Well at least Splatoon should have legs, even if it's coming out on a platform that can't currently manage the install base to match interest in the title. Really is a sad situation.

Looks like SE trying to keep its "One AAA game a year" promise.

2016:FFXV
2017:DQ11
2018:KH3
2019:FF7 remake or Avengers.

It's actually 1 or 2 AAA/Big games per fiscal year. This is my current bet:

- FY2018: DQXI
- FY 2019: KH 3 + Shadow of the Tomb Raider
- FY 2020: FF7 Remake + The Avengers Project

Going by previous interviews and financial reports, it looks like they have decided what'll be released until FY2020. However, delays could always happen (and this being S-E... it's very likely).

My local yodobashi report again this week. Same 200 units available as last week, but way more people.

With that schedule they could also quite likely make FF7 and The Avengers into cross-gen projects, which would make a lot of sense for the first game of a trilogy and a service title.

FFVIIr for PS5 is good in words, but do developer and comsumer ready for it? especially Japan market that just barely adopt PS4 on this recent 1-2 years.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

To note, there's always an FF and KH release every year, even if they aren't major. So I guess next year it's just Dissidia FF? Hopefully we get something like FF7 Compilation HD (Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, and maybe Before Crisis using FFVII's engine/assets).

This is hilarious but I do feel bad for all the kids that are going to miss Splatoon's launch window.

seriously, I'd make a change in the rules and let 10 kids that have their birthday on that week be able to buy a switch directly without lottery

Do we think the YSO predictions due later today will show retailer predicted Switch numbers alongside Splatoon numbers?

Damn that Splatoon 2 prediction. Hope they're right, I need to get to 1050k sold this month for my prediction league bet.

Edit: Also, that MK8D number suggests they expect only approximately 50k-60k Switch units? Really hope it'll be more.

Lol. That's the range I've internally been thinking but the recent talk on this thread has/had me doubting.

Should be fascinating

Ehh I doubt that is the thinking. I mean, if Splatoon 2 is going to be selling to 3/4's of the userbase, probably not that much room for a ton of other software.

Yeah no I'm optimistic about Splatoon 2 but even I know that it won't sell 900k. What even would be the userbase ratio ? 80% ?

An opening close to 900k on such a limited userbase would be insane. True phenomenon and finally exciting times for sales discussion after the spring/early summer slump.

Again, we'll see in a little over a week but high numbers are a lot more possible if you assume many Switch owners have been buying the system for Splatoon 2.

If predictions come true Splatoon 2 will beat New Leaf's opening weekend (600k physical + 200k digital on a 8m userbase).

Super Smash Bros. Melee was the last game with so insane attach rate for a non launch title.

If those estimates are correct, Splatoon single handedly saving gaming in Japan.
Think DQXI will do similar numbers?

That should keep PS4 afloat with MonHun + many other games. PS4 could sell much better than PS3

You think PS4, at under 5 million sold, could sell "much better" than 10 million LTD?

Honestly, DQ needs to open to more than twice that to not be considered sorta underwhelming. First traditional mainline DQ in a while and it's multiplat.

I'd imagine Zelda will get a bigger boost than MK, splatoon will keep people satisfied multiplayer wise so if people are picking up a second game i think they'll go for the single player

That Splatoon 2 prediction is insane. I was thinking more along the lines of 600-700k, which would already be very good.

I hope the Switch gets a notable stock increase so games like Zelda can benefit as well.

jonno394

They have Splatoon 2 bundles so the stock has to atleast be bigger than 100k right ?

You'd hope so. To me the hardware numbers for this and the following weeks are more important than the actual Splatoon 2 numbers. Sure big Splatoon 2 launch is great, but low hardware shows that the promised increase to production still hasn't taken effect/still isn't good enough.

Lowest prediction for Splatoon 2 is 650k, so even at worst they expect it to be on par with FFXV.

If it manages to outdo it it'd be the biggest first week for a console game since New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

this is a fucking tragedy for nintendo.

they could sell, what, 300k switches in a week?

instead they'd sell like 60k.

what a major fuck up of epic proportions.

Obviously Splatoon 2 is going to be huge- that's a given- I think what I'm most curious about is the impact on software, both already released (BoTW, MK8, ARMS) and what will be out soonish (MH XX, Pokken, FE Warriors). Is the surge of new switch owners (presumably higher hardware sales starting next week) going to have a positive impact on catalog titles and upcoming releases? Or is Switch going to solely be a Splatoon 2 machine until the end of the year and drown out everything else?

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Those Splatoon 2 predictions are crazy..if it comes anywhere close this, wow.

I think Splatoon 2's release can only help other titles at this point.

MK8D releasing didn't stop Zelda from selling, just like Arms releasing didn't stop MK8D from selling, etc. I think they're all different enough that they'll maintain their sales momentum, if not benefit from the increased hardware sales.

As for upcoming titles, they have their own appeal as well. MHXX is the first MH on the system and has a bundle, so it'll do decent enough. Pokken will probably do similar to the original game, if not better. Fire Emblem Warriors will be the first major single player experience since Zelda, and I think it'll do similar to Hyrule Warriors (maybe better considering it's on a superior system).
