Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

Also, nice "True Fan" argument, basically saying that if you play a fighting game casually you're not a "real fan". A "real" fan wouldn't care about characters, right?

A "fan" isn't lesser for caring about characters over gameplay. Get over yourself.

I'd argue the opposite. Gameplay in a videogame would be my biggest priority. I'd honestly be OK with an all-Capcom 28-man roster as long as it plays like Vs. is supposed to.

You'd be wrong. I play fighting games a lot more than the average, but characters, the look of a game and its overall aesthetic are as important to me as gameplay.

I haven't seen seen any of their in-game appearances so no. I will say the pattern of old characters getting new moves continues though, there's a Capcom character getting a new tool that sounds like it's going to help him out a lot.

Hmm...can't be Zero, Spencer or Dante since those characters don't need any help!

Nemesis is getting a teleport! Let's go boys!

We can debate characters, aesthetics and gameplay until we're blue in the face but ultimately my advice to everyone would just be to stay patient and give it a shot. The roster is smaller but personally I'm in love with the new mechanics and there are definitely still enough characters for me to find at least 2 that I really click with. Phoenix Wright and Viewtiful Joe are two of my favorite fictional characters and I'm incredibly bummed that they probably won't be involved in the story mode at all but I'm pretty confident they'll be back at some point before too long.

I mean, paying for a ton of DLC obviously isn't ideal but I don't think we have to worry about the lineup, Capcom did a pretty good job with SFV Season 1 (Alex and Urien were probably the two most requested characters and they were both playable within 6-7 months). The plus side to a ton of cuts and very few newcomers is that at least we have a lot to look forward to later on.

The only characters announced so far (not including DLC Sigma) that I'm pretty certain I'll use are Chris and maybe Hulk and X. What a shit list so far.

In order for the game to not be utterly panned, I think they're a few things that need to be implemented.

- The Story mode should take around 5 or more hours. It also can't be as half-assed as SFV's story mode.

- A tutorial at least on par with In2 with little tutorial vids for each character. SFV actually, eventually, did this so it's not asking for much.

- Challenge mode with at least the bare bones combo challenges.

- Arcade mode.

- Good online options and great netcoding.

Maybe then MvC:I would be considered acceptable by most. If it's anything less than I'm expecting a thrashing.

Holding back Black Panther to sell him as DLC would be kinda gross to be honest.

But I don't mind the "low" player count at all. Unlike Mahvel 3 it's just 2v2 so it isn't that bad.

The bolded were already confirmed, though I believe it was mentioned that the Story Mode would be around 2-3 hours.

Stepping back to 28 characters for the starting roster while also heavily reusing animation assets is baffling. There's some serious half-assing going on here, and I'm genuinely curious as to why.

I just hope they beef the hell out of the roster with post-launch support, like Killer Instinct got, so it can end up a respectable title. Capcom never ceases to disappoint, man.

I'm more disappointed that wesker is apparently out and Nemesis is apparently in. I'd be more upset with phoenix wright being cut if pw hadn't been awful in umvc3.

Knowing how lazy Capcom has become, this will probably be the cover of the game. Just like that lazy ass cover for SFV.

This cover is neat and it stands out.

Man this thread is has taken a turn into a world of negativity I myself have never known before. :p

Honestly felt like an eternity for the DLC characters in Season 1 to come out. By the time Urien was in I had given up on the game. If Capcom is relying on post-launch DLC to help expand the roster then they need to get those characters out much quicker, regardless of how unrealistic that may or may not be.

Guess when I do play it'll be with a Chris and Nemesis team. Guessing they would choose Nemesis over Wesker to have a "big guy" character on their side compared to hulk.

I agree. Even the Season 2 roll out for SFV is pretty slow.
If they're gonna be dumping characters and stages as seperate purchases among the characters. It's gonna be an agonizingly long road.

The plan is to release the six characters from launch till the end of 2017. So six characters over three months. Which is quick enough. But let's see if they stick to that plan.

The hell is up with this 2v2 bull shit?

You know we have 1v1 games out in the market right now that have more characters than Marvel Infinite may have right?

They are called Tekken 7 and Injustice 2.

But more importantly, the characters that they have apparently chosen don't inspire much confidence either. Injustice 2 had a health dose of new comers/weird characters alongside fan favorites.

And you can bet your candy ass this game is not going to touch the content or quality of side stuff in Injustice 2.

