Farpoint/PSVR Aim |OT| Survivors Keep Shooting

Played the campaign for a couple of hours. Game is super fun. I was getting wrecked at one part, so I figured it was time to turn it off.

The gun works really well. I usually play VR sitting down, but played standing up this time. Never noticed any drifting, and I didn't experience any motion sickness unless I spun the camera excessively while running. I really like how the game shows your camera's position and detection area when holding Options.

Definitely going to try co-op tomorrow.

Wow that opening made me really want a space flight sim for PSVR
You mean you would like a game where you command, defend and steer a space ship? Having story driven adventures, let's say in the Star Trek universe? With a Bridge Crew of other players, maybe? And if possible this game should be released no later than the 30th of this month?

Then you are in luck with each and every one of these points. :D

Played it for an hour. Love it, but got exhausted even started sweating XD

I'll play this in small chunks.

Gun is pretty great, can't wait to use on other games. I really need an on rails arcade shooter.

Not quite what I meant but Bridge Crew looks like a lot of fun too. After finally playing Werewolves Within, I can not express how fun social VR games are.

On topic, Im not to far into the game but I'm actually digging the NPCs. They seem likable and im not cringing at their dialog.

about to start this in a few minutes. Do I sit or stand?
So, I stood because that seemed to be what the game wanted me to do. (Asking for my height is what convinced me.)

If you think you'd prefer sitting, I think you'll be just fine sitting.

It worked great standing, but I don't think it really adds anything. I'm probably gonna try sitting.

I will tell you this game has made me scream and jump as much as RE7.

After figuring out how to control the camera (thanks for the replies!), this game is slowly skyrocketing its way to being my favorite PSVR game yet.

Like, it doesn't do any one thing exceptionally well. It does every thing it borrows competently. The one thing that has most surprised me is how good it looks on an OG PS4. As a game with a theme and setting that in some ways reminds me of Scavenger's Odyssey (from PSVR Worlds) and Robinson, it tops both visually. You get that slight blur on things way in the distance, but it's still leagues crisper than those two experiences while putting me in similar situations/environments. It's actually surprising me at each new area.

I simply can't say enough how sublime the Aim Controller experience is. The only adjustment I made was setting my height to about 6" shorter than I actually am. I play sitting so that gives me a bit more leeway before the alignment grid helper pops up.

If you have PSVR, you need this bundle.

Hearing a number of people (me included) saying Amazon UK orders for Farpoint bundle are being delayed until Saturday, despite being placed months ago. :(

I got that message and realised I'd had it ordered there no Tesco as I thought. I'd say I'm glad it's not just me, but obvs I'm not glad everyone is being shafted :( probably wouldn't have had a chance to play it much before Sunday anyway, but still...

Side note: I'm prone to motion sickness, but no issues here. I couldn't play Robinson at all, and had to take lots of breaks with RE7. But I've had zero issues with this game. By default there is only one stick movement, and pointing the gun turns you. Also, you are typically just walking forward. Something about the way they designed it just works, so no queezy issues.

Really glad to hear this, as I'm at the same level of 'sickness prones" as you.

As a side note, didn't it get better for you over time? The first session I couldn't play for more than 15m, 30 degrees and slow speed and by the third I was playing for 30m , 90 degrees and fast

Managed to reserve one at Argos, heading there to pick up when they open.

Spoke with Amazon via chat, they bumped the delivery to 19th from 20th and blamed Sony for not delivering enough/in time.

But done the same, got one ordered at Argos, will pop down this morning and avoid the amazon delay :)

Just a big shoutout to Amazon (UK) who decided to delay my Aim bundle until Saturday for reasons.

They even had the courtesy to let me know at 2am this morning, technically on day of release. What a shower of shit.
Actually it's the first time I've had a problem pre-ordering from Amazon.

Luckily my local Argos just got a consignment in so 10 minutes later I picked mine up.

Phew!

Ditto. Dunno why I didn't just go there in the first place.

I don't get motion sickness but I find that if play this standing I lose my balance occasionally and my back starts to hurt. I guess I have bad VR posture.

Anyway, like the other guy said, it plays fine sitting.

Why any of you use Amazon when wanting the game on release is beyond me. There are far better outlets to buy from than Amazon, wise up and use them instead. If you ordered from Amazon you really cant complain, they have a long history of not getting things out for release day.

But I burned all my gaming budget this year thanks to Q1 madness...need to wait after E3 for PSVR roadmap.

I was one of the first to order and they told me it's delayed until late July, what a joke.

RE7 did get better over time, but the issue never went away completely for me. I never found a way to play Robinson.

It's not a horror game, but damn did I jump (and swear a lot) when those little bastards first came at me. Such a rush that you NEVER get playing a flat-screen game.

Apologies if this is a dumb question. But how do you turn off the blue grid and camera icon that's on the screen? This game looks brilliant on the pro but that grid is irritating me :( RE7 had it, but you could turn it off

There is a grid? Only noticed that during set up.

