McConnell concedes GOP may not be able to repeal ObamaCare

My boss, a huge Republican, is positive that the GOP is purposefully tanking the whole thing so they won't be blamed for the "inevitable" Obamacare implosion. But like... how could they not be blamed for all of this?

Does he think purposefully letting "Obamacare implode" is noble of the Republicans if he believes they truly have a viable alternative in place that could help save people's lives?

They control the government. If this goes to shit, it's on them.

The way McConnell talks I love how making a bipartisan bill is supposed to be a bad thing. I'm glad other Senators aren't caving in to his threats. This health care bill looks awful and for this health care bill to be successful needs to be a true bipartisan bill.

Same dude that told Obama that hes hurting himself by being in the same room as him and stole a SCJ.

I agree. He doesn't see it this way for whatever reason.

As far as I can tell, he thinks there is no plan other than "let it implode, blame Obama, maybe go single payer by force?" and he hates the idea of having to pay for my insurance, since my plan is like $150 a month and his is, I guess, close to $1000 (or so he says).

Come to think of it, I have yet to see any actual copy of a rich person's insurance bill.

Your boss is a fucking moron.

Tanking the whole thing is making a decision on healthcare. No matter what they do, it's a decision, and whatever happens after that decision is on their heads. They're accountable for everything now, they control the government.

Having complete control and being able to do less in over half a year than you ever have before is demoralizing as fuck. I'm glad they're getting humiliated and it's entirely their own fault from every angle

This is also assuming they ever really thought it would happen and wasn't more than just an easy political scape goat to ride.

Life was pretty sweet for them when they could all but call Obama a nigger, talk some shit and go about their day.

Most of these fuckers never expected to, or wanted to have to govern.

Just look at assholes like Jason Chaffetz, mr watchdog, mr GOTTA GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS!!

"OH fuck all the power is in my parties hands? You know I'm really done with politics..."

I mean, there's not gonna be a bipartisan bill. At most they'll be a bill to somewhat stabilize Obamacare, which isn't a long term solution by itself. Even that's doubtful.

Must be stressful being such a useless old fart and knowing that you will die a failure, with no legacy other than your reputation as an obstructionist prick.

While factually you are correct that they should be held accountable they have been sabotaging Obamacare for years now and people still don't blame them for it. I need to start seeing at least moderates starting to take them to task and GOP losing seats before i start believing their really being held accountable.

On the bright side, that incompetence is probably helping this period not be as bad as it could be.

For sure, for damn sure. If this whole thing comes down and everyone complicit in it, gets the book thrown in their faces. I see a massive change coming to america and how it handles elections and the elimination of dark money and the like. Especially off-shore accounts. That enables conflict to creep further into a already heightened political process and optics. So that means cleaning up the process itself and cracking down on voter suppression and gerrymandering.

Plus some stricter requirements and background checks on Presidential candidates. Just encase they may have ties or allegiances that, would compromise america, it's agendas and it's allies. Don't know why we have it be so, unrestricted.

We need a big update. This crazy shit when it ends, will spark it.

Oh wait. This clown is gona push the narrative that they "saved" the healthcare industry from imploding under Obamacare ain't he?

Get fucked, turtle.

We shouldn't make fun of people's appearance even if they look like Dana Carvey ate a wax sculpture of JohnnyCab from Total Recall, shat it out in one poop and stuck glasses on it to pass as human.

If the GOP pivoted to Single Payer or at least a public option right now, they'd be a little more comfy for 2018. But a lot of bad moves gonna have quite a lot of seats turn blue, if they stay this course.

I don't think his constituents actually care. His best bet might to be to do what he can to fuck over the current markets, prevent them from stabilizing anywhere sane, and then just keep pointing his fingers at the Democrats and saying "I'll fix it!". But he and any of his fellow Congressmen could also just start killing people on TV and I really doubt any of their constituents would actually care.

They will succeed in passing their bill eventually.

