Florida Gov. Declares State Of Emergency Over Hurricane Irma (Up: clean-up begins)

Edit: Wow., what a HORRIBLE waste of a post at the top of a page. Sorry all!

1) The tape thing should never be used with any expectation of safety or reducing damage.
2) The theory is, if bits get smashed, some structural integrity could hold, which could mean smaller shattered pieces and less total volume of glass blasted in.

In other words, if someone is stupid enough to be in said location with exposed windows it might marginally make it slightly less lightly a big piece of glass might kill them and instead got sliced up by smaller, sharper pieces! No amount or pattern of tape is going to actually save a window from breaking, though. Throwing up wooden boards with gaps in them will have the same effect. Only complete shutters or barrier coverage should be counted on, and even then I still wouldn't put my dumb ass close to any windows.

The tape thing will not save you or the window. The window is going to break anyway and need to be replaced regardless, and your dumb ass should be nowhere near it regardless.

Woke and it's drizzling in Orlando but not as windy as last night, I remember Frances almost knocking me down before it rained.

This is nothing.

NBC journalists the only ones near homeless man as there's a lockdown and no one is coming to help him, including the journalists.

Who said the Seinfeld finale was bad?

Is Irma right on Key west? Seeing all these videos of Key West not being 10 feet under water makes me a little bit more optimistic about Bradenton.

Police: Please don't shoot at hurricane

Florida authorities have issued another stern warning about Hurricane Irma: Shooting bullets into the storm won't help keep you safe.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office tweeted late Saturday: "DO NOT shoot weapons @ (hashtag) Irma. You won't make it turn around (and) it will have very dangerous side effects."

The sheriff's office, which is in the Tampa Bay-area, was responding to a Facebook event page created two Florida men inviting people to shoot at Irma.

People do this?

Guess I shouldn't be surprised...

Editing out my comment. After looking I'm not sure if it is right or not. Do not want to spread misinformation if it isn't.

I think it may be dependent on which side of the cyclonic wind movement is hitting a specific area in relation to where the landmass is?

Storm just shifted north hours ago. They might get lucky that there hasn't been enough time / movement to bunch up water in front of it.

Stupid sister in law stayed behind because it was too hard to travel with all of her pets. Yeah let me jeopardize the life of my entire family for some animals...smh

I'm sorry, I have a dog and my kids love the dog ... but under NO circumstances would I put my family in danger for any animal. I just can't understand the mindset of people who do things like that.

Many people consider their pets part of the family.
