Yeah, this looks like VC to me. Were those SNES and NES controller logos even used in the minis?

the NES one is on the NES Mini in white with a Red Background on the box.

still as I commented before, could be VC compatibility with a Retro Adapter and they making more N64 controllers with the Wii plug like the controllers that come with NES and SNES mini

OH BABY YES. Pleaseeee include at LEAST 20 games. Not 10. Not 15. 20!

I'll have to do a post of what I want to see later.

Can't say I really want an N64 mini. Sure, there's a handful of awesome N64 games, but a lot of the big hitters (OoT, Majora's Mask, Starfox 64) have vastly superior 3DS remakes, and the other stuff is already easily available elsewhere (Mario 64), didn't age well (GoldenEye), or wouldn't be able to be brought over because of licensing issues (Diddy Kong Racing, Conker, Perfect Dark).
I've been wanting a N64 ever since I got rid of mine to upgrade to GameCube as a Kid.
Really hoping I'll be able to find one of these when it comes out.

Nintendo 64 mini with Turok, Doom 64 and Donkey Kong 64?

Ok.
Yes yes yes! I would love to have those again!! Two of my childhood favorites!

That game has Rare characters.
Just got me thinking - how awesome would it be if Nintendo partnered with MS/Rare to get Playground games to make a new Diddy Kong raceing for both Xbox and switch?! Will never happen, but would be amazing...

This BETTER happen. Please do it in the different transparent colors the N64 was originally available in. Oh baby... That would get my blood going.

US$120
4 controllers with decently lengthy cords
Locked framerates
Mario, Smash, Mario Kart, Mario Party 2, Star Fox, Ocarina, Majora's, Waveracer, Paper Mario, Rogue Squadron. Rare games = cherry on top but not deal breaker if missing.

No Goemon, no buy. Best game on N64 and top 10 soundtrack all time.
I would buy it even without Goemon for half a dozen other games, but Goemon games would be most welcome. Though I guess you mean the first one, and I think the second one is too often overlooked.

By the way, was Goemon 64 II the first 4-players platformer?

Definitely interested to see this for the upscaling potential. N64's low res makes it hard to go back to, especially on HD TVs. Shouldn't be a problem to get Microsoft to play ball. It's really the one third party they would need on this thing.

I wonder about the controller situation though. They simplified things with the SNES Classic by offering two in the box (presumably) so they don't have to have single-controller SKUs. I don't think they are going to pack these with 4 N64 controllers, so they will have to sell them separately. That, and the fact that these are bigger/more complex, and it makes me wonder what the price point on them will be. And hopefully supply won't be an issue on them...

(Also I hope they come in multiple colours.)

Is it really so impossible that Nintendo does a deal with Microsoft/Rare to include their titles on a potential N64 Mini or N64 VC?

They brought Minecraft to Switch, why not bring their old Rare titles to N64 Mini for some free money? $5-10 of every Mini sold or however much per every VC title sold on Switch would add up fast and they'd have to do essentially zero work.

I have absolutely no interest in an N64 Mini without Rare's games, they propped that system up for years. Also no Pokemon Stadium 1/2 (lack of Transfer Pack support), and I doubt they'd give us a translated F-Zero X Expansion Kit as the headline game.

If this is really what they're doing in lieu of VC now...

Well, at least i still have an N64 to buy games legit if i want to.

If Nintendo was ok with cross play Minecraft and Rocket League maybe they can come together with Microsoft as well on some Rare games, it's basically like licensing other SNES games.

I do wonder if they can improve the N64 to HD like NES and SNES.

Watch them pull another StarFox 2 and be like "Includes finished never released Super Mario 64-2!"

Actually, I could see them putting Animal Crossing on it. That came out for N64 in Japan but not the US, right? Watch as Nintendo releases Animal Crossing for mobile and N64 Classic Mini but Switch is left with nothing.

Mischief Makers, Nintendo. Let's go.

