New previews of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

Do we know how many chapter this has? I remember reading
04
from the leaked documents, but maybe they added more afterwards?

Yes. The first is about 2 hours long but I've heard the others are much longer, and there is some areas that open up when beating the chapter, so doing that probably brings the first to 2.5 hours.

How's the depth to this? Do I get to build a team how I want, chose items and gear to approach a level how I feel I want to? I've been a bit burnt with Arms and Splatoon 2 so I've cancelled my preorder on this to hear some feedback.

You guys are thinking of worlds, of which there are 4. It's been previously said there are 9 chapters in total.

Mario RPGs getting music by the Kingdom Hearts composer and now the Banjo Kazooie composer is pretty neat.

The previews have been pretty great so far, wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being the best Mario RPG to date...though it wouldn't be too hard to pass the latest entries.

It's the other way around - Yoko Shimomura composed the music for the first Mario RPG and that was way before Kingdom Hearts was developed.

anybody finished world 3 or the game yet?

Edit: Well, someone who can reveal the game length I mean.
It's either this, or I can get both Yakuza 0 + Yakuza Kiwami.

Bear in mind I still haven't finished World 1 yet (I'm up to 1-8) but from what I've played so far:

- You pick 3 characters to make up your team. For a long time you only have 3 characters anyway but I've just picked up my fourth so finally have a choice to make on that side. I have no idea if your team ever expands past 3 in terms of number.

- There are some minor differences in characters base stats but they're not huge. E.g all 4 characters have the same range of movement and jumping, and 3 of the 4 have very similar HP. One character does slightly higher damage per slide attack than the others. One character has significantly lower HP than the others as he's more of a sniper class.

- Each character has their own special power which has a cooldown meter. These range from firing when an enemy moves in your line of sight to a shield that reduces damage for one turn.

- All characters have primary and secondary weapons. The secondary weapons can be things like short range melee hammers or sentries. Primary weapons are all character-specific guns with varying attributes. Some weapons are better against certain enemy types. Some weapons do more than just damage, e.g one gun gives you a 30% chance of burning the enemy with fire. This causes burn damage but also causes the enemy to run around, exposing themselves from cover.

- All characters have their own skill tree. I'd say about half of it is shared and half is character specific. It dies what you'd expect - increases range of movement, reduces cooldown, allows you to slide into two enemies in a row etc.

So there's certainly plenty of options. That said, however, I don't know if it's really the type of game where you'll agonise over which character and weapon to take into battle. At least, so far. Mainly because there have only been two different types of regular enemies so far (excluding bosses) - the standard rabbid enemy (can't remember the name) and the hopper. So when there's only two enemy types you don't really feel the need to keep switching up your team or loadout.

Now don't get me wrong, the game has been tons of fun so far and they do a really good job of making each battle feel unique. I'm sure more enemy types will be introduced later on and maybe players will feel the need to mess around with their loadout more. Bear in mind I've only just unlocked the skill tree. I played for hours yesterday and still haven't finished World 1. It feels like a reasonably meaty game and I can only comment on a small percentage of it so far.

My initial feeling is just more that it's about adapting to each map's layout and core gimmick rather than obsessing about your team make-up.

I'm more concern the fact that I'm only reading pure positive impression so far. From impression I've read so far, it sounds like a perfect 10/10 game since nobody mentioned a single negative stuff.

People have said they don't like the camera not being able to be moved vertically.

This is not what I meant by cons of a game...
I'm looking for impression that will add or minus a point from review score, gameplay flaws.
Not game drops 3fps in scene 2 or the game is not 1080p.

Some minor annoyances people may have: Mario has to be in your party, you have to have a Rabbid in your party, and you are limited to just three characters in your party. The camera may obstruct the path to a collectible during exploration. There are other things that aren't perfect, but it is too late and I'm too tired to remember.

Spoilery question: are there more playable characters than the eight we know? Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and their Rabbid equivalents?

Camera is a con. Not my fault you don't now that. No game is a perfect 10/10 either.

Hmm, I can't say that I'm a fan of rabbids but after watching trailers of the game, I really like them now so that's not a problem for me.
I think the main question I'm trying to ask is (aside from all of these minor flaws), is this a game that I will put 50 hours in?
But I understand that is on the boundary of embargo breaking.

I don't think this is a concern. I played for 12 hours yesterday and hadn't even finished the second world or tackled many of the challenge states that are on offer. I think there's plenty to do.

That sounds very promising. My concern actually came from a youtube channel finishing 2 worlds in around 6 hours. I believe he ignored every challenges, but he wasn't speed running it either.

