Wow, that seems crazy to me. What's the point of sending in people with rifles? These are mostly drunk rioters.

I wouldn't call people with mollys and stone on rooftops drunk rioters

Armed guys are GSG9 right now with austrian COBRA troops

They're clearing a building, I guess so they can move further down the street. Not used against rioters.

edit: Police apparently said people were on the roof preparing stuff to throw onto police.

Doubt there will be any shot fired also. Just moving them in because they have more experience with possible trouble in those close areas then regular police officers.

Lots of GSG9(You can identify them easily because they have no state emblem on their arm) and COBRA moving in.

Also one here that is standing on the side of protesters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BAa5gHfhjk

They might be against the current systems, but they 1) don't care about offering an alternative or solution and 2) are now there to fuck things up. To frame this as some kind of protest from people that want change is stupid.

You say they don't want change, but it's pretty obvious hey don't want things to stay the same. Civil unrest comes in many forms.

The whole thing feels weird to me. Of course I don't condone the rioters, but I'm kind of glad they are not beaten to a pulp by the police. They are shitty people but I feel like they are the price we pay for having an open democracy.
Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I rather pay that price than live with the alternative.

Nah, they really aren't interested in that. They are just rioting to riot. There is no cause here, there is no movement, this is just people being idiots.

Police are doing a good job with it now it seems, but it needed to happen a few hours ago already.

Friend of mine in Hamburg is saying the demonstrations are concentrated only in one part of town. In his neighborhood there are no riots. Let's hope it doesn't spread at least.

While this is true there are also reports of burning cars far away from the city center. Two cars burned down at an outskirt district where I grew up, just one street away from my mother's place.

Fuck those people.

NTV reports
- 197 police men injured
- press not allowed to (physically) follow the police on their operation in the Schanzenviertel; photographer who filmed them/followed was hit with baton

What were they thinking picking Hamburg as a venue - the centre of the riots has a long history of protests and an established scene that knows the place in and out of course.
I hope people whose property was damaged get some support from the government and the city because this is also on them.
