DOOM (Holiday 2017) and Wolfenstein II (2018) Announced for Nintendo Switch

Can we finally agree that Nintendo is Doomed?

I wasn't thinking so much as lore, as
he unlockable classic levels, the recreation of the "Dead Simple" map in one of the hell levels, and the Icon of Sin showing up and giving you a bobble head if you hit its weak point. Stuff like that.

Oh I see. I played the originals a long, long time ago and barely remember anything but the
classic maps
were pretty obvious as references. I don't think you'd need to have even played Doom before to get those.

I did not know about the
Icon of Sin
though, I'll have to look out for that on my next playthrough.

It's worth mentioning, Gamspot just posted a new preview of Mario Odyssey today. Should we expect new articles posted throughout the day? Or anything that they had planned to post would have been posted already, like Mario preview?

There already is a thread for the previews.

as we learned on DF Retro the other day, designed for 35fps on 70Hz (2x35) computer monitors

And apparently the Saturn port was supposed to be awesome (reportedly 60FPS), but the rendering method caused affine texture warping which John Carmack hated like the plague, so he made the lead programmer render in software instead.

Gyro is better in my opinion as its more consistant, and you arent aiming at a sensor, you are just moving your controller. Having to push a single button once in a while is worth the sacrifice. (I only have to reset in Splatoon 2 if I get really pissed and throw my hands around after dying lol)

I felt the 1st person aiming in Skyward Sword felt less responsive compared to Twilight Princess, and then I later realised I could still aim without the sensor bar.

Well seeing how terrible PS1 games are with texture warping are I understand him. I also hate texture warping and i’m Glad that N64 or DS never had that kind of problem

Lol them developers trying to get that Switch pie. They can tell this thing is going to grow in something else entirely ...

Its glorious.

I'm not sure that's correct. The PS1's GPU couldn't do floating point operations I think, and that's what causes the wobbly textures.

No. It's right. The PS1 had no Z-Buffer and the GPU was fixed point which technically means it's a terrible 3D accelerator since good 3D GPUs even at the time operated on floating point.

What were they thinking?

I actually like the look of PS1 games, texture warping and all. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

And I still like how the N64 looks with its forced AA (but only on a CRT- it just looks correct that way).
I love the N64, at least as equally as the PS1, but the look of its games don't tug at my heart strings the way PS1 games do... It's weird. I get the same nostalgic feeling from early PC FPS games like Doom, Duke Nukem, Hexen, Heretic, Blood, Dark Forces, and the original Quake, even though I never really played them. I guess I love gritty pixelated 3D graphics.

I don't know if the nda is the same for every region.

In Italy the previews are supposed to be published on the 21st (maybe the nda lifts during the night here)

I don't think Nintendo/Bethesda wanted Mario Odyssey previews and Doom previews coming out the exact same time. It's good to space them out by some hours or so.

From what I've seen of the Digital Foundry report (I have no experience, I've played on PC since launch), it only really has any major dips (I.E., into the low 50's) during Gore Nest explosions.

On higher difficulty level then normal on later levels with upgraded weapons(more splosions) the framerate can visibly dip for a second. Personal experience.

"It's smooth" or "fps looks ok"

The ones invited aren't getting fps counters and all to really tell anyone beyond that.

...they have eyeballs. Anyone who gets paid to write about video games should easily be able to tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps.

Any idea what time? If that's midnight on the 21st that would be 6pm today EDT. 3pm PDT, and the event was held there I believe.
