I'm replaying Prime 2 right now and one thing I hope Prime 4 gives the flick is respawning enemies. I haven't got a problem with backtracking, but it gets annoying when I have to put up with the same enemies again and again. Most of the time I completely ignore them and just run straight past them - but if I can do that, then what's the point in them respawning?

I'm sure there isn't in the OG release, but I'm unsure as to whether they did something to fix this in the trilogy version. I don't think they did.

I'm pretty sure Prime 3 marks the missiles you've collected. Prime 1 and 2 don't (including the Prime Trilogy versions) as far as I know.

Bummer. At least the game is pretty easy so far so I guess getting all that stuff is more for completionists than a casual run.

First in the list of improvements I want in MP4: BotW-like pin system for the map. I'm gonna guess there's no such thing in MP2 or 3 either :p

so have you guys figured out who's designing this yet? is it more likely to be internaly developed by nintendo or not?

That one poster who knows a lot about Nintendo and its development teams is certain it's NLG. I'm confused by the "new team" thing Nintendo mentioned. It could mean a developer who has never made a Metroid game before, like NLG or it could mean a newly formed internal team.

Shikamaru knows a lot about Nintendo but he has no insider information whatsoever. He knows as much as we do and you shouldn't take his word as gospel.

It would be kinda lame if the world was just dead after you cleared it. As it is you have the option to fight or just run past.

Anyone else noticed the logo is exactly the same as Metroid Prime 3 Corruption? They just removed the 3 and slapped it there. This game must be so damn early in development it doesn't even has it's own logo. Only the number 4 must be original.

Was the first thing I noticed.

Watching two metroid threads about two amazing looking new games both on the front page of GAF is really making my day lol. What a time to be alive as a gamer :D

So I'm thinking of picking up a 3ds again soon, how was Federation Force in the end? As awful as expected? I'd be playing it in single player.

Sorry to go off topic by the way.

I did not expect much and still ended up hating it. The single player is a slog and if you happen to die you have to start the missions all over again from the beginning. The CO-OP is a slight improvement if you can even manage to find somebody online because i doubt many people would want to play it locally but its still so incredibly boring. All the missions are completely uninspired . If you are even thinking of playing this dont bother. This is the type of game that is not even worth playing if it was for free because it is a complete waste of time and millions of better options to chose from exist. It is the worst Nintendo game i have ever played if not the worst game i have ever played. Which sucks because i wanted to give NLG a benefit of a doubt. Nothing about Federation Force is even worth discussing it should just be buried and forgotten.

Metroid Prime 3 itself had a different logo when it was revealed, just a recolor of the Prime 1/2 fonts.

Federation Force did the same thing, it could be intentionally consistent branding within the subseries, looking at how dramatically different the Samus Returns logo is.

Guess this is the best place to ask since all the MP1 veterans are here.

In MP1, is there some way to check where you've gotten a missile or energy upgrade already so looking for the ones you're missing isn't a total pain in the ass? :p

Nope.

I'm replaying Prime 2 right now and one thing I hope Prime 4 gives the flick is respawning enemies. Yea, it's a drag. Especially when it's those annoying special ability space pirates. In Super Metroid and so on, most enemies are just creates hanging out in the environment that are downed in a few quick shots. But when the respawns are always intense minute long battles unless I wanna waste a bunch of missiles it's ...yea.

That's true, my mistake. I wish I could remember the name, but that poster was very certain that NLG is making Prime 4 with Tanabe.

Shikamaru Ninja.

know yo gaffers. :p

Remember the SMT x FE aka TMS#FE announcement in January 2013? This is that.

Botw engine

engines are decided on based on what your game needs. perspective, area size, interactions, etc. not how it looks or what genre it is. just saying.

It's super funny to see reaction videos where people """"""""""""""""""""lose"""""""""""""""""" their shit at metroid prime 4 as if it's their favorite series of all time but don't recognize the title theme of the first game.
I have a friend who is a HUGE Metroid fan and didn't lose his shit until the S because we were talking over Discord so nobody heard the theme. Don't be so edgy..

Ugh that boxart is so bad.

But yeah the MP4 logo has to be a placeholder for now. I wonder if it'll get a subtitle. I hope not.

Listen to the ambient sound. You can get 100% quite easily if you pay attention to visual/aural cues.

