"3D" as in 3D gameplay.

It's surprisingly bad for being so late. Not sure if the demo build is super old and the final one is at a decent resolution, but we haven't heard either way.
I would've bought it if it didn't look so terrible on both handheld and docked modes

and it's especially bad since it's being compared to Mario Kart and a lesser extent Zelda. So you're like, the eff happened with this one??

I believe it got a 20% increase in pixel count on docked mode and its resolution is less than the Wii u version in handheld mode without new effects or anything.
Mario was Wii U's prettiest game and it runs at double the resolution with extra processing power being used to boost performance and add double items.
I'm usually not a stickler for these things, but it's hard to excuse such a low effort.

Capcom is a shell of its former self. They bet on the Switch being unsuccessful and development resources as tight as they are were allocated accordingly. Switch suddenly proving to be a hot commodity does not mean much in the short term for a company that does not have the ability to shift with any ease.

Its possible more ports may start showing up for projects that were greenlighted after switch proved itself but I do not expect any sort of real Capcom support until 2019 the earliest.

Yeah I mean there's this stigma going around that only "salty Nintendo fans" hate Capcom mainly for Monster Hunter World not releasing on Switch, but me with my 0% experience in any sort of business will judge them to be a terribly handled company. If the GameCube/PS2 was Capcom at their pinnacle (and it was undoubtedly) then there fall to now has been slow but massive. There's like nothing I can see on the horizon that will lead to some sort of transformation either, MHW should do well, very well even, but the MH has been doing very well for a while now, a boost in sales per each game sold is one thing but then where do they go from there? New IP? More sequels that inevitably annoy fans in some capacity? Team up with Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo for yet another underperforming game?

They just really do keep making a lot of strange choices that in hindsight could've been handled so much better. Like why in the timeframe that Danganronpa puts out game after game on store shelves is it when Ace Attorney is downloadable only with some games not even being localised at all?

Their seemingly mishandling of their major franchises like Street Fighter, Dead Rising, DMC keep the attention away from their stupidity for their smaller games.

Mega Man's not getting new games, Okami is just getting re-released, Ghost Trick Phantom Detective was one of the most mishandled quality games I've ever seen...

It's just one thing after another...

Let's hope TGS is good for them aye? :)

Road to TGS.™

Notes:
- The list will include all games announced from August 1st until the end of TGS, except mobile will be focused on games from traditional publishers, or really notable non-traditional publisher games.
- The list will include the title, genre, publisher, developer (if known), release window (if known), and any pertinent notes.
- I won't be including things until they at least have one platform announced. Similarly, games announced prior to this window with no platforms count as a new announcement. Beyond that, I'm being a bit more generous with inclusions instead of waiting until the full details show up unless we just clearly don't know enough to list it.
- This will be the Switch's first Road to TGS.

You're missing Dragon Quest Builders for Switch, unless it's excluded by the rules.

I think there was also a Shogi game announced for switch. Not that its particularly notable.

I do hope we get lots of good news for Switch/PS4 being the future this TGS.

Also just hope we see lots of Switch support.

And on a personal level hope we see certain games or unlooked for games that make me excited :p.

Is 15 supposed to be a repeat of DQXI 3DS? Is one of those supposed to be the PS4 version? Or is it just another 3DS SKU of the game?

So, unless I've misunderstood, Samus Returns was a world wide release so should be in next week's release, correct? I know the series has never been huge in Japan, but I'm really interested in seeing how it does.

[PS4] Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age - 7

what happened here?

Could be individual store's case and not a full representation? 3DS SKU has been going down just as steadily as the PS4 version, idk what would cause it to rise.

Release in Japan

this will never stop being mind blowing.

switch owners, all those that stood in lines, have won lotteries, who have been buying software as it comes, will not have the option to play this game.

but all the dozens of X1 owners will!

HA! take that Nintendo,

Xbox One version of Okami in Japan is digital only, Capcom isn't releasing retail version of their games for the system in Japan anymore.

Wii port of the original sold rather poorly anyway, despite the Zelda fanbase and all, people really overblow how many sales Capcom is "losing" regarding it.

Japan is not the only territory where the game is being released, you must know that.

The game will probably not be a big seller so it's likely not worth arguing too much about missed sales. Likely would've been the best selling version if released at the right time, but that's mostly discussing "what ifs" that aren't happening.

Re: Road to TGS- So trying to get more specific on what seems to be the dominant focus, if you make your best guess at third party retail releases, you come out with this comparison:

PS4- 24
Switch- 15

Even that doesn't tell the entire story- some really late Switch ports and 5-6 PS4 visual novels so its not like these are all impactful releases.

Sold well in the west though, either on a par or more than it did on ps2 i believe

I think the easy breakdown would be this.