It is tough to say. I mean, do you plan on playing to get Perfect grades on each battle, find collectibles, and do the challenges? Or will you just complete a battle and accept whatever grade you may earn, not search the environments all that much, and ignore challenges once a world is complete?

I only go for Perfect on battles - meaning I don't lose a character and I finish the battle in a certain amount of turns. Admittedly, this means I have to restart battles once I lose a character in combat, so my playtime would be longer than a person who accepts a Good grade rating.

It's either this, or I can get both Yakuza 0 + Yakuza Kiwami.

I mean, the internal press slides said 20 hours, which would mean even Kiwami would probably last you longer by itself.

But then again we have someone on this page saying they're 12 hours in and not halfway through world-wise, so...

I'd be fine with it being shorter personally; something fun that doesn't overstay its welcome is fine with me.

Since it's a handheld game, I will most likely try to find everything and do every challenges.
I love trial and error type of game, where I need to plan my approach and not just mindlessly attack without any real strategy.
I enjoyed completing Shovel Knight a lot with every collectible, but something like BOTW with 900+ collectibles, that's not my cup of tea. What I'm trying to say is, if it's in the area of possible, I will definitely try to achieve it. Anyway, to get perfect combat, there's a different condition for every battle? If it's like a listed objective, then I will definitely try to achieve it.

When you have Yakuza and this game on the line, it's a hard decision to make.

The 20 hours is a very loose information unfortunately.
I do agree on your statement for certain games. I enjoyed Uncharted Lost Legacy a lot and it's an 8 hours game, longer would've been a drag. But this is a strategy game, I'm expecting a longer game like 30-50 hours (including challenge mode).

Perfect consists of completing the battle in x amount of turns. As you'll see in some of the gameplay posted, end of the battle screen shows 'Turns 4/5' - meaning you have 5 turns to beat that battle and still earn a Perfect. Going over that will drop you to Good. Losing a character in battle automatically drops you to Good.

Yakuza is a great game. I do not envy the decision you have to make.

Yea I really enjoy stuff like that. Is there a checklist/challenges to complete or a stat screen in game?

Eh...I really hope it has more enemy variety. Several hours in and only a couple of types is not a good look

Yeah, it shows you on a world map how many treasure chests, challenges you are missing. You can also replay battles in another section of the hub world, in case you didn't get a gold/perfect ranking.

Why are people alwayss so obsessed with gamelength. Is that really the most important aspect that make u decide to buy or not?

Yes it is. As pointed out by my previous post, I have a personal expectation checklist.
For a game like this, strategy + handheld, I want it to be a very lengthy experience.
Story, action adventure, I'm absolutely fine with Uncharted Lost Legacy length, which is 8 hours only.

That sounds like what I want! Thanks.

I could be wrong but I think for a lot of people there is so much to play at the moment across all the platforms that many are trying to decide on what to buy/start. Knowing the length may help in what order to buy or play these games.

How would that be a negative?
Lol

BTW I said I don't like camera horizontal only movement in exploration, I have experienced some micro freeze and the game doesn't seem THAT long for he first run

That said, game play, graphic, OST and fun are all there

Games are expensive and people want to know they'll get their money's worth. To some length per dollar is important.

It matters to some when its a gamble, the game is weird and that is putting it midly its not suprising some want to know the length to help justify a purhcase.

How tough is this game? Since your health doesn't get restore after a fight.

It does get a little challenging. Some characters can heal themselves and others in a fight. There are also mushrooms scattered about that heal your team up by around 70hp. Usually you only have to manage around 2-3 battles before you get fully healed up for the next chapter/sets of battles.

I got this early yesterday to my surprise. I'm on 1-7 so far and it's been a joy to play. To have an xcom like game on switch this early into its life is brilliant, and was such a surprise that the pairing of Mario and Rabbids works so well. The Ubisoft and Nintendo partnership should be praised and really hope this game sells well as I want more at the end of this ride!

I hadn't done any real research on the game and had only watched a few videos, so wasn't expecting skill trees and weapon upgrades with unique modifiers.

The art style and music are both brilliant. Some people comment on the image being a bit soft and whilst it is, this is not in anyway close to the horrible softness of Snake Pass.
I think it's the implementation of depth of field and maybe a little fxaa. The graphics are very charming and I'm enjoying the traversal between battles, finding collectables.

I just hope it carries on like this.

Has anyone in the UK received their collector's edition yet? Does the box have that horrible Australia rating on the cover?
