State of Decay 2 trailer (XB1/PC, Spring 2018)

If I'm being honest I thought this looked really really rough.

Never played the first but can't say this trailer did much to convince me to jump on board
I'd give the original a shot. It wasn't about the graphics but everything else running under the hood.
Devs are at YT live now. You can scroll back on the stream. Started about 20 min ago.

Good to hear you can easy kick people out of the group.
Cars can run out of fuel.
Well, $5 says I run out of gas outside some farmhouse and then get mobbed by a ton of zombies.

Here we go...

I double dipped... I played the original on the 360 when it came out and I just bought the Xbox One year edition that's on sale for E3...

I couldn't wait for 2 to come out. 10$ for the game is a REAL bargain. So anyone not sure about State of Decay 2, I really suggest you try State of Decay to build an opinion.

yes, it's not the most beautifull game out there but the gameplay mecanics are amazing.

Wow. I was really looking forward to this but man, it looks dated. The graphics look bad. What's up at Microsoft? I guess long development schedules are killing them. This and Crackdown 3 I was very excited for but both look so poor graphically, that I think I may just pass.

SoD wasn't a looker in its time either, I think it's fair to say.

It always bugs me how some people are ridiculously hard on Undead labs. They are a little studio doing a project they love and, imo, turned out an impressive first outing with the original. Sure it had jank and whatever but it was an incredible xbox arcade title when it came out. I don't think any other arcade game managed to come close to giving a full open world game experience when it was released. The game was so goddamned deep & addicting, it amazed me what this little team was able to do.
I dunno if undead labs receiving backing from MS makes them target or sets the bar higher than it should but as far as I'm concerned that doesn't mean they deserve to raked over the coals at every opportunity.

I think the reason I'm so disappointed in this like many others is that the flaws with the first game were so obvious and stuck out like a sore thumb but the game was so fresh and something we never quite got before that we could over look them like maybe Player's Unknown Battleground is being received now.

For them in the sequel with the full backing of Microsoft now to not solve the "Jank" from the first game that was obvious to everyone who enjoyed the first game, seems like a huge disappointment.

But I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that her line was probably just edited into the trailer. I remember characters lips moving when they talked in the last game.

Yeah, I thought it was weird but I had the same thought - they did it in the first so I expect they'll do it here.

Also a double-dipper with more than 700 hours into the two. It's a tremendous play experience with pressure and stakes and lots to do. I love this game, and can't say I ever died due to bugs though once to the camera not keeping up with me. >< RIP Alicia.

My friend who's at E3 says they don't have a booth or anything at all for this, just an interview room, which surprised me. Must need a lot more finishing than we expected by this time, but I'm willing to wait for it. Plenty to play in the meantime.

That "big bases now make more noise" aspect sounds incredible.

Love the risk/reward they're adding here. More tactical choices has always been high on my list of desires for the sequel.

Yeah, hope they make it so other characters may disagree with your choices and things come to a head if your choice has disastrous consequences.

first game was dated graphically BUT the game was awesome.

75% of the comments here you can clearly tell they never played the first one.

I haven't been keeping up with the improvements at all. Has anyone came across a list of simulation changes? Like someone mentioned over a thousand traits now.

I know lol.

The first game was a real jank fest, but it was the endearing kind. Always loved how low budget so much of the game looked, because you could tell real passion went into the details that popped like interiors and such.

The sequel looking janky is honestly making it a bit more appealing, it's like they haven't forgotten their foundation. And literally every thing that they're including in the game sounds fantastic as a big fan of the original. Only thing I'm still a bit iffy on is Co-op but fortunately the game doesn't seem to be entirely designed around that.

The E3 Live video ran through a few of them. One was that noise in the base will attract zombies, which wasn't the case before. The two examples they used were improving your base through construction or use of a generator would be noisy and would attract zombies.

That's the only one I remember from their conversation. I added a time stamp to the video so that you can check it out.

Details like kids' underwear lying on the floor, left behind when people were fleeing. :(

This does still look jank but I'm down. It's sorta crazy how long this game has taken to make. Not as bad as Below or Cuphead but jesus you'd think these guys were making the most polished game ever or their online project.

Good lord, those facial animations make Mass Effect Andromeda look good. I couldn't help but laugh at that female character throughout the whole trailer. The characters in the first game didn't even look as bad as that. I sincerely hope they're not charging $60 for this.

Huh? This was announced last year.

Thanks, I'm kind of disappointed by the coop. I wish you had the option to make a save for a joined world. Like save 1 is my world, but save 2 is our world. Wherein you could all swap between the characters available, gather loot for your base, make choices together, etc. The drop-in system is good too, for randoms at least, but not the same. It's not our world, you're just a visitor.

I wonder how the stamina, and health, will work for extended sessions. Will you have to keep leaving and rejoining to swap? It didn't take long at all for nonathletic survivors to get exhausted.

To be fair they have almost a year to keep working on it.

I am watching their interview on Mixer on the X1 right now from yesterday's E3 Live thing, with Major Nelson, and Mixer is great but when they show games in motion though, theres this weird bad refresh rate going making a lot of stuff look double...anyone else getting this...?

Anyway,Interested in this one even though its not a looker.

Looking at your Avatar mon ami, I can tell you're from my part of the world.
Haven't noticed you before Ti-mé!

On subject, I watched that interview on YT and didn't notice what you're talking about... maybe a Mixer issue?

The shared world thing is how I play the original with my husband - we just take turns and hang out and play. So I'm glad for something different.

No guide, just have fun. Although I will tell you that in my experience melee combat was almost always more effective than ranged combat. Quieter too.

+1 to melee recommendation. Also Breakdown is best mode. But do story first.

Can't wait. Most of the negative comments are obviously from people who never played the first and have no clue as to how its appeal is based on the wide array of choices, strategy, underlying role-playing systems, wonderfully oppressive atmosphere, perma-death finality, etc.... My wish-list for a sequel was short: Basically, add co-op and tidy up the bugs. The sequel looks to be doing both while also making it a lot prettier and increasing the size of the world. If they can smooth out the animation jank a bit it'll likely be my GOTY just like the original. I'm glad UL delayed the release...better they get this right and add in everything they possibly can.

The first is currently on sale so I have a few questions:

I played the first on the 360, but stopped (I dont know why, I liked it).

Is the dlc good ?
How long does it take to complete the game ?
How is the framerate ?
Is it worth a buy ?

Thanks !

That's not the really the same.

I'm not really sure how this is better. Choosing whose world to join will be a pain, and honestly, more often then not lead to me just playing alone. With randoms it's fine, they're just jumping in for a few minutes to help, like Dark Souls, but this really hurts extended sessions with friends. Where you'll have to neglect your story, and world, to play with them. Reminds me of Far Cry 4, which had a similar system. I guess their banking on 1 in 4 players enjoying the sim aspects, while the other 3 only care about zombie killing and cooperative play.

this was another weird one at the MS conference. they would have been better showing off the dynamic nature of the actual gameplay imo rather then attempt to create a more cinematic trailer. all it did was show off the bad animations and visuals.

i honestly thought this was going to get a AAA treatment but it seems the devs are still working on a low budget. it's a shame because the first one was a pretty good foundation.

I only played the original story mode back then and I restarted it again so I can't help you with the DLC question.

Frame rate, see aswer above. ^

Worth a buy?!? It will probably be the best 10$ investment gamewise you'll ever make. But, you know, I like the game and don' tmind the jank so it's just my opinion...