Games likely to sell 200K+:
- Yo-Kai Watch Busters 2 - If this doesn't move 200K, Level-5 might as well throw in the towel.
- Dragon Quest Builders 2 - It'd take a gigantic drop to not do 200K.
- Fist of the North Star Yakuza - I feel between both audiences, their reinforcing overlap, and the relative strength of both properties, this should at least be appealing enough to move 200K.

Games that could maybe sell 200K+:
- Persona Q2 - Last game did 270K. Plausible super late-gen 3DS sales decline.
- Yakuza Kiwami 2 - Combining PS4 and PS3 for Kiwami was 260K, and now there's only the PS4, and the series trajectory has not been favorable.
- Dragon Quest Builders Switch Port - It's a very late port, but all the versions did pretty well, and it is a Nintendo audience.
- Style Savvy - This was very borderline last time at 230K, and is dealing with strong 3DS rot.
- Attack On Titan 2 - If this has normal Koei Tecmo decline, it will not even get close. Was 280K last entry.
- Sword Art Online: Final Bullet - The previous games mostly moved over 200K, but the last one didn't. This is also PS4 only. It is by a new developer this time.

Games I excluded people might disagree with:
- Kirby: Battle Royale - Kirby: Fighters Z only did 130K.
- Earth Defense Force - There's only one entry to break this mark, and 4.1 was not even remotely close.
- Persona Dancing - The last one only did 125K.

We're through 7 of the 8 weeks of Japanese game announcement season* in a year where both the PS4 and Switch are firing on all cylinders. So far we've got three games that should sell 200K+, and then six maybes, many of we should be pretty skeptical of. If we just focus in on the PS4 and Switch, we can lower those numbers to 2 very likely candidates and 4 maybes.

Of course, the final week is the Sony conference, but we'll see if things reverse dramatically or not.

Now, we can debate if this is actually a result of the lowering impact of Japanese games these days, or if the biggest titles are now announced outside this window at events like E3, Nintendo Direct, and the PlayStation Experience instead, but TGS seems to becoming a pretty low-key event.

* TGS itself doesn't tend to have a lot of announcements, especially for non-mobile games.

Right- barring some big stuff at Sony's PC in a few days, pretty lackluster announcements.

EDIT- as far as looking at the overall space, I'd argue you have one platform in its prime, so to speak (PS4), one emerging (Switch) and 2 on their way out (Vita, 3DS). So in that context, this year isn't that surprising.

I think my biggest concern is that the PS4 and Switch have to replace the impact of the 3DS + Vita + PS3 to not see the market decline even further overall, which I'm becoming increasingly skeptical of.

This year itself should be up, but how far into the 1980s in terms of game revenue are we going to go if they don't pick up to at least that level?

Yeah. It will be interesting to see in the next year or so. You've seen some PS4/Switch stuff but not as much as I would have suspected, and virtually no 3DS franchises really transitioning.

Square seems to be transitioning. PO is by the BD Square guys and a different outside developer, right? DQ is also transitioning to being a PS4/Switch series.

Atlus is at least transitioning SMT, but is indeed lingering on 3DS for other releases. I hope they'll have Switch games to succeed their other 3DS franchises.

We don't know where Ace Attorney goes next. Is mobile only an okay idea for that franchise at this time? We also don't know if Monster Hunter will transition to Switch or if PS4/Xbox/PC is the sole future of the franchise. I think the common opinion is that it'll come to Switch too, though.

Level-5 is in between successful franchises with nothing (?) currently slated for Switch.

SEGA is putting Sonic on Switch.

I think these are the core 3DS partners. It looks like Square is transitioning, as is SEGA. Atlus is slow, but is at least partially transitioning. Capcom and Level-5 are the problematic elements of the old coalition.

(It's also a mixed bag wrt expanded support for Switch, with some good signs and some bad signs, but that's not an issue of the from-3DS transition).

Can someone please make a Snack World x Yo-kai Watch week to week comparison?

11./09. [3DS] The Snack World: TreJarers <RPG> (Level 5) {2017.08.10} (¥4.800) - 7.829 / 157.523 <80-100%> (-30%)

This is honestly very respectable. Everyone thought it would be a huge bomba but it's holding pretty good. Maybe it will stick around for the holiday season?

I think Persona Q2 will have like half the LTD of the first one.

Ace Attorney going mobile only is plausible, but given how the series plays why not put that on everything.

It's more Little Battlers than Yokai, Inazuma, or Professor Layton though.

Ace Attorney World for Smartphone/PS4/X1/PC,coming soon in 2018,the game is skipping switch because the AA audience "isn't there"

I wonder how Professor Layton and Ace Attorney will transition going forward.
PL is already on mobile as well (mobile first, actually) though it seems to have suffered from early impressions.