If there's an upgrade you can't get when you enter a room the first time, it is pretty much always a room you need revisit.

I wonder if the graphics and design will be closer to this:

than to that:

More like the gritty and gloomy classic design, or a more modern, slick, graphical showcasing look?

The logo of the game doesn't indicate how far in development it is...

If I remember correctly, the second screenshot is a Metroid model with a broken material slapped on top of a default Unreal Engine demo level. Why do you even bring this shit up? It does not represent anything.

I wouldn't be surprised if Metroid Prime 4 is a holiday 2018 title. Showing a logo doesn't mean much when it comes to Nintendo. It doesn't tell you how long they've been in development for.

I still think it'll be a 2019 title though.

Yeah I'm also starting to suspect it's been in the works longer than we might think at first. Reggie basically hinted in January that we'd be getting quite a bit of Metroid news this year, and Tanabe hinted that plans seemed nearly underway for a MP4 all the way back in 2015. I wouldn't be surprised if pre-production actually begun in 2016.

Maybe they didn't show any footage because they know the logo alone would be enough to capture people's attention, and that it gives Samus Returns a better chance to stand on its own when it releases.

Then releasing footage later will be just as big of an announcement (if not bigger) than the announcement of the logo itself. Could wind up being very smart marketing.

I'm sure there's been parallels drawn already, but "Samus Returns" Samus looks a lot like Phazon Samus. Maybe it means nothing.
Samus Returns has a lot of aesthetic design elements from Prime. Just look at the Chozo statues and architecture.

There are reaction videos where people see the S, hear the music, see the 4 and are guessing smash bros, pokemon, when finally the metroid prime title appears they lose their shit. I am talking about those people.

I would be pretty (pleasantly) surprised, if we played this in 2018. I wonder how long an HD Metroid is going to take and what this "new" team brings to HD and Metroid development. Also wonder when it all started.

Tanabe could have been obscuring the fact that it had, but his interview reads like it hadn't back in 2015.

I'm betting either really late 2018 or mid 2019

Anybody expecting them to drop the "4" from the title?

Its been awhile since the last Prime game and I don't see them releasing a trilogy collection. Probably best for the new audience who are going to play their first Prime game.

I'm of the opposite mindset - they'll probably experiment on control options using Trilogy and then release Trilogy HD to pad the wait for Prime 4.

All I hope is that they don't release it in stupidly limited quantities this time.

I think "working title" means they don't have a subtitle like Echoes or Corruption yet, but they may drop it to avoid blocking people new to the series.

About the collection, i actually think it could drop next year. It just makes sense.

Depends really on how long till Prime 4 is out. But maybe they don't want a abundance of Primes out to wore people out (probably a poor reason on my part). I'll happy take a trilogy tho, wasn't a fan of motion controls.

Nah, i think "working title" means they don't have a subtitle like Echoes or Corruption yet.
Yeah, That what a meant, it would be Metroid Prime: "Sub Title". just no Number.

Maybe Dread like the old rumors lol

I think the 4 will stay in order to differentiate it from spinoffs like Hunters and Federation Force. I also think this will wind up being by far the best selling MP game because of the sorta cult/mystique status the series has gotten in the past 10 years. A lot of the reactions to this announcement were from people who clearly had never played MP1-3, but I don't think that makes their enthusiasm for MP4 any less real. It's just that this was considered (by some) to be a very dead franchise with a very vocal fanbase, and all of a sudden it's back. I don't think a number in the title will put people off from trying it out.

Also I think we're going to see a trilogy collection, though possibly digital only and possibly not remastered in any way. Which is essentially what the Wii U got.

Good I really hate the "Hey I imported a 3D model into UE4 with default lighting" pictures. They look so ugly. Look at Yoshi, shoes what you can do without the default UE4 settings. Same with Dragonball

Yeah, Reggies comments is what made me think this. He said it way back in January which means this game started in 2016. I think they didn't show footage on purpose because let's be honest they don't need too.

I'm predicting we'll see the first gameplay footage at the VGA's in December. Just like BotW in 2014 they announced it at E3 and showed footage at the VGA's. They did show a tiny bit at E3 2014 so my prediction could be off, but if they're a good ways into development I think the VGA's is a nice play to reveal the first footage, especially since it's for the western audience.