Interesting news!

Shake shake!

I just really wish they'd clarify their position on this. Like, if they're abandoning VC, just tell us, y'know? Why beat around the bush for so long? Are they just hoping they'll get a few more Switch sales off of people expecting/hoping for VC before they say it's not coming? I mean, it just seems like the writing's on the wall here (NES aside, I guess), but Nintendo won't say a thing. Frustrating time to be a Switch owner who likes/wants VC, I'll tell ya.

I'm on Team no N64 mini.

I'd rather they just bring N64 games to switch.

If an N64 Classic Edition was to exist though I would expect 16 games, 2 controllers (up to 4 supported) and it would cost at least $100.
not like you'll find one to buy for that price.

N64 games on VC are like $10/ea. and as far as the games go there's;
Ocarina of Time
Majoras Mask
Mario 64
Mario Kart
Star Fox 64
Mario Party 2
Mario Golf
Smash Bros.
Mario Tennis
Donkey Kong 64
Paper Mario
Kirby 64
Harvest Moon 64
Yoshi's Story
1080 Snowboarding
Pokemon Snap/Pokemon Stadium

Though I wouldn't be surprised if Majora's mask didn't make the cut.

EDIT: I guess there's 20 N64 Games for Wii U so you can take that list and knock a few off and you'll be at 16 no problem.

I don't think it's far fetched that 2017 Microsoft would be willing to strike a deal with Nintendo to get Rare's stuff on there.

Yeah and these Mini/Classic consoles aren't competing with Xbox or traditional consoles. It should be like getting the deals to include any other 3rd party game, which Nintendo has done on the previous two Minis.

I wouldn't be surprised if the limited production run off these system is at least partially related to game licensing deals that Nintendo struck with third parties. It must be much easier to license something for a short and definite time period.

I always read this thing about the n64 sticks but i don't get it. My 20+ years controller are all working fine, were they supposed to be snapped in half by now?

Like half of those aren't going to be feasible due to licensing issues. Which is a shame.

No Goemon, no buy. Best game on N64 and top 10 soundtrack all time.

I'm surprised to hear this love for Goemon. I had this game when I was a kid and I loved it but when remembering it I always thought maybe it wasn't such a great game and I just loved it cuz I was a kid.

Turns out I had great taste.

Soothsayer
N64 Classic Mini is gonna have that Super Mario 64 co-op mode with Luigi that never got implemented as it's "Starfox 2", I'd bet.

Maturity, bitches.
While four players is what the N64 is known for, since I'll likely end up getting one for the single player, I kind of hope there'd be a cheaper option with only one controller.

GC Mini 2019 lets go
Funnily, my mother keeps asking me when they'll come out with one of those. She's rather smitten with these mini systems even if she's not really into games.

No way they'll ship it with 4 controllers. Too much cost for too occasional use. 2 at best, imo.

I'm not (really) hating on the N64 library here, but what would even be on this?
Mario 64
Both Zeldas
DK64
Wave Race 64
Smash Bros
Mario Kart 64
Star Fox 64
Up to 3 Mario Party games
Kirby 64
Yoshi
Pokémon (either Snap, or Stadium 2 if you could connect it to the 3DS VC)
F-Zero X

What good 3rd party stuff would they be able to get? The Rare games would be out of reach, right?
Paper Mario
^ You forgot this

Blast Corps
Resident Evil 2
Doom 64
San Francisco Rush
Bomberman 64
Ogre Battle 64
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer
Wipeout 64
Bust A Move 99
Harvest Moon 64
Rayman 2
Gauntlet Legends
Cruis'n World

Frankly, I'm guessing they'll work out how to get the license from Microsoft for the Rare games. Perfect Dark, Diddy Kong Racing, Killer Instinct, Banjo Kazooie, Golden Eye, can probably be safely counted on.

OMG that looks so much better. It has two handles instead of three, for a kickoff.