Would be nice if they were shorter budget titles that came out yearly.
The last one was 26 hours which is an insane length for a visual novel.
Yearly $20 digital only with 10-15 hours of gameplay sound pretty good.

Don't think consumers are ok paying like for ultra console premiums. I think Lady Layton is $40 on 3DS and $15 on iOS (could be wrong there) while being mostly the same game.

After Street Fighter 4 was a massive success across all the various platforms and releases etc. you had Ono literally crying to the gaming press and anyone who would listen about how Capcom was not willing to spend the funds on a SFV etc. which is where eventually Sony came in and got exclusivity by shouldering a bunch of costs.

Capcom seems to be run incredibly incompetently. They basically pissed away their MH money into Mobile development studios etc. that have yet to show they were worth the MH money

Honestly, I just don't think they have resources, whether from bad bets, bad management, or bad ventures. They had to scale back RE7, MHW is taking four to five years to produce (and now might even be delayed out of this FY), their release schedule is heavily port dependent, and they seem unable to even do late-day ports of "no brainer"s like MMCollection. We puzzle about this daily, but really if the company is already stretched thin and their resources thinner, its not a mystery.

RE7 is a real big fall, especially, where they transitioned *away* from what had made the series extremely popular (7.2, and 6.8 mil respectively from RE5 and RE6), and went for a much more reduced project with a hard-lean on viral marketing ala PT. RE7 is currently at 3.7 mil and not exactly shooting upwards. We talk about MH a lot but really, the decline of RE is already tangible and it has to hurt. It hurts both in sales and in brand strength.

SFV is a right mess from top to bottom, from start to finish. (And its poison for the competitive scene.) The fact that they couldn't themselves get this made, and even with external funding punted out a half-finished tire fire, tells me that whatever resources they have, are stretched to a damn near breaking point.

Their major losses in mobile and constant failures therein and in trying to court a young market has also definitely hurt their resources, mobile especially so. Their smaller franchises are all shriveling up as well.

Honestly, we'd probably be better of for the foreseeable future in isolating Capcom and Level-5 (until they get some projects going out the door) from discussions of the larger market as a whole. Of course, they might be symptomatic of the problems therein.

It does look rather dour if you look at it that way. All of their top IPs are likely on the decline.
RE7 was likely cheaper to make and well received, but it sold poorly (likely due the the removal of co-op?)

Megaman is dead.

Street Fighter took a big plunge and I'm not sure anyone cares anymore.
It's been under $20 for awhile now and I don't think it's passed 2M.

MVC:I is looking a bit rough, and this is the first fighting game that's been handled in house for awhile. Not sure how much the Marvel Bump will help in sales, though.

Monster Hunter is looking to have a steep increase in production costs coming from just reusing PS2 assets and losing some of its appeal (local co-op) in order to try and reach a bigger world wide crowd.

I wonder if RE7: Golden edition and maybe a SFV Complete edition would do anything for those two titles.

I agree that both Capcom and L-5 is probably the exception in the current JP climate.

I mean, both company is failing in both traditional and mobile gaming market with bleak future.

You compared them to Sega,Bandai,Konami, and Square Enix.

Sega while their japanese effort on traditional gaming is weak,
Their mobile effort had been doing quite well and their western PC gaming push had also been racking huge bucks.

Bamco is Bamco. They take anime licence and make it into their big muney maker. Successful both traditional and mobile game market.

Konami very successful on mobile front with pawapro and also had 2 small games bringing huge profit.(Bomberman and Momotaro)

Square Enix while there is some blunder like a huge number of their mobile games flop and close in a year or under that, they have also succeed in launching many successful mobile title like Sino Alice.

Their effort on traditional gaming had also been rewarding like Nier being successful. The only thing they need to solve right now is to make sure their AAA product can come out sooner as KH3 and FF7R seems to be going forever lol.

Compare all this companies with Capcom and L-5, u know how different the success and failure those 2 company had achieved.

I think this is right
Code:
THE SNACK WORLD YO KAI WATCH
97.534 / NEW 53.654 / NEW
25.674 / 123.208 29.102 / 82.756
14.764 / 137.972 18.543 / 101.299
10.098 / 148.070 13.819 / 115.119
 7.079 / 155.149 10.460 / 125.578

The comparison with Yo-kai Watch is meaningless because YW didn't have any Anime airing at that time.
Even now is selling better, 7 months later YW will completely destroy Snack World.

A better comparison that I will try to make from the next thread will be Little Batlers Xperience, that was a 350k seller. That's the only level of success that Snack World can reach.
