Look forward to it, it must be years since it's had a solid change to the desktop client outside of the store pages.

I'm still using Library List View with small icons.

I think we had a thread on this, although the initial focus was different.
Regardless, great! Hopefully it's all good, and that custom theme makers can adapt easily. I need to get my mom one that makes things just a tad bigger.

I can't wait for them to throw shit at the wall again and hope it sticks like they always do, and then take 5 years to fix it.

That said, Steam is in desperate need of a large UI update so I hope it works well.

If it's missing high-dpi support and support for the precision touchpad API in Windows I'll be disappointed.

Still, looking forward to this. The current Steam interface was built in a world of low-dpi monitors, older interface design and very traditional hardware (keyboard and mouse).

Things have moved on since then, so I hope Valve accommodates new expectations.

We had a thread on mockups for the UI refresh earlier this year.

They're still mockups, of course. It doesn't mean the UI refresh is going to look like that.

I still welcome a complete overhaul of the UI.

It's in need of a design overhaul, and the user experience can feel really clunky at times (especially with Steam Browser integration). Look forward to it.

For you.
Steam client is so unbelievably dated looking. I think people just have nostalgia for it at this point.
Not like there is anything better right now. Uplay and Origin both sacrifice functionality for pointless minimalism. They would also be a nightmare through with bigger libraries.

Isn't this like the third or fourth thread on this? Seems like people are putting more work in writing about the possible new update, than Valve is in developing it.

It's straight up terrible at the moment. It has a ton of features that are buried beneath menus and under settings that don't make sense. Adding friends was a nightmare (couldn't remember what my user name was and spent 5mins trying to find it), family sharing wasn't the most intuitive thing to set up and the recommendation system is bust.

I swear, I feel like I've been reading about Steam getting its UI shit together for almost a decade, whilst managing to look how I remember it looking a decade ago.

Ugh the UI is awful right now, shows games as available and when I click on them they are not released

With all the problems Steam has with an outdated UI, this is an odd issue. If you purchase a game prior to release, it's going to show up in your library so you can confirm the purchase and preload the game.
It's assumed the consumer is aware of the game's release date at that point.

Ugh, I always use the minimal UI so I don't have to see the extended launch page already. If it's slow to load because of a bunch of community stuff that will be annoying, especially since Steam sometimes gets broken where nothing on your profile and no community pages will load at all until you totally restart the client.

And in addition to all that, I don't want to see any community screenshots when I launch a game because of the troll spoiler risk. It's already annoying that they got rid of the old single click store link from a friend's right click menu, and now you have to jump to the community page, wait for it to load, and THEN jump to the store page.

What is peoples problem with the UI? It doesn't look "outdated", it just has problems with stuff being really hidden, stuff that should be a bit obvious.

Apart from that, it functions well.

There's a huge amount of dissonance between different sections of the client and it's ugly and overly masculine, a product of the bygone era of PC gaming pandering almost exclusively to Exxxtreme Gamerz.

I really hope they don't ruin the category system. I have hundreds of games organized into 6 categories.
I don't want my organization to be overridden because some game I have got an update.
That's an advertisement for a game I already own.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
It looks like they are trying to incorporate elements that are available on the store pages (such as reviews) into the client itself, which is smart. I've been a Steam user since 2011 and aside from some gradient changes and "under the hood" stuff like big picture mode and controller interfaces, the library tab hasn't changed much visually.

I'm optimistic that these changes will be a good thing.

I'm not looking forward to making a mad rush to fix Enhanced Steam when the store pages get updated though.

Good but i have to say the current one is not that bad. If you guys want to see a really bad one check out the one from Bethesda for their stuff. Oh boy

I'm not against changes though I really only launch/install games with Steam and occasionally join game via friends list, everything works quite well with only a few clicks already.

I hope disabling time tracking and achievement earning will finally become an option (GOG Galaxy has it, AFAIK). Both features are a big turn-off to me, and I prefer to play Steam games in the offline mode whenever possible because of them.
