Sure and I hope Nintendo allows hard drive support in the future, but it's still a far cry from a truly viable solution for a hybrid device.
I just want yall to be happy : )

Luckily Nintendo graduated from 8GB. 8GB is awful for a home console (WiiU)..It does make the internal storage on the switch look really bad though (just like the 500GB on PS4s & Ones I guess)
Nintendo did do this with Xenxoblade X. The texture packs and the like were separate downloads because it couldn't all fit on the disc. I expect something similar for XBC 2.
Although it's a bit annoying, It's nothing different than what we get with the standalone boxes these days anyway.
I wouldn't call a 1 time Download halfway to always online, that's a bit of a stretch there.
A very expensive solution for those developersI'd imagine that Nintendo will try to get a 64GB cartridge made available to developers in the future to alleviate the issue, or at least I hope they do.
Im guessing folks own more than one game. Switch doesn't have enough memory for current gaming standards and requiring switch owners to have to buy extra memory on top of games because of that in 2017 is questionable at best. For a home console.
32GB cards are available now. DQHI&II shipped on one.
Didn't Square Enix already use a larger cart for DQH 1+2?
So 2K are just a bunch of cheap bastards then.
This had better not be the standard moving forward.

Well, I knew it was going to be sooner or later that I would have to buy a MicroSD. May as well be now. I'm still getting physical but with that download, I'll need to expand my memory. Luckily it seems I can get a 64GB card for about $25 bucks.
I've got a 200GB card in my Switch. That'll last me for a while but I think I'll probably need to upgrade in a few years.
That'll probably be the 400 GB when it drops down a couple bucks from the current price.
Why is it that that all my ps4 games are 40GB +
Yet Nintendo manages to have big games like splatoon, Mario kart, heck even breath of the wild with barely any GB. Under 15 GB usually
How does that work?
An NBA game is not bigger in scale than breath of the wild, is it?
You're going to burn through that pretty quickly if you buy third party games. Nintendo has done a fantastic job at keeping game sizes very low but third parties aren't going to try like that. They've already got carte blanche when it comes to space on PS4 and Xbone. And now that this is an option, I expect a lot of developers will aim for the smallest cart possible and lean on the SD card option. Add patches into the mix and we're in for a ride.

That's dissapointing. We had the scare with the Lego city game, but I guess this one is for real.
Hope it doesn't become the norm going forward.
Because some gaffers and other switch owners play it primarily in a way that Nintendo engineered it means they should have a solution for those customers.
I'm pointing out how Nintendo doesn't have a solution for people who need more storage other than buy more storage that may need to be expanded again with your next games purchase.
Which is a major problem.
That bandage is better than what's in the OP.
The Digital Download Is Roughly 25GB
When I spoke to Visual Concepts, they didn't have a final file size nailed down yet, but they expect it to come in around 25GB. With the constant updates the game gets over the course of the NBA season, you should budget a lot more storage space, however.
Expect Regular Game Updates
Nintendo may have an inferior network service to Sony and Microsoft, but that isn't preventing NBA 2K18 from issuing regular game updates. Visual Concepts says the game will receive regular updates day and date with the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions. This means whenever they push new MyTeam cards, roster updates, gameplay changes, and the like, Switch owners won't be left on the outside looking in. If other publishers are able to follow suit, this could prove a watershed moment for Nintendo's post-launch support.
Retail Copy Details
The retail version of NBA 2K18 does not release day and date with the digital version on September 19. If you want the cartridge, you have to wait until October 17.
Wait , Vita games did that? I'm mostly digital on mine.
what game does that?
No.. devs seem to opt for cheaper cartridges as this game did.Switch has 32GB game cards.
Switch has 25GB of usable internal storage.
So the only way you can ever 100% NEED an SD card if if the game is over 57GB.
Ja?
Like Apple!I like how Nintendo products need like 2 to 3 extra costs for everything.
This. I'd even go as far as suggesting R&Ding 128GB carts. Surely not even a multiplat would exceed that size.I'd imagine that Nintendo will try to get a 64GB cartridge made available to developers in the future to alleviate the issue, or at least I hope they do.
Yeah, I think this sounded really clever in your head.I like how Nintendo products need like 2 to 3 extra costs for everything.
Why are they using the DIGITAL DOWNLOAD Version of NBA 2k18 as evidence of all this? The reason it says that in the box is because it's a code in the box
Edit - just read the full article, will be interesting to see what games require a cart plus download solution.
I doubt it. Zelda is the only Nintendo game bigger than 10 GB, and it's really only 13 GB. Maybe thanks to their handheld experience, but they know how to properly compress games.

Great, I hope we will know which games use that before the release cause I won't support this and won't buy any game that use this.
We'd need more clarification. As you mentioned, IGN are citing the digital download version box, nothing in the article has been confirmed about the physical version.
As I pointed out in my post Game Informer interviewed the developers and they want to get the game down to 25GB in size, and they confirm the physical release date but didn't say if the physical version is the same size as the digital download.
Either we have to wait for the physical release or if we could get clarification from someone at 2K.
At least microSD cards are reasonably cheap, unlike those bs proprietary memory cards for the PSVita
