God of War - Road to E3 2017 (IGN)

The game may have 100 enemies at once in some battles. The only way to do it is through the classic camera, unless they manage anotehr good view.

I don't know, you fight hundreds of enemies in Dynasty Warriors right? Having the camera go back and forth between 3rd person view and top down would be a little weird I think.

You fought around 3000 enemies in Heavenly Sword in some battles. In Lair, it may reach 13000. There is another game like Dynasty Warriors that you fight 10000 enemies too.

Edit: Game is Kingdom Under Fire I & II.

My point was mainly you could keep the 3rd person camera even when fighting a lot of enemies.

Well we have to see than, cause i don't remember that if kratos even fight that much in previous God of war games.

In the first game there is a puzzle when Kratos pushes a big block of rock while almost one hudnred enemies keep pouring at him.
I remember that scene very well because it was very hard to pass.

Really hoping the gameplay will be fast like the old games and not another Horizon/Uncharted/Last of Us paced game.

benevolent sexism
CGI trailer, Kratos is now a father .. cant spell ignorant without ign etc

Also saying it takes advantage of the power of the PS4 by being like The Last of Us and Tomb Raider, as though GOW games haven't always been leading edge technical showcases.

Truly a garbage video. Are they going to release their dumb recap and speculation about every big game that might be at E3?

Well compared to GoW it is, why do Sony want all their first party titles to be so similar gameplay wise? I know that's what's hot right now but eh.

Your assumption is that there's any sort of mandate from Shu for 'narrative focused third person action adventure single-player only' game.

Morel likely than not, it's simply what the devs want to make, and since they're the best pitches of the bunch, they're the ones that go through.

Big battle against tons of baddies with a breathtaking background followed by a boss fight. The demo ends halfway through the fight as soon as the boss enters stage two and launches a devastating attack. Cut to black. Q1 2018 release date.

I'm shocked at anyone even entertaining the idea of an actual 2017 release date. I thought when this was first announced it was already confirmed for 2018? But like others have said, I'd expect a gameplay demo & 2018 release date at the end.

Can't wait to see how much they push the Pro with God of War! These games are always technical showcases (that GOW3 intro!). There's such incredible potential here.

This is an oddly and poorly produced video from IGN.

1. They didn't show a CGI trailer last year and show gameplay behind closed door. They played the game on stage as a live demo.

2. Kratos has always been a father throughout the God of War series.

3. It annoys me how every video game press outlet has associated any sort of character bonding in a video to "Oh, they're taking cues from The Last of Us"

4. Stop starting sentences with "So".

Right I should have clarified that GT Sport is probably their big November first party game. It's one of the most packed fall lineups already with RDR2, Destiny 2, and promising AC and COD and FarCry games, so I think in terms of their traditional action AAA games they're not going to push anything out for holiday.

Gt, knack, uncharted, hot shots, wipeout..

Then stuff like kiwami and nex machina and such.
But yea, no need to go up against that monstrosity of a season.

Was GoW ever 'fast paced'? Every single one had major set pieces connected by slower paced story sections in between.
GoW was definitely not fast paced all the time. The pacing grinds to a halt every time you reach a puzzle section. I would be fine if story beats replaced those sections as the puzzles were never particularly difficult anyway.

Horizon/Uncharted/Last of Us paced game.
These three games are paced differently.

  • Horizon's open-world with frequent battle-scavenging-loot pickups but you'll often teleport around or stick within a city/hunting ground for an extended period.
  • Uncharted's wide-linear with regen health and little need to manage your inventory so you can progress very quickly.
  • The Last of Us is wide-linear with health packs and frequent scavenging slowing progression if you're playing on a challenging difficulty level, without New Game+ enhancements and/or your first play through without knowledge of the dangers ahead.
Well compared to GoW it is, why do Sony want all their first party titles to be so similar gameplay wise? I know that's what's hot right now but eh.
I think you were trying to do a 'cinematic' dig but failed spectacularly.

They're all slower paced third person action games, light years away from what GoW was, why make the game more of the same when it was pretty unique in Sony's first party lineup?

I"m wondering if what we see next will be more in line with GoW 1-3 or more of a TLoU, as the first reveal.

Yeah, I think I eyerolled so heard that I nearly fainted for a second. Just can't believe IGN staff members are getting payed for such shoddy work. 10 minutes google-fu would have sufficed to get at least a minor understanding of what's going on here.

What are you even talking about? None of the three games you mentioned even remotely play the same. And Horizon plays nothing like any first or third party game released recently, it's actually one of the faster paced action games released recently (in terms of combat).

Don't let the initial reveal fool you

I've brought this up before, but SSM had one shot to lure in new fans or those that had checked out of the series. Those people would've instantly been turned off if they would've done the standard GoW gameplay reveal where it's Kratos ripping through hordes of enemies before going up against some giant set piece boss fight. The hardcore fans aren't going to check out just because the initial reveal didn't show them what they were expecting.

Now that they've got that out the way, they can show the types of things that people have expected from the series. Faster action and big set pieces. As those newcomers/old fans know that there will also be something there for them because of the initial reveal.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I really think we will see this or Spider-Man (or ideally both) released this year. Whilst Sony have a great lead, and a solid list of marketing deals lined up, Nintendo and Microsoft are both set to bring some good competition with their 1st party titles, as well as with their new hardware (Switch and Scorpio) over the Christmas period. Sony would not want to take their foot off the gas by relying on 3rd party titles, which are all going to be on a new and presumably more powerful console.

Following E3 I would not be surprised to see some new marketing from Sony which heavily emphasises their 1st party line up, maybe some sort of Playstation Platinum type thing where games like Uncharted 4, Horizon etc see a price cut, or where new console owners can download a free game from a choice of past exclusives.
