PlayStation Plus update: Sony planning big changes

Here, found the full thing where they are basing this. Its from Kaz Hirai speech for investors in the latest Sony Corporate Strategy Meeting

To make it even more appealing.

They just need to make it appealing again for a lot of people. This is a service I used to want to subscribe to because of the games it offered. Now I subscribe to it because I have to if I want to play online. The appeal is gone for the most part. Far worse content, with a pretty substantial price increase. Yeah, that's appealing.

Read the article and it's just a bunch of assumptions thrown there and some obvious things, together with wrong information. Pretty bad article.

"The PlayStation Plus June 2017 games lineup could soon be revealed by Sony."

You don't say! We're at the end of May, that's so obvious that they shouldn't even use the word "could".

And as already pointed out, it seems to be based in a line about the PS Plus service in their Corporate Strategy Meeting. The line says nothing to assume huge changes; but if Sony really wants to enchance the Plus subscription they better bring more value to their "free" monthly games.

Inelastic demand because multi-player is behind ps plus.

That said, as someone who sub because it's dirt cheap in Asia and offers better games, I'm interested to see where it could go.

Lol, maybe you guys shouldn't have raised the price if you were looking to spur growth.

You smarter and better than that. Don't let you ignorance represent you. They did increase price to match a competitor and the still increased subs. So....

This article is highly subjective and they're creating this story from thin air sort of.

Haha what a non-article. Extrapolating one innocuous statement into a slew of baseless speculation and half-baked theorising.

Says the same thing four times. Classic wordcount pad.

EDIT: Just seen that this has just passed 1000 upvotes on /r/PS4 as well. Express rolling around in that ad-revenue.

Yeah, this is nonsense. itsfuckingnothing.gif

How about PlayStation Plus offers all of their 1st party games past/present/future for FREE.

always chasing the next thrill
i would be super duper if i could actually open a party chat with friends
and you know download faster then 2MB/s i should do about 36MB/s

thanks sony

I'll keep my eyes open for this then because I let mine expire and have no plans to come back.
Same, finally let my subscription expire earlier this month for the first time. Games haven't appealed to me for a while, only take advantage of the sales once in a great while, and I hardly do multiplayer.

Them raising the price was the final nail in the coffin for me.

Sony make the multiplayer free .. once again ... and u'll win e3 ..

Great way to throw away tons of money to "win" a pointless marketing event for the fanboys.

To make it even more appealing.

Then they don't need to do anything for people like you because you're still giving them money. They need to win over people like me who let it expire.

thats the issue with this though, service is clearly shitty (I dont even sub anymore) but their subscriber numbers grew 27% YoY

A new UI overhaul where the entire PS4 experience is experienced from Knack.

Did I mention the update is mandatory?

Personally I don't see how June could be good for PS+ members. May PS4 lineup was the best one in like a year so now we're in for some more garbage.

There is no way Knack doesn't come to PS+ between now and the Knack 2 launch.

I remember similar being said about Gravity Rush Remastered before Gravity Rush 2 and that never happened.

This will not happen as long as most of Europe is still without PS Now access.

You mean that thing they're charging $100 annually for? And they would include that as part of their $60 PS+ program? Oh. Yeah. Plausible.

Silly article aside, I do want a substantial update to the service.

Throw out PS3 and Vita.
Maybe free IAPs for stuff like Destiny? In the end those are the games that drive the revenue.
PS+ exclusive games?
Movies and music?

I didn't renew my sub this year and boy, I ain't missing shit. Plus is terrible compared to Gold. Learn from that, Sony. If they increase value, it won't be related to PS Now, hopefully. Not every country has access to that service, ya know.

Guilty as charged. Seemed like such a no-brainer thing for Sony to do. An obvious way to promote Gravity Rush 2, especially since the remaster had seen a ton of deals on PSN already.

Never happened though. Unbelievable.

That article is full of nebulous information. TLOU2 in 2017? No. While I agree changes may be coming it's all very vague as to what that would be. So, the article thus far is useless.

They could take the model that Amazon has taken with Prime, of going for higher subscription counts over per-customer margin. Amazon undoubtedly reduced individual account margins when it added streaming music, video, and books for existing customers at no extra fee.

But I also doubt Sony will do this, because I don't think it is aggressive or forward-looking enough to invest in the future over the present, like Amazon does.

Microsoft has been stomping sony's plus offerings with games with gold, though the backward compatibility is
A big help. In order to match this sony should offer two free ps now games as well as the standard plus games, or if that doesnt work they need to work on making ps3 games natively availible for ps4 or maybe you know, letting us buy and play ps1 games!? Its baffling to me that the legacy support on ps4 is so terrible compared to the xbox one and ps3

Yeah, I deem it very unlikely as is now.

I do, however, think there are viable options. For example, a more limited amount of PSnow games compared to the full offering, or the choice to unlock a game for streaming every month (like with PSplus games, slowly build a library of streamable games over time). Or, hell, even a model with a limited streaming time and commercial breaks. Or a more expensive version of PSplus to combine both services. Or a combination of these.

As is now, PSnow is simply not a very enticing offering to many consumers and I think offering a small selection of PS3 classics to all PSplus subsribers may attract a lot more people to the full subscription. I think it would be a smart move.

'No. You picked a stupid name when you were young, now live with it.'

Anyway, I hope this is true. PS+ is good, there's been lots of 'smaller' games that I wouldn't have played otherwise but could have some more offerings, especially if they ditch PS3/Vita support for everything that isn't cross-play.

Stomping? Newish indie games vs old backwards compatible aaa games? Depends on taste. I agree backwards compatibility has given ms an unique advantage. They can get away by giving mediocre Xbox one games but big name aaa x360 games

i will never get this notion that any old shit that came out on disc is a better offering then a great indie game. there are people crying out for knack and killzone to be free on PS+ and then scoffing at alienation...lol. what in the hell?

if sony want to increase value. give me more of what they're already doing. drop PS3 support if you need to. obscure titles win the day for me. watchdogs, a AAA game i played 3 years ago and hated, doesn't. the more mainstream the offerings get the bigger the chances get of me playing them already.

i mean, a month of GTAV and uncharted 4 might sound like the best thing in the world, but it would be a pointless month for most people i imagine.

Daily Express Exclusive: PS Plus games in June 2017 to be cancelled in favour of giving every member a souvenir plate of Princess Diana

This article sounds like a PS fanboy getting their hopes up that Plus will become better. It's not going to happen. Sony found out that doing what Microsoft did and implementing an online paywall is the way to go get more subscriptions.

PS3 offered great games and only got around 3 million subscriptions.
PS4 did an online paywall and increased sub count to 26 million.

There is no point even trying to cater to that 3 million because it will cost lots of money. We will continue to get shitty ten dollar indies as monthly games and we will like them! Maybe a few big ones for good PR like Transformers and Tales from the Borderlands, but these will be rare.