It can work; they can't replace it with something people will be happy with, period, it is impossible for them to get the votes. So they have to wait for people to be happy with anything. There's really no alternative. They can always say that even if some in the GOP won't vote for their bill, it's proof that the bill is not partisan, so Democrats need to do their part and vote for it.

The American people won't turn around and accept that they were stupid in voting against the Democrats.

Watch the narrative that will emerge over the coming weeks, it will be all about how we need a non-partisan bill, and that will put significant pressure on the Democrats. Pay attention.

And for a moment I thought his disagreement with the senate bill was because he found a spine for a moment. Instead he's disagreeing with the bill because it doesn't do enough to fuck people over with pre-existing conditions? Are you kidding me Ted?

America's moral foundation, built on 'Judeo-Christian' values, as per Ted Cruz.

This is a bit like what happened in Australia when universal health care was brought in. The conservatives kept trying to get rid of it and voters kept them out of office because voters very quickly decided that they liked universal health care. They didn't get back into office till they changed their tune.
Maybe Obamacare has changed the state of play now that many in the GOP are finding that their constituency want it to stay. 2018 will be the big test. If they survive electorally then they may well ditch it. If they don't they may just be forced to change their paradigm (I won't hold my breath).

"Wait for people to be happy with anything"? When you say "people", who are you referring to? The majority of Americans already approve of the ACA and only 30% actually want it to be repealed. Sure, everyone wants improvements, but the only people still clamoring for a full-on repeal and replace are the more vocal, far-right sectors of the Republican party. The GOP would actively piss off more people by repealing Obamacare than by simply changing/fixing it at this point. The only people who would be happy with "anything" are far-right Republicans.

I just can't envision the current GOP being remotely cunning or smart enough to actually lure Democrats into this optics-driven trap you're describing. Besides, even if the GOP ends up trying to corner Democrats on this whole thing, it's not like the Dems would somehow be powerless to stand up to the Republicans and not call them out for their bullshit. They've been doing just that non-stop ever since Trump, Ryan and McConnell embarked on this whole idiotic crusade of theirs a few months back.

The Republicans in congress have been making themselves look like fools these last few months with this whole repeal and replace thing. All Democrats would have to do is say "Hey, we've been wanting to work with these assholes on improving healthcare from the start, but they've deliberately been locking us out. Now they've come crying to us because they realized most Americans like the idea of universal healthcare now and don't want it taken away from them".

I said the Republicans will draw this out until ACA is broken enough to HAVE to be replaced or amended. At that point, a few Dems in some states can be lured to vote in favor of the Rep's proposal, which will be heavily marketed as non-partisan partially as a result of some of their own not voting for it. It's not like they need all the Dems, they need a few votes to make up for the lost ones on their end, and you're looking at it based on today's view of the ACA, of which the popularity is peaking now as people get familiar with it, but which can only fall from here on out.

The only way to prevent this is to undermine the idea that it needs to be repealed, instead selling the point that it needs to be improved and that the Republicans are going in the wrong direction as a result since they want to repeal it. For that to happen, Dems need some serious quality far-reaching advertisement to make the point.

Actually this is a rare instance of dems being on message: "let's work together to fix the issues with Obamacare "

What I don't understand is how hard it is to get a single payer system in place. Obamacare was just a band aid on a gaping wound of the pathetic nature that is health care in America. As a Canadian, I find it fucking mind boggling that people don't have free access to health care. Like I mean that is fucking insane!

Yet, when I see American politicians talk about it on television, I get the feeling they think universal health care is some sort of theoretical concept, never before tried. It just seems like bizzaro world, where the things I've experienced growing up in my country must be some sort of falsehoods. Or that these people, just don't simply believe they work as they do.

I think its honestly pathetic. Both Democrats and Republicans have failed to provide the American public with any sort of path to single payer. The fact of the matter is that they have had decades to do something about it, and never have. What an embarrassment.
