NPD Sales Results for July 2017

I guess I haven't been paying that much attention to NPD charts lately but I'm actually a bit surprised that Zelda is the #2 best selling game of the year so far. With the lower combined install base I figured it would probably be in the lower part of the top 5 if anything.

Switch software is doing great.

In US? It should around half of that probobly less as it did 330k at retail.

Check the preditions thread.

Ah, okay. Well if the leak's numbers are real, that already scuppers my estimate of Splatoon 2 being closer to 3 mil than 2.

Edit:
It's nowhere near a million in US. Leak gave us 332k figure for Splatoon 2 retail this month.

Yeah, wasn't aware of that when I posted. Don't usually keep up with the prediction threads I admit.

Heh thats true. I'll just have to take solace in the fact that its already Atlus' best selling title ever while selling at full price.

Still hasnt seen any price drops anywhere either.

I saw a copy of P5 last week in local Target, the first time I saw one, next day it was gone. I think Atlus was conservative when printing the game, not entirely a good thing cuz you should keep your product on shelf so people can pick it up.

Congrats to Splatoon and Nintendo, that's fantastic! GTAV is a ride that never ends, goddamn.

Can I be cautiously hopeful that FFXII did mildly well? I'd wanted a non-steelbook version of the game from Amazon the other week, and they were sending out UK copies as they were out of US copies. I've been really surprised how much I'm enjoying revisiting FFXII, it's aged like a fine wine. The facial animation - hnnnngggg. The quality of life additions have been great, too, but I'm still so surprised how well the game holds up in general.

Installed Base, Attach Rates and Tie Ratios matter equally. A title on a platform with a small installed base can still have big sales if the software tie ratio and/or the attach rate of that game is high.

Top games sell what top games sell regardless of installed base in many cases.

"best-selling" sounds like units sold, not revenue

All quotes refer only to consumer spend.

Horizon is considered an RPG?

Yes, it's an action RPG.

It's a little annoying we still haven't received any further leaks, particularly regarding Xbox's numbers.

But aside from the leaks, it's great to see FFXII in the top five. Great game and remaster.

What's the lowest GTA5 has been this year? Seems to always be around the top, just insane at this point

Got home, so decided to look it up myself, possibly fucked it up though.
It's been 6th twice. 3rd every other month. Just crazy.

Do you believe everything you read on the internet?

But the Xbox One isn't in the best place right now. It being close to sub 100K already isn't a good sign when Xbox One X is still a fair bit away, and that is a $500 device.

Mat does your data infer there is increased production for switch or do you think it was only a case of Splatoon launching and we haven't truly seen that increase yet?

Also, as for Mario x Rabbids, do you see that as a mid-tier production value? I would love to hear how you think it would do in the market. As for me, having Mario is a giant plus, but the game itself is in a genre yet to find a large enough player base(except for maybe XCOM). EDIT: I see you already slightly answered this part

I noticed Fate/Extella on Switch is #9 in the Switch chart and that would only have had a few days of tracking as it came out on July 25th, hopefully it did well.

Do we ever get leaks anymore? I wonder what the most recent LTD is for Super Bomberman R and Disgaea 5 Complete are for Switch for example. D5C reached 100k WW as of June 30th and SBR was at 500k WW as of the end of March.

Kinda strange say that a game is the best seller of the month if there's other game that sold more units.

Go take a bunch of units to the bank and see what they say.

A dollar is a dollar. Same value no matter what.

Units do not have the same value. A game can go on sale for $5 and sell 100 units. Is that actually a better seller than a game that costs $50 and sells 75 units?

It does not. I've no idea.

What leak?

Go Splatoon!! Never played the first and am addicted to this one a getting better with each play.

That's kind of guaranteed I think, or it will be the best selling in the franchise (if it reviews decently). WiiU's sales was dragging down a lot of potential sales for so much software.

How big of a bump do you think the game will get due to being on the switch? I don't know how much the previous two entries sold. If the leak for Splatoon 2 is true and it sold 330k, hopefully Xenoblade 2 can reach the 300k mark?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Got damn. GTA V has to have some of the strongest legs in all of video gaming.

Splatoon is now for sure a potential IP that will last for decades just like Zelda and Mario.

Hopefully Nintendo takes more creative risks now not all will pay off or sell multimillions and some may even flop. But when you got a new long lasting IP after those then it certainly pays off.

Heck i was a skeptic when i saw Splatoon 1 at first and even skipped the game for years. But man after playing that Splatoon 2 testfire and finally got 1. I knew it was something special made by passionate devs. Why i ever thought it was just for kiddies is beyond me must have been those edgy late teen years.

The leak never said anything about XB1 being below 100k... people jumped conclusion that he leaked the TOP3 hardware but he never said that.

Then why not leak XB1 numbers?

Edit: Anyway soon enough we will get an average of what XB1 sold in the Predictions thread so it doesn't matter.

“Nintendo’s Splatoon 2 was the best-selling title of the month,” said Piscatella. “Three of the month’s top seven best-selling games are published by Nintendo. Nintendo was also the best-selling software publisher in July.”

Well, I believe the common sense is understand "best-selling title" as the game that sold more units.

we're just all used to "best selling" meaning a certain thing that has now changed. best selling meaning the most sales and a sale meaning a single purchase of a game. now it's all about the dollars.
