Since I dont think there has been an update in a while, I will say that if a meetup does happen, it should be at around sometime next week. I am in the process of purchasing tickets for the Zelda orchestra and will be in Zurich on the first. If anything related even remotely to a meetup is happening it should be then.

Oh hey, missed this. I was at the Zelda concert with my son, it was a bit overwhelming though, too many scary cosplayers all in love with Twilight Princess / Hyrule Warriors.

A guy sat beside us in the lobby and got a copy of Warhammer Chaos out of his bag and started reading passages from it to himself while underlining with his fingers and laughing. At that point I did consider running away.

I was at the concert last year and it was pretty great :).

I'm refering to my last post in this thread:
I actually wouldn't mind to have a meetup, or just having someone to go for a drink if someone is interested.
I have the feeling that I really need someone to talk and sharing experiences to get tips and advices. I'm quite confused and uncertain which direction to take for my professional life / what opprtunities there are.
Maybe this will help me a bit and it's always great to meet new people :)

Welp, I have been in this small valley town for long enough. I'm looking now for a place around zurich, or in the city itself. Move in date right now is open between january and the end of march, so if ya'll hear of anything interesting, send a peep my way!

Oh I wouldn't be against a meetup.

Moved to Switzerland around a year ago and don't know a lot of people. My Swiss is pretty good though (Swiss parents).

Lots of overpriced things we could do (sorry, still kinda getting used to the prices here)

I could come if the meetup is in Zürich. But not between the 5th to the 16th of December, I'm out of the country then.

Anyone else following the vote today (or went and voted)?

I know quite a few people who will be upset that the Atomausstiegsinitiative isn't passing...

Why would they be upset?
Granted, I haven't been following the vote, but the brochure I got by mail made me think that the ones that are for don't have any real plans as to how to replace the nuclear energy.

I'm happy with the results.

we'll have enough trouble transitioning to renewable without having to replace our AKW as quickly as possible.

Why would they be upset?

Jep, which was my biggest problem with the initiative.

I've just noticed, especially among my peers and especially since Fukushima, there has been a pretty vocal anti-nuclear movement here in Switzerland. I guess since several people I know voted Ja that I expected it to pass. But I agree with all of the people here... I'm glad it didn't. It's too short-sighted. I'm all for phasing out nuclear power but let's please first have a viable alternative. Otherwise we will just end up having to buy energy from neighbouring countries...

The anti-nuclear sentiment is pretty strong in Switzerland. It was stronger 10 years ago but people are still very sceptical towards it.

I'm glad it didn't come to pass. I too found the initiative short-sighted (i.e. the energy-gap requiring to buy shortages from neighbouring countries) with a lack of realistic alternatives in place.

However, I still hope that photovoltaics will be pushed more over the coming years and that the energy strategy 2050 will be implemented effectively.

Voted of course but I completely missed the results (I was working and then watching Warcraft at a friend's place... boring movie).

I am very happy though, especially with the marriage thing.

The marriage makes me super happy, a whopping 80% too. I think we might be ready for gay marriage on a national level. If that is something the swiss lgtb community even cares about.

Yeah, it feels like it's only a matter of time.

Which is probably why we got 2 desperate attempts in short succession to set the traditional definition of marriage in stone.

Alright, same deal. Tomorrow (friday) come to the Big Ben pub in hardbrücke for a round. I got things to celebrate. Or dont. Either way, its drinks for me.

I wanted to go come this time since I planned to play badminton in hardbrücke afterwards at 19:00 with a friend.
But since yesterday I feel sick. Maybe I will feel better this afternoon.

I'll be there from 5pm or so onwards. either way, get better!

I have a dinner tonight at the University in Zurich, so maybe I can join a bit later in the evening.

I live a ways away so Ill probably catch the 9pm train out of there, but anytime before that is alright.

Hmmm maybe I'll come by.

Oh man, we just had a patient leave the hospital a few days ago because he was getting his exit... treatment. This hit me completely off guard.

I laughed.

Looks like today is going to be a good day. Get fucked, all you corporate shills, lobbyists, and so-called "job creators"! :)

Still worried about the naturalization bill though. I fear that our socially regressive side is going to eke out another close win there :-/

I am flying to Basel and then coach to Zurich for a few days. Any tips?

There's also the town-festival Badenfahrt in Baden (15 minutes away from Zurich) until sunday. I wasn't there yet but heard it should be great. Happens only once in 10 years.

And this week should be quite warm so I also recommend to go swimming in the lake or rivers. There are some nice places in swimming areas. Or going on a short trip with a ship.

And also the zurich openair like the poster above said.

Depends, what are you looking for? Drinks? Restaurants? Fun?
How much did you estimate to spend?
Zürich Open Air starts tomorrow, this weekend there is also Dorflifäscht in Niederdorf in Züri.

Well my plan was to fly into Basel. Stay in a hostel over night if i can't woo a woman with my good looks, wit and charm ( I am totally renting a hostel. Walk around Basel the next day and then fuck off to Zurich where I will hang out with a friend of mine for a couple days. Book a hostel again. Go clubbing on Friday, Go clubbing on Saturday and from the club take a coach to Basel, nap at the airport and sleep on the plane.

Haha, nope!

(At least in Basel you can cross the border easily and go into Germany for food.)

The words "cheap" and "Switzerland" or anything related to it never appear in the same sentence. It is known.
