THR: Catfish directors to helm Mega Man movie for Fox

Remember Catfish? No you don't but Hollywood does.

Video game Mega Man is heading to the big-screen with Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the filmmakers behind the documentary Catfish, in final negotiations to write and direct.
Chernin Entertainment is producing the project with Heroes actor Masi Oka. Twentieth Century Fox worked for two years to acquire the rights for over two years, finally closing a deal earlier this year.

Mega Man's back guys!
Just not in a way anyone wants.

As a kid I loved Mega Man so much that I wish I played him in the live action movie. Even though I'm black, it could have worked in the mid-90s.

I've always thought there could actually be an interesting story to tell in a similar manner of the X lore about a sentient combat android sent by humans to stamp out other sentient robots and androids as they attempt to assert themselves as more than slave labor for the humans. I have no faith in it ever happening, nor happening well as an actual Mega Man movie, especially if Capcom is allowed any control over it.

"Will this finally be the video game film that doesn't suck", we ask for the 1700th time, knowing the answer already

Watch the 4 episodes of Castlevania together and you will get what you are looking for.

Was real worried it was the hosts behind the Catfish TV Show. Although I still have no idea what the fuck we'd expect from a Mega Man movie...

If they want this film to work, my best piece of advice would be to go looking at the concept albums by The Protomen. The lore's obviously different from the games, but I think it'd probably be a better fit for the cinema that way.

The Catfish guys writing and directing a Mega Man film.

A move that satisfies no one.

Perhaps the Mighty No. 9 guys can get Terrence Malick to direct a film for them?

Just curious, what about the Catfish documentary speaks at all to how this movie is going to turn out? Have you even seen the Catfish doc?

I mean, Megaman has a wider history of adaptations than most game franchises, particularly after the turn of the century. Plus looking at the filmography of the possible directors, I can sorta see handing off a franchise about the potential and dangers in technology to them, even if they'd be more suited to a Battle Network adaptation in particular.

Still not holding my hopes especially high though.

I didn't even know there was going to be a mega man movie. Thought it was just the Disney Show. Well I guess we know a game has to happen at this point.

Catfish was a pretty entertaining documentary. I think their most recent fictional movie was "Nerve" last year. It was an OK movie.
