Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

$499 isn't that much, if you're asking a company to try to deliver a VR ready, 4K ready, with high textures console that is still somewhat affordable. A consumer grade entry graphics card for VR is in the $200-230 range for either the GTX 1060 or Radeon 480/580. That's almost half the price MS is trying to price the Scoripo and you still have to figure out how to get the CPU, PSU, motherboard etc. all together for $499.

If you think the price is too high, order when it reaches a price that is comfortable for you.

Yeah, the price is a mistake.

A 4K 60 FPS machine for $500 is a good price if you compare it to the cost of building a PC. But due to the lack of 1st party exclusives on Xbox, it's smarter to invest that $500 into building a 4K capable PC that will have access to a larger library of games.

Love the hedge by Keighley. Either scoop something or don't, none of this "unless" BS.

Probably will buy Day 1 if $400, but at $500? I don't know...

If anything, this tweet has undermined a potential $399 'shock announcement' for me. If it is $499, it's what I expected, if it's $399, I will feel like I have seen through the ruse.

That "Unless something changes today" tells me something will magically change today to make the actual $399 price point look a lot more appealing.

I'm thinking this as well though I'd really like to believe that Geoff isn't sending marketing tweets on Microsoft's behalf.

Either Keighley is doing some guerrilla marketing bollocks where MS look great when they announce $399 (pretty sure the same shit happened back when Sony announced pre-owned and offline) or MS are killing their own new product.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
Would definitely consider Phil's loophole instead, if this is true.

The dude makes a living by being funded by the big 3 to make award shows and this E3 show too. He isn't going to make a massive leak like this without having approval from higher ups at Microsoft.

This is a Hideo Kojima level play. It's all been leading to $399.

Yeah the more I think about it the more it makes sense. He is not gonna piss off MS by leaking the price, it's gonna be $399.

Ever since they first announced it I've had no clue why they think making another Xbone with slightly prettier graphics is a good idea, this only heightens my confusion.

yeah, it's not like the xbone's somewhat inferior graphics were the major reason for the ps4's success. doubling-down on graphics as being some kind 'solution' always struck me as confused thinking, as well...

other than that? i'm thinking ol' jeff might be involved in a little bit of hanky-panky here. mainly because anything above $400 is certain death :) ...

they just need to add a pack-in game, that's the only thing keeping me from buying a pro

Maybe Crackdown 3 or Viva Piñata 3

yea if this is a controlled leak. What's the point of doing this just mere hours before your conference? Just announce it's $400 there. People will be fine with that.

I can see if this was done like a week ago.

Why does Pachter think a $500 Scorpio in Fall will make Sony cut the PS4 Pro price tomorrow?

Because if they can afford to cut the price on the Pro and were going to do it anyway then doing it tomorrow after MS announces a $500 box would be a great way to make the Pro look like a good value proposition and for folks to not bother waiting for the Scorpio.

$499 is a shit fest. It helped kill Xbox One early sales in 2013. £450/$499/€499 it's dead on arrival. What have you done Microsoft?

This was totally what I expected. Y'all are smoking some crack if you thought you were getting all that power for less than $400.

This was always going to be a niche premium product which I why I have never understood the idea that Scorpio is going to "save" the XB, or more importantly, its first party software support.

If I have a 1080p TV what will I even get from this box other than downsampled graphics , probable 60fps and 4k assets in games? What else do I get for €499?

You don't have to defend this. LOL

This price might be acceptable to GAF but the thing will not sell...

but but but the console wars, a profit driven company was supposed to eat shit on each console to win this imaginary war!!!!111one

This is very disappointing and confirms they don't intend to try to get back all the marketshare lost with XB1.

Almost nobody outside their core userbase will buy at that price.

I have a Pro, and thats already too expensive for what you get. And how many buy it, one out of 5 PS4 buyers?

Scorpio hardware looks no different, its also mostly geared towards a 4K experience. Which I think is kinda shitty, don't be cheap with CPU and prioritize those damn framerates.

I never understand Neogaf, you spend this much on headphones and a pair of jeans, but when it's for a 6 teraflop games console, with 10gb ram and a 4k blu-ray drive, the sky has fallen in.

I think most people are not talking about themselves but rather about the general public. People on NeoGAF know that 499 is a fair price for all that the Scorpio offers, but they also know that 499 means it's a really hard sell for non-enthusiasts. And they represent most of the market.