When you put it that way it makes a lot of sense. Chris can also represent post re4 and nemesis can represent pre re4

He's the mvc2 vet in the base roster, thanos in the mvc2 dlc character. My guess based upon the dance around confirmed leak info.

I'm pretty sure those will not be there on Day 1.

SFV's cover was totally fine.

And while the image you posted is bland and generic it's still better than the hideous MvC3 vanilla cover. Still don't know what they were thinking with that one.

Relax your ass, my friend. I said it's not that bad, not that it's ideal. And let's be fair here. Tekken 7 has been out in arcades since 2015 and has been slowly rolling out characters since, Injustice 2 has sugar daddy WB behind it making it rain on the budget and more importantly, what the hell were you people expecting from Capcom in 2017? lol. I think this is a case of being happy with what you get. A year ago people thought Mahvel 4 would never ever happen, ever.

Another disappointing launch it seems like? Man they have not recovered since SFXT.

So what, are the DLC characters going to cost an arm and leg like SFV?

If Nemesis is in then this'll probably be one of my teams as well. I started using different characters when the PS4 release of Ultimate came out since it felt like a fresh start. I used Ghost Rider/Nemesis/Wesker for a few weeks but the team was simply too awful to continue using so I switched it up to Nemesis/Wesker/Dante which is still a bad team (anything with Nemesis is, lol) but I've gotten fairly good results with it (Online win percentage is 76%).

I've been using Chris since 2014. Really fun zoner. His only big problems are unsafe and slow normals and no anti-air projectiles. Chris and Nemesis sounds like a really fun combo and I'm positive they'll improve Nemesis if he's in.

I'd be amazed if they cost cheaper than SFV. I'm guessing $30 for the season pass once again since the deluxe is 90.
Which should be the exact same pricing.

They could have just built on the MvC3 engine + roster and no one would have batted and eye. No one.

Better be Uncle Dante and Wesker in this shit

It would be literally as bad as not putting Megaman in Mvc3......OH WAIT.

YOU CAN'T PUT ANYTHING PAST CAPCOM.

I'm convinced now that the $60 packaged game is a complete mismatch for MvC. They should try out the LoL/HotS business model. Let you use some random selection of un-bought fighters each day, release new characters often, watch the money roll in.

The hardcore people get the enormous roster they want, casuals pick it up because it's super cheap or free, and Capcom has a steady income stream to tie to development so that they don't go bankrupt creating 50 fighters before making a sale.

Also easier to tie into Marvel movie releases, and to take a chance to repopularize some Capcom characters as the opportunity cost is lower.

Yeah my bad, I didn't have gutter, lowest common denominator expectations for a VS game from Capcom.

I should fix my face.

28 characters is lowest common denominator?

How about a new MvC with absolutely no new characters, only 20 characters, 1 vs 1, no story mode, and barebones online with no spectating.

Now thats lowest common denominator

Paging eventhubs in 3...2...1... Lol.

A roster that small is a massive bummer given how few new characters were getting. I guess I should just give up hope on Jin returning, huh? :(

$5 per character is bullshit imo. Especially since you can't demo these new characters to see if you'll like them. These aren't skins or costumes, they're new characters with completely new gameplay styles. How are we supposed to know just be some random trailer if a character is going to be worth that investment?

That would literally never happen though.

This is pretty damn bad and it's worse than most of us were expecting (assuming it's true).

It will be even worse when you cant buy them with game money. In sfv i bought bunch of chars. Fuck with this locking content to dlc shit. All games are moving over from this overwatch, cod, gears etc etc. No way to obtain any dlc within game

Fuck off capcom

Yeah chris is a pretty solid character all around. So him paired with a touched up nemesis should work well enough.

Yeah, I wish there was some sort of demo mode, even if it was training only.

They would still have to remove the Fox characters.

Fine by me. As much as it pains me, it's only a handful of characters.

And yet we have people complaining about some supposed asset reuse here.

What's the matter with people? MVC3 characters were beautifully drawn, animated and brilliantly designed. Sad to say, but we would be lucky if Infinite reaches that quality set by its predecessor come launch.

Eighting, where are you?

I can probably chop down Marvel 3 on PC in terms of characters (down from 50 to 20), change around some properties on moves/mechanics, add a new shader/change lighting, new UI, remove any features and then release it as a full retail product for $60 calling it Marvel 4.

I think lowest common denominator for a GAME COMPANY should be higher than what I can do in my room on a laptop.

you're right it won't happen but this game already has a bigger roster and more modes then Street Fighter V ever did at launch, and that game had Sony's backing too
