EA Play 2017 (E3 Conference) Thread: Hey Mr. Palpatine Man [Over]

I imagine most of the people who watch E3 aren't hardcore sports fans. Not to mention most of the people who watch E3 are probably American, so none of them give a shit about Soccer.

As an American, I get soccer but football and basketball c'mon folks. Sure, 2K has NBA on lock but I got hyped for Madden. I don't buy this assumption that video game fans aren't sports fans as well. I love my NY Mets.

That conference was an F. The only decent thing in it was the Anthem teaser but that's not enough to gain them any points since it was CG.

In general the idea of bringing sport celebrities and real cars onto stage feels like a bad reading of what E3's audience is.

It'd be like cutting into an NHL draft with a guy talking about 1080p graphics in the new NHL game. It's not the right forum.

just watched through the quick thumbnails of the stream on yt. so it was need for speed, sports, this coop indie game and star wars.. did i miss something?

Note to self:

Stop watching EA's conferences
Yeah.

Next time I'll settle for a few five minute youtube recaps afterwards.

Man, bummed to see what NFS is, and disappointed that they didn't show off the campaign or space battles for Battlefront 2 (I mean, beyond five second quick cuts). Multiplayer gameplay looked like chaos mixed with sniping, so no surprises there.

I don't agree with this at all. Those lines don't exist in the main segment. Maybe on dedicated forums but not even then all the time.

This was a solid conference.

They sold me on Battlefield 1 DLC and Star Wars: Battlefront II. NFS Payback actually looks nice. And we got a super nice teaser of Anthem. I'm not sold on A Way Out at all but it was something new. A fine conference, although I wish they had shown more of FIFA 18.

Yeah...I'd give it a 4/10 honestly.

Very Boring IMHO. Only thing that got me interested was A Way Out and Anthem, which was a very small tease.

Too much talking, almost no gameplay other than Star Wars, and way too much emphasis on sports.

Excited for Ronaldo in spandex?

I get the feeling that EA will be the worst conference for most people...

...but then I remember that Nintendo basically is either going to be an F or an A.

I'm not saying they aren't. Most gamers that are hardcore enough sports fans to watch those men in blazers guys probably are a minority of the audience that watches E3.

A Way Out: Looked great. Excellent concept for a game. No idea why they did an edited trailer, then had the dev talk for 5 minutes and forget his line a bunch while saying nothing, then had an explainer trailer where the dev talked you through the game.

I'm just going to yoink this. That said, I don't have enough details about the team writing it. It feels like an approach that would live and die on how the narrative works with the concept. It could make for a number of moment-by-moment "Oh, that's cool." if done well or it can be an uninteresting romp that just requires two-players to crunch through.

I actually played through Brothers for the first time recently, but boy, the game did not digest well for me. It was a neat concept pushed through a sluggish, unpolished puzzler with an okay story regarding family. I remembered hearing so much about it around release, but playing it really took the winds out of my sails regarding the idea behind it.

I could only imagine A Way Out may well be similar. I'll keep an out on it for sure.

Need for Speed: Payback looked liked Fast & Furious.
A Way Out looked interesting.
Anthem reveal was just a teaser.
Battlefront II looked great but they didn't show the singleplayer.

So I would rate this conference C.
