bugs, but for the most part on my system it ran great.
3. Feels great. I'm a huge proponent on how weapons/guns feel in games, they got to have umph to them.
4. Controls like butta. Smooth, all natural, grass fed. BOVINE UNIVERSITY BUTTA
5. Look at it. Jesus the artwork, the animation combined, just, ugh.

Ok leaving for real, someone go buy it, then comeback nerd out with me and tell me "Damn Coma you're right, this is fucking great, I'll play a progressive metal song in your honor".

Do it! Everything that GAFer said is true, it feels great to play. I don't know what else to say that he hasnt. It's on sale right now all over the place. What are you waiting for!?

Beat The Last Remnant. I saw that "twist" at the end coming like 20 (game) hours ago lol. The story was often cheesy, not helped by rather sub-par English voice acting (with some exceptions like David and The Conqueror), but the plot was actually kinda interesting once you have the full picture (major spoilers):

It's implied that remnants are sentient beings, but are unable to communicate with the humans/other races. People have been binding, or perhaps a better word is enslaving, remnants and using them as tools for eons now, and the remnants have decided to push back. The remnants birthed Rush, a remnant in human form who would be able to communicate to people, but he was found and adopted by humans and his purpose was never fulfilled - it's implied that Mrs. Sykes wiped his memory of his intended purpose using Marion's Blessing. So this time the remnants birthed a new "human" remnant in adult form instead (The Conqueror), and he was tasked with Rush's original job: to free the remnants from mankind's grasp. This would be very bad news for everyone else in the world, because the remnants would cause widespread death and destruction if released. But Rush, having been raised by humans (you might even say he was brainwashed by his adoptive parents), isn't having it and ends up using his power to destroy them all, including himself, to save humanity. Knowing the full backstory puts a much darker mood over that final scene where you see all the remnants in the world disintegrating - Rush betrayed his own kind and pulled a straight-up remnant holocaust. But hey... at least they aren't slaves anymore.

To be fair it didnt really help some Indies, that after the PS4 you only got more "questionable" indietitles as a PS+ member...

Sometimes I wonder if PS+ did more harm than good for indie games. The overall quality of the indie games selected for PS+ is average at best and a lot of times decent to great games were harmed by botched ports (Broforce).

well that sucks about Alan Wake. But one would assume everyone and their mother would own it by now anyway.

Any word on The Surge? I saw there was a Quicklook but I havent checked it yet.

From this thread , impressions are quite positive but there doesn't seem to be a lot of bosses.

hmm, I'm not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, bosses are a big part of Souls games... on the other hand, this ISNT a souls game, and I dont think Lords had that mny bosses either. Well, it was also much shorter than a Souls game, it was around 20-25 hours IIRC. I reckon Surge is the same?

edit: actually, the exploration and shortcuts and shit are why I play Souls games, the bosses are the difficult roadblock I hit once in a while to continue exploring, so im not sure if thats too bad that there are fewer. I'm not even trying to sugar coat it, its not like me liking Lords is a big secret. I need to hear about lenght tho.

Looking at the Dead Cell link. I've come to realize I'm not a fan of rogue-lites. Even with perma upgrades I find the sheen of fun wears thin when I have to restart and lose all the level progress each time I die. Still haven't completed Everspace, Gungeon, and a couple others because of this despite enjoying the core gameplay.

Just when I re-consider another playthrough I'm reminded I'll probably die and lose all the progress on that run as well.

Thanks. I had a feeling that some of the initial reaction shockwave was from fresh disappointment about the game not being what people had it in their minds it would be. Similar to Inquisition, which I generally liked. It's no Origins, clearly, but eh.

I can definitely hold off right now for a solid sale. Not being on Steam, too, hurts my total giveafuck.

I've been watching streams of it this morning. It seems pretty robust in ways that Lords of the Fallen wasn't. You can equip a ton of stuff with massive visual impact and skillset variation. The environments look less static. The combat seems slower than Souls/Fallen but heavier, with more weight, in a way. And it's sci-fi.

It's got my interest. But Dead Cells is leeching my hype for anything right now.

With Gungeon, you can save at the end of each floor.

It's not exactly something that changes this much for me, as it exists a single-use 'quit the game and resume your progress upon relaunch' feature after you've managed to clear a level. I've read you can eventually unlock some kind of shortcut but that involves completing a number of levels already and completing other tasks which I never reached.

Came across a Reddit thread where all the comments mentioned they took between 50-100 hours just to reach the fifth level (IIRC that's the last?), some not even beating it. Can't say it made me optimistic at my chances.

Can someone here upload their Bayonetta config for a DS4 with working turbo on face buttons? And explain how it works. Because all the configs I've found haven't worked for me for some reason. Not sure what I'm doing wrong

This is why levels are randomly generated. If done right, it is never the same game.

I initially thought it might have been a case of chauvinism. However, by the look of it, this GAFfer is not even French. He is based in the US.

This is why levels are randomly generated. If done right, it is never the same game.

Not sure if Dead Cells does it differently but the procedurally generated levels in the games I've played are typically themed for each section/level/map you're in. In Teleglitch, Everspace, Gungeon, etc, each such level still has the same elements they're just re-organized quasi-randomly to produce new layouts, enemy placements and such.

So what happens is initially it feels somewhat fresh each time, until you get n levels in, experience the new designs, die, then get kicked back to the same starting levels you've already played dozens of times or more.

I prefer games where upon completing levels/maps you unlock them and move on, returning for goals like time achievements, items and the like. Where you're not stuck in Groundhog Day seeing the same thematic design elements each time you simply want to move forward. A lot of it just comes down to desiring different design/enemy variety for each run more than anything.

I think I'm over 2D pixel art roguelikes. There are enough of them now. It's time for some other 2D pixel art genre to make a comeback.

How did you write all that and somehow not have a single mention about the game's true GOAT - Emma.