In RE7, did you turn off VR cam acceleration? That's the only thing that would cause sickness for me. I think Bound forces that feature and has purposely made spinning upsidedown rooms to test the abuse rates of ones stomach.

The grid is a representative overlay of the game play area where the camera detects your controller. If it is showing up, it is because of your set-up -- you (or really your controller) is moving outside that area. Need to move further back from the camera (or to the left or right), I would think. Sometimes if you put the controller (for me, the Aim) down to your side when not moving, it can move below the proper area.

Ok thanks will try adjusting camera and position

This game is insanely immersive. Playing with the Aim Controller really feels like a whole new VR experience and the tracking is phenomenal.

If you have PSVR and find the game and controlled bundle you really should buy it. Best experience on PSVR by far.

Played for about 30 minutes, feels really good. The PSVR Aim controller is excellent. One of the most immersive PSVR games I have played so far.
Totally worth it, glad I pulled the trigger.

Really happy to see every gaffer's positive impression, despite those 7s, I'm glad that people did not skip this title because of it.
Impulse Gear really deserve the love, glad people are tweeting them too.

Amazon.co.uk: Delivery estimate: Thursday, 18 May 2017 - Friday, 19 May. Yeah, that's not going to happen. It's not even preparing for shipment. Haven't gotten a mail about a delay either.

Is it possible to get the Aim controller just on it's own in the UK? I have gone entirely digital this gen so want to buy Farpoint on PSN but can't find the aim controller on it's own anywhere it's always a bundle.

Only got to play for around 30 minutes since the Aim controller came with no battery charge out of the box. Super awesome experience so far. The most mind blowing thing was turning around at the intro spawn and watching your shadow 1:1 mimic all your real life movements (even ducking).

I will preorder right now if they get Starship Troopers license for the sequel.

I played through RE7 with the default camera setting (the 15 degree "jumps"). That's what I'm playing Farpoint with too (it's labelled as "small"). I tried using smooth turning for a moment and after about ten seconds I was like "Nope." I knew my stomach would drop if I kept playing that way.

I guess technically nothing is stopping regular games from supporting it, but the poster who replied to you was speaking specifically about the game being VR exclusive, not the controller. As of right Now, the controller is only used in VR games, but there aren't any technical limitations that keep it from being used on something like say Killzone Shadowfall or something. Only things required would be a PS4 and PS4 Camera

I haven't even thought of this. I hope Sony shows some regular shooters at E3 that uses the AIM controller.

Not saying its not a great game, but its not unusual for Gaf to rave about a game on release and then turn on it a week later.

This getting 7's pretty much across the board says more to me than GAF gushing about it. However, we are starved for decent VR experiences and this looks just that, a decent VR experience :)

I played about an hour last night, and I can understand what some of the reviewers are saying. If this were a non-VR game or if it didn't have the Aim, then I wouldn't give it a second look, but it IS a VR game and it DOES use the Aim, and it's fucking amazing because of it. The game itself has a very on-rails feel to it, at least in the first hour that I played. It's like on-rails with the ability to deviate from the rail a bit.

In the end though, I had to take a step back and realize what I was playing. If you had told 8 year old me that I would be playing a pretty realistic looking shooter in VR with a physical gun that mirrors its position into the game and I would be doing it all in my home and not at an arcade or at a $25 kiosk at Six Flags, I would have flipped my shit.

The game is just fun, technical limitations be damned.

If you sit, an office chair that can rotate makes it much better.

Haha, mine is delayed indefinitely by Amazon. I ordered it 20 June 2016.

Amazon is shit now for video games. The only offered the 20% discount to match the Best Buy gamer club so they could squeeze BB out of the game. Except their logistics behind it sucks and they can never guarantee stock or delivery date.

Best Buy still has stock of the bundle right now. And I got mine on release day. Amazon has missed the last 4 release date deliveries for me.

The impression I got from this thread is that the game is a great vr experience (better than most vr game), but with just a decent shooter campaign. Seems like many sites review it and compare it to other non vr shooter instead of looking at it as a vr game. Not sure which approach is preferable though.

Looking down the holographic sight of the assault rifle is fucking rad.

Also I am not generally afraid of spiders but when they jump at me and skitter around behind me, my skin starts crawling.

Just in case anybody else got sick of reaching over their back to switch weapons, pressing down on the d-pad will switch them too. Not sure if that was common knowledge but I just found it out and the reaching over the back was getting annoying. I also found out that if you point your weapon at yourself and pull the trigger you kill yourself. Just FYI.

Triangle will switch your weapons too.

Only played about an hour last night, but I was really pleased with the game and the controller.
The first time I strafed I thought I was going to fall over, but it didn't bother me much after that. Didn't figure out how to turn until I was calling it a night though, so we'll see what that does to me.
